Based on what you've seen in the Alpha test, are you more hyped for Ashes of Creation, or is this MMO just dead in the water? I know for a lot of you the hype has certainly been soured by all the drama. Also, if you want to support the channel consider getting an upgrade to your gear: tinyurl.com/34ute5c4

Played the alpha 2 a week ago and although not a "game" yet. As the developers have stated many times, this is a TEST. They're primarily focusing on network/performance and stability right now, not gameplay and content. If you or anyone want to check this game out as a GAME, you'd best wait til may when phase 3 comes where their focus goes onto first player experience and overall content. If you want to try the combat and experience a small glimpse of their beautiful world (graphics, lighting and shading is not again fully implemented, so some places will look unpolished, because it is an alpha), then i'd highly recommend it, but dont buy into the alpha expecting anything near a functioning GAME. You'll run around mindlessly killing mobs, which albeit fun, isn't how the game is meant to be played at launch. But having played it over a weekend, the combat is REALLY good. Obviously needs polish and work as everything else, but i'd say i've had more fun in this games combat than many fully released mmos these days.

I'm having a good time despite the bugs. Pvp is really broken at the moment but its otherwise turning into a solid game. I can't wait for more of the lore. The dev's passion for this project is so infectious that I hope they do succeed and all the nay sayers will finally hush.

I think Nixxiom is missing the point and just seeing it as a consumer. The long development time only seems this long as it was crowd funded and developed in an open manner from the start. Any MMO takes years to make, we just dont hear about most of them until they’re much further into development.

The problem is that the fanboys refuse to acknowledge the reality. After years in development, this game is simply disappointing. A two-person indie team could have produced a superior game by now. This title is absolutely not the next "World of Warcraft" killer; in fact, it fails to be a contender at all. The game is mediocre, poorly crafted, and it's bound to fail. While those clinging to hope might not want to hear this, it’s the undeniable truth. The game will release and be popular for 3 to 4 months before declining.

@@somerandy3062 Really? Star Citizen spent $700 million and the back end isn't done. Planetside had TWO games and still couldn't get over 300 people in a battle. Game mechanics, sure. Indie developers are great at game mechanics, but server side takes a whole different skill set. And money. The last server farm (a cluster supercomputer for the NSF and Los Alamos National Labs) that I built, the room alone cost $2 million dollars to build. And we burned 10 grand a month in electricity. And we were paying generator rates. So no, a 2 man indie team would not be where Intrepid is now.

@@somerandy3062 Wow was 1st revealed 3 years before its release but thats not including all the progress on the game before that from a fully funded studio of an already existing IP, if we follow the trend they had for other games like starcraft(much smaller game to make with people who worked on bug fixing the already developed game said they worked on it for 3 years before release) they would have announced it 2-3 years after starting the project. putting wow on 5-6ish year time frame. Ashes of creation is a small just started studio, so a longer time is not ridiculous as the funding started 7 years ago not to mention they changed to unreal 5 causing a delay. Ashes fans do not think its a wow killer, its a VERY different mmo closer to EVE online over Wow. That's youtubers and wow players As someone who is actually testing the game, the game feels good while clearly an actual alpha, Dev team is responsive and already fixing bugs from prior weeks. and as someone who played a few thousand hours in retail wow and a few hundreds in classic I have more faith already in Intrepid to fix bugs than blizzard (fun fact legion require intro instance still bugs most attempts where the npcs just dont contiune and thus you have to try again. its been over 1 year since the bug was 1st reported on forms with proof this does effect people who have already done it and can just skip it but anyone whos never played legion or wants to farm tmog from argus will run into this issue) With the current path this game is following it will be a success in the style of game it was always promised to be (eve has had a player base for years and archeage killed itself with P2W) Where are you getting your sources for poorly crafted and mediocre? did you play or did you watch some youtuber who didnt like how the alpha wasnt a full game a complained and your just repeating what they said?

I've played non-stop all 4 weekends so far, about 100-120 hours in. And i'm still addicted and can't wait to login on Friday and keep diving deep into the Artisan systems. Despite being super bare-bones, it already feels like the RPGs of old and so far really delivers on that promise. I can't wait to see what comes next in Phase 2 on December 20th (also going to be a wipe, fresh start for everyone). The developers have shown nothing but extreme efficiency, open communication and true passion for the game, which is an absolute breath of fresh air in the swamp that has become the past 15 years of MMORPGs. Make of that what you will :)

While World of Warcraft does boast an outstanding community, it's refreshing to see people criticize it openly. We should applaud, encourage, and support AoC and even games like Star Citizen for making the attempt to produce a new game. Drama aside bcus im sure every game developed in all history has had drama. At the very least if a game comes along and challenges blizz's monopoly and steals some subs, that would force blizz's hand to produce more than just re-runs, re-skins, and re-releases. We should be supporting this vs looking for reasons to hate from the sidelines.

If you want a more "Complete Game" I'd suggest buying Alpha 2 phase 3 access (May 1) when more things in the game will be available. While the game in this current phase is very scuffed the biggest thing they needed to nail from the get go even with an incomplete game is the combat. The combat is one of the best hybrid combat system I've experienced. The only other MMO I've played whose combat I've enjoyed this much is Tera.

As long as it's not an obvious flop with an endless list of negatives with very little pros, then I think you should give any game that interests you a chance. I know its a clickbait(ish) style. But it's actually moving along and is obviously not a scam, so why not give it a chance? I say this as a long time viewer of yours and WoW player of nearly 20+ yrs. Don't deny yourself potential fun, if anyone thinks it looks likes its worth the time (or money) then give it a try. I plan on doing so on an official release most likely at this point.

I just want to put it out there that AoC is taking most of it's systems from Archeage, because that's where Steven came from and what he loved - so did I. Most of what they are doing isn't new. The node system is novel in the sense that is combines prior systems into one large one with their own spin and polish on it, hopefully making it more cohesive. The dynamic world alterations tied to nodes are, as far as I know, unique. However, if they succeed in delivering what they have said is their goal, it will be the most feature rich and largest scale sandbox MMO in this setting ever made. It will be mostly Archeage all over again without some of the drawbacks it had. It will be more capable, dynamic and scaled up significantly. This is a monumental task and you'd be right in being skeptical. However, the devs have proven thus far to be effective, attentive and reactive to feedback and are on track with their roadmap. AoC isn't for everyone, it's a sandbox in nature. I don't think it will be lore heavy and I don't expect cinematics or good story telling - though I'd love that very much - as Archeage was very grind focused and AoC is looking like the same.

Now it is not really there, many systems not up, mostly a grindfest for now and the world is not yet as good as it can be. But it is wonderful for the community spirit and old time randomly making party and guilds out of nowhere just because you happen to almost die near each other and decided that hey maybe we can fight together than alone. 3 weeks in and feels like it has the potential to be the succesful succesor of lineage 2 :D . Lets wait and see for now how fast they can churn content for now.

I don't know what is going to happen in the future. I only do know that I have enjoyed playing WoW for years and that I am currently enjoying (playing) Ashes of Creation Alpha 2 (especially with other people in game, building relationships/reputations/etc. experiencing an increasingly familiar world community as well as getting to know new people as I meet them and/or new people join the server I'm on😄). I'm also impressed by the Intrepid company as a whole, as well as singularly with their employees, at times. Sometimes in the past the Blizzard company as a whole and/or singular employees (and mostly in the era of Activision owning the company) have disappointed me for a number of (for me possibly determining) reasons as to why in the future I may decide to play AoC over WoW sometimes/more often than not/etc. (though again I still to this day find joy in playing WoW and believe there are people in the Blizzard company whom want to achieve admirability for the game and the company etc.). Unreal Engine 5 is used to speed up production. It is also possible to migrate from 4 to 5, which was not possible with 3 to 4. Basically, the effort for migration is not that great. Even laymen can create things with Unreal 5 Engine - it doesn't cost any money. Personally, I prefer Unity more because Unreal Engine has such a typical Unreal Engine 5 look, which is pretty genetic, and all developers have the same problems and think it's the game's fault. The workarounds to reduce stuttering are pretty wild. It's best to start the subscription model during the development phase. The people who still seriously believe that they really trying to develop something are crazy. I wonder when people will realize that MLM structures are being used in the game. For me it's pretty clear that it's a scam. Actually, there is only a concept; people buy an idea rather than a product. As long as you only sell a concept and people want to hold on to it, you can do it for several years. There are also people who want to believe in a god regardless of the known facts.

Ashes of Creation is sick. I'm cool with all the pushbacks as long as they continue to have weekly play time. A lot of people making these videos don't understand what an Alpha is. Alpha and Beta are stages of testing to flush out bugs before the product is launched. Alpha is the first playable state, that's it, nothing fancy, no marketplace, no friends lists, it's barebones. It's buggy as expected and I have reported a ton of bugs so far as is expected of me participating in the Alpha. If you think an Alpha means the game is close to completion you are out of your mind. December 10th the Rogue is being added and it isn't until May when the Summoner is supposed to be added. There is still a long way to go. To ask now if you should give Ashes of Creation a chance is a bit ridiculous in my opinion. Ask again in 7 months when all the Archtypes have been added or better yet wait until there is an Open Beta or something like a year from now.

Intrepid hasn't cut or expanded any of the promises they set out in the initial kickstarter of 2017. Progress has taken years yet the direction has always remained steady. They delayed for the transition to UE5, the fundamental rework their combat after A1 and to rapidly expand their staff when other studios had big layoffs. They can do that because Intrepid has never been in a rush to release nor have they been in financial trouble. Intrepid is in it for the long run and Ashes will release when it's ready. Regarding the cost of the Alpha, that's pretty much the monthly cost you would pay for a lot of live-service games or subscription based mmo's. Which makes perfect sense when you consider that running the Alpha test environment produces most of the same costs. Servers, support, moderation, bug fixing, ... Paying for testing isn't for everyone, but it sure is satisfying when they fix a bug that my friends and me reported. Bugs are getting fixed, problems are getting patched and for me every weekend has run smoother. Regardless of all that, even with only 1/5 of it's features currently live and only 1/18 biomes mostly developed, Ashes is already challenging and fun.

Looking forward to reviewing the game via content creators such as yourself. You have always given an honest look as well as a unique spin on your “fun” element. I think with the way video games are going we might have to stop looking back at what was. However I am a bit bothered by the consistent micro/macro transaction. But hey, I get it. Good take my dude, I’ve watched you since 2016 I think.

I wanna play it.. my reasons has nothing to do with what others players want from ashes. Magic in ashes look more Magical compared to other games, you see the characters making symbolic poses, magic circles show up and so on, something world of warcraft would not dream of doing.. or any other mmo I ever played for that matter. There is also a lot of class skin, they basically did what wow did with the hero talents, but 20x the amount, and with more depth and fantasy. i love it because i'm so TIRED of going on a mmo and see "Oh mage, let me guess.. does he use fire, ice and lightning?" the basic rpg classes are boring, predictable and overused.
@gregjross852
@gregjross852 4 күн бұрын
Symbolic poses and magical circles then saying that’s something wow would not do is literal brain rot. 😂 Casting animations are unique to race in Wow and magical circles appear every 2 seconds in any type of group content. Monk? Ring of piece, DH? Sigils and more Sigils, Mage? Lol meteor,flame strike,blizzard ect ect, warlock? Reign of fire? Evoker? Literally flying over the battlefield breathing fire. Listen I’m hyped for this game too but that’s just a stupid comment
@miramalverick2767
@miramalverick2767 4 күн бұрын
@@gregjross852 dh sigils are the closest thing, but no.. the fact you said stuff like ring of peace, meteor, you count that as a magical circle? also, just because each race does its own thing.. does not make it symbolic. the day I will admit this game got magical circles, will be the day a huge hexagram materializes in front of you where the fire ball passes through or something.

After about an hour, I tried the Alpha but could not get into it. The questing takes time to follow. It has had some updates since that time, But I dunno. Perhaps it's just getting used to it. The combat does not work for me at all. Ashes should be made behind the scenes and pushed out when it was very late beta testing. While I do appreciate the hands-on approach that Steven has taken, It just makes this game feel like this game may come out; my grandkids will play it while I am too old to play anymore.

unlike any other game that claimed to be a "wow killer" there are two factors that look promising for ashes 1. they didnt say they were the wow killer, other people are saying that about them 2. they have a clear timeline and open development and theyre sticking to it this is a lot more professionally managed than any other project that has claimed this.

It’s in Alpha im hyped for it but once again it’s in a PAID Alpha. They’ve done a good job creating hype but even in beta we won’t have any idea how the game will land and how things will turn out on launch lol. Game can be great and will pop off due to streamer popularity but all it takes is a couple early bumps for an MMO to dissolve quite fast. We will know how good this game is 3-5 months after launch.

People calling this game a scam at this point it just dumb a thing to think. This game is not a scam(scam ≠ not succesing), everyone who saw steven's interviews and streams now that he is just a simply guy with money that like d&d and mmos and want to make a game that he would like. He make a studio with real developers(some of them are exdevelopers from other big proyects) and they are actually developing things. A real scam doesn't work like that a real scam doesn't expend a lot of money making a supposed fake game and even reach this lvl of development, doesn't have the lvl of comunication intrepid have and when a scam show things to people is actually not gameplay or a super scripted gameplay showing as little as possible because there are fake prepared mini scenarios. Look at the day before scam for example, not a lot of comunication and when they show things are screenshots and scripted gameplay to show there is a game but in reality they wasn't even working on it, so when the "game" came out it was just a pile of 3rd party assets put together that's how a scam work so you really think at this point ashes is a scam? If intrepid is a scam it's a rlly stupid scam at this point is worth making the game than scamming people XD

Crying about how bad WoW is. Yet they are still paying for it. I feel bad for all good devs trying to provide a solution to this. Its not going to be easy they are going to face the wrath of the cry babies.

I was loving the game but last weekend ruined everything for me. I was playing with my guild. I’m a tank we then had 2 bards a ranger and 2 mages. As a tank I was dying a lot since we didn’t have our healer online. As a joke I decided to run a bow and we would kite everything. Well we noticed how much extra damage I was doing, so everyone switched to a bow and we just shared everything and we were all around lvl 14. It made me realize how broken the base game is and that’s being the combat and classes. We are also missing the last two classes as well. I feel like the base part of the game should be done or close to being done. We shouldn’t be waiting almost a year for all the base classes let alone passive skills and other things not even working. Feel like there is just too much work left to be done and they don’t have the money to do it all. I hope they prove me wrong but this isn’t looking too good for AoC in my honest opinion.
@EZeast1
@EZeast1 2 күн бұрын
To end my point. I believe they will be tight on money and they will push the game into 1.0 so they can start charging a monthly fee, so they can have funds to finish the game. With doing that I believe they will lose a good amount of players cause no wants to pay $120 for an alpha and then forced to pay $15 a month to still be in a most likely alpha/beta game that’s missing a lot of stuff still.

regarding ashes of creation: a friend of mine backed it when it started at kickstarters like 10years ago. i'm not sure i want to get hyped over this game. i know, MMOs need time, but i'll let myself get hyped when there's an actual release in sight. right now i feel the same way i felt about lost ark like 10years ago, when it was shown first: this game will never be finished, because the devs just keep on adding stuff. i hate the "you're special / a champion" trope so much. just let me be a pesky adventurer that get's looked down upon by strangers.. i come in your town, you give me some stupid chores to do, because you just dont trust me and when i've proven myself you give me the real tasks. but with wow that doesnt work anymore. some of us have slayn old gods and titans, the most powerful things known.. you cant go into a new zone and be an absolute noone. even if the trollelf tribe doesnt know you, they see how you are followed by 15 soldiers that all feel undefeatable just because you, the titanslayer, is there. it's one of the things that i really hate about wow storytelling nowadays. but you cant go back to being an adventurer in that plot anymore, it wouldnt make any sense.

My biggest problem and concern with ashes is the community, it feels like a cult, they praise shitty implementations or even anything new while they complained about same thing in different game. They had this battle royal mode 5 years ago but when i look at stuff from alpha 2 it feels like they regressed in terms of development. And alot of stuff feels like they are just assests placed randomly or copy pasted. You could add on top recent "drama" with asmon where ppl got "perma" bans for attacking asmon and u could say showing flawed system that u can camp low level players and in beta that they started is for testing. And dont get me started on how this company didnt let ppl down... They literally wanted to charge 100$ for only Alpha 2 access and changed it only because of backlash.

MMO's are not a quick cashgrab. It's a very significant financial risk in today's world, it takes many years, often 10+ to develop. Unfortunately a lot has been reiteration of old systems with a new twist on it. Most often there is nothing unique enough in them to keep players around, whatever novel twist there is wears off and people find themselves bored. Personally I believe themepark mmo's suffer from this more than sandboxes due to the lack of dynamics in their worlds. In sandboxes, you can log into a world quite different than the one you logged out of. In themeparks that's not the case, and it makes it more predictable. It's subjective, which ever you prefer. But in regards to boredom, sandboxes offer more variety and unpredictability in open world gameplay experience. I do think companies play it safe due to the increased risks with MMO's failing and loosing appeal nowadays, which is probably why old formulaic tried and tested systems get reiterated over and over. It's understandable, but undesirable. Often what you see is companies make it as safe as possible to avoid upsetting players (sandboxes are very much not safe which is why you don't see many) and add micro transactions to pull as much income as possible out of it while it lasts. Systems with daily logging rewards are cheap ways to incentivize player login and hopefully get some player engagement which may lead to purchases. Essentially due to a lack of innovation in the space it has become stale, went on a downward trend in popularity and subsequent MMO's had to get creative with incentives to play to recuperate losses and make as much income as possible. I also think we live in a world with a lot of good games out there, free ones too. To incentivize someone to play such a time investment as an MMO versus a solo or coop game with a drop in drop out style gameplay, that's hard. I can see a world where AoC suceeds, but it's a rough path to walk and nothing except fierce dedication to a flawless execution on the promises will get them there.

"The game has been plagued with delays." Not really. One HUGE delay (Unreal Engine 5, as explained) or one big plague. Missing a deadline here or there is not a plague of delays, that's just normal everyday development, whether a huge kitchen sink sandpark MMORPG or not. A major established studio with a huge team can rush out an MMORPG in 6 years and it will be probably need more work. 7-10 is a more realistic development cycle for an MMORPG. Intrepid launched their Kickstarter in 2017 with basically no team, they had to build the entire studio from the ground up. This game is pretty much on track for a standard development cycle that's not a cash grab, even with the Unreal delay.* 10 may be the high end but it's well within the expected norm. And again, this is an INDIE studio. As far as $120 to get access to Alpha...you will get to play AoC for months and months and months... This game at launch will cost $10 (or maybe $15) a month to play. But you will get to play AoC for 36 months if this takes 3 more years to launch. So that's $120 versus $360 or more.** The longer the game takes, the more value you get. So it's win/win however long the development takes. * And the Unreal 5 move was the right move; the game will be future-proofed. Do you really think you'll want to be playing UE 4 in 2037 when this game is 10 years old? ** Pulling the rug out from under by announcing weekend-only testing, though, that was BS. You're not getting a full month of value, so the math changes a lot. [Unless you can't play Mon-Thur anyway] 5 days a week is fair for an alpha, but weekends only was not, not for a paid alpha.

So long as you dont give them money, then sure why not? All you need to do is wait, untill they are done. Atleast untill they, make something thats has some good depths, functioning and it feels "finished". Then we can start judging it, so when it goes into BETA and after that. Then we can start talking about giving it any chances, but even after that. Dont give them moeny, untill the game is 100% done and reviews is out. :D If you are not a content creator who gets the money back from your ad revenew and so on, or even gets it for free.

I saw the potential in this game to be a popular MMORPG until I realized the direction they are taking is going to be highly unpopular and at best generate 20-50k active players after the hype fades away. Anyone who this the pvp system won't be abused on week 2 is completely delusional. Look at any other pvp mmo ever made.

I actually do not think people should purchase the alpha packs if they are interested in "playing a game." The only game to play with AoC is bug hunting. It's broken software that the devs need a large test team to test various aspects of their broken software. It's not a game in it's current state. and I am excited to see the evolution of this broken piece of software. See ya'll next weekend!

The "MMORPGs are dead" sentiment going around the last couple of years is not true. Maybe the player base is spread thinner because there's more games out there to be played, but I'm pretty certain that there's been more players playing MMORPGs in the years 2021-2024 than there was in the years 2011-2014.
