As a Singaporean, I think you will be better off back in Japan if cycling vlogs is your main source of income. We have very limited places to cycle around and you will pretty much be doing the same routes over and over. However, if you want to experience life in our city state rather than as a tourist, it will be a very safe and comfortable experience, void of natural disasters but always with wet, sticky weather. Rentals are crazy but public transport and local food will be affordable for your daily heeds.

@@wesyee2455 don't kid yourself la. In this day and age when KZbinrs need to continuously create fresh content, how many times you want to see the same places? How long do you think one can keep viewers interested in such a small country? It's a nice place to visit but to be based here is a different ball game and they are better off in a bigger country especially for cycling. You don't agree don't have to tell me. I didn't ask to have a conversation with you.

@@rexchan8 the government can only built so much in a small place like this. Like it or not, it makes sense that at some point the content will be redundant like you said. I am a Singaporean and a cyclist. I don't recommend moving to Singapore because (1) the costs of accomodations (house or apartment) is extremely high, (2) within a couple of weeks, as Singapore is extremely small, you will run out of new places/route to cycle. Instead, I would recommend moving to Malaysia, possibly Kuala Lumpur. Kuala Lumpur offers the convenience of a city at a much lower cost of accomodations and food than Singapore. In addition, you will not run out of places to cycle and visit within a couple of years. Malaysia offers many of the things you find in Singapore and many other things you no longer can find in Singapore.

Cost of living aside, Singapore is basically living in a nutshell where basic needs and decent standard of living are fulfilled. Cycling wise, you will be rather variety starved due to the lack of land space to meet the sense of adventure on two wheels. So you could be pretty limited in terms of cycling but the orderly society is a big assurance. Like some others here who already mentioned Taiwan, I do not rule out that as a possible destination. If you do come around Singapore, hit me up for a coffee. Think hard, choose wisely. Good luck mate!

I'm a Japanese living in Singapore over 15 years (initially on Employment Pass [EP], then now PR). 😅As long as you can obtain EP, Thuong-chan should be able to stay by applying for Dependant's Pass. Compared to the past, getting EP is harder nowadays, so you might as well act sooner. That said, the high rent can definitely be a problem, though. To buy a (resale) HDB flat, both of you have to be PR, at least. If not, you'll be forever paying high rent month after month, so that's something to think about. Maybe you'll try for a few years first and see how it'll go? Good luck!

I'm not a you tube fan but recently got hooked to your channel. I welcome you to stay in Spore to see for yourself. What's with this high rental in Spore? If its so high why are so many people coming over to work? I read others asking you to try living in Msia. So why are so many Msians coming over to work? Of course there is pros and cons in each country. So please come and stay in Spore and give it a try even its for awhile. I'm sure you and Thuong felt very welcomed when you were in Spore right. You are a star now. I'm sure you have connections for cheaper housing and jobs and sponsors. Who knows you might proved others wrong and live in Spore for many years or for good. I think in terms of safety, language and cleanliness, you can't find a better place in SE Asia than Singapore. For cycling routes, it is really very small. cost of living is also a tad high(normal in small city states). You could live in SG and travel to other countries for your content. If I had to pick anywhere else in SE Asia to live other than SG, I would consider Thailand. I would highly advise you to seek the views of other expats living in SG to make your decision, instead of relying on comments in youtube from strangers who lives in other countries and see a need to put down any other countries and promote their own biased view of their own countries.

I personally feel that Singapore is a great place to retire to, or base out of if you are a foreigner as salaries are pretty elevated for expats and such. Not so realistic for the common local though. As for the cycling aspect… there’s only so many times you can cycle round our tiny almond shaped island. And when it rains… it can rain across the whole island for hours and sometimes days on end so there’s that issue as well. My advice would be to live somewhere cheaper, work remotely for good pay if possible, and visit often.

Hi Cruise! Many comments here from people who say they are Singaporeans and then nonchalently or as-a-matter-of-factly say some not so good things about Singapore are actually not Singaporeans but foreigners or from another neighbouring country. If you don't believe, you can explore other KZbin channels and other social media platforms for such comments and the like; they are everywhere. Just don't be fooled.

Most are here just to earn the strong SGD. Then bite the hands that feed them.

if it's everywhere, then i guess the not so good things are true.

Agreed. Why are these people working in Spore since they complained about the high cost of living? Have they tried living in a 3rd world country? Standard of living there is much lower but will they go there and work and live?

that is so true. I've watched so many food videos about singapore from expats/tourists. In the end, it always the same comments from others like "you get the same food, much tastier and cheaper in malaysia" and etc. Just enjoy the video and keep those comments to yourself. Taste are subjective. I can understand recommending them to reside in japan or taiwan, but malaysia lol? I've expat friends who reside in vietnam, thailand, sg, taiwan, philippines. I do not have any expat friends livining in malaysia. says much? few who resided in malaysia a few years eventually move to either SG or vietnam and thailand.

No doubt local cycling sights are limited in Singapore but hey you are conveniently connected to the world by direct flights

Rather than "racism" you seemed to be describing an annoying although relatively innocent form of prejudice. I hope you find a better, new home.

Forget the political correctness. He's 100% right in what he said and it's good that they don't sugarcoat their observations. In Japan it's racism. They really do believe to their core that they are "better" than you. No matter where else you are from. You would be naïve to think otherwise. You will never be accepted as an equal in Japan if you are not Japanese.

Hong Kong is a viable option for travel and perhaps a short term stay

anything related to bicycle might not be able to fetch you a high income here. a small country have very limited opportunity and not to say we have very strict regulations on bicycle.

as a singaporean: you're better off elsewhere sustenance is relatively cheap thanks to the food culture, but the cost of actually living here is RIDICULOUS; rent is frankly criminal unless you choose to stay in the "boonies" and even then public commute can be tiring. as a cyclist, the number of 'proper bike ride'-adequate roads and paths are frustratingly low, which is why you see most local cycling vlogs cover the same loops ad nauseam; the transport infrastructure isn't particularly bike-friendly as a whole ― the park connectors look good on paper, but there's no practical final mile solution which leads to the next point; driving culture here can get fairly hostile half the time, even if they aren't hostile, drivers here can get pretty callous about the safety of vulnerable road users if they think they can get away with it; even when you filter into the sidewalks, there's a significant number of sidewalks that get fairly gnarly for pedestrians, let alone a bicycle i love riding my bike, it's why i chose to be a bike commuter but as a whole, despite the growing cycling culture Singapore is just not designed to be a cycling-friendly place to live in

Grab in Singapore has an option called "Grab for Cyclists" where you get a vehicle that your bicycle will actually fit in without having to take a wheel off. 🙂
