Agree with everything you say on new coin / case combination prices. I've bought empty Royal Mint cases on ebay for a reasonable price because I feel that they are nice to put some of my more displayable coins in as coin sets. eg Sovereign proofs etc. I think it enhances the resale chances, if I ever come to sell them to a private buyer, or maybe specialist coin dealer. The cases themselves do seem to hold their value on the second hand market separately from coins as I believe many people have purchased new & sold separately having split them.

The American market was being saturated with Gold Sovereigns on sale a couple weeks ago. I’m worried about the UK. This usually indicates the treasury sell off of bullion

Do they show anywhere how much they put out onto the secondary market? I noticed this a couple weeks ago that we were seeing stupid deals in the states for sovereigns like buy one $20 over get one at spot. I noticed the same just before France and Argentina had their respective issues.

I agree. Buying numismatic coins needs an experienced skill set. Somethings are just for fun, but only at a reasonable price. Others, require a bit of thinking in weighing up past, present & possible future values.

What a joke the royal mint are , limited edition of 700 yeah right, about 38 million of the 1977 silver jubilee crown were minted and the others have huge mintages too.

The Backyard Cynic. But what a lovely box it is old boy. Personally I eschew CuNi, I don't see the point of buying coins with no intrinsic value, especially moving into an uncertainty filled era. Will people care about coins at all? Will the people that do, even care about our specific history? I'd rather hedge against those uncertainties, by at least guaranteeing that there's precious metal content.
