Defence secretary Gavin Williamson has announced that women are to be able to join the special forces and SAS. But is this a good idea? Joining Jeremy is Rusty Firmin, Ex-SAS and author of The Man with No Gloves, and Vix Anderton, Intelligence officer in the RAF for 10 years.
Join Jeremy Kyle for his brand new radio show every Saturday from 1pm on talkRADIO.

Women lack the physical strength, psychological-physical aggression & hunting pack instinct that men have, & would generally be a liability to any unit they were attached to in serious scale CQB scenarios. This is more to do with a cultural fad for "equal rights" than military utility. And a female ex-RAF intel. officer (who now teaches Yoga) arguing with an ex-Infantryman over this issue, as if she knows more about CQB than he does, is ridiculous as well.

Why are woman not allowed to compete against or join the same team in mens RUGBY or FOOTBALL or TENNIS. Answer - Because they are not able to compete at the same level. Rugby - BOXING !! can you imagine! These are only sport! SAS is a much higher level than sport!

On top of That people die in SAS selection. It's some of the most harsh and brutal training in the world. SAS Training actually makes the NFL look like Disney land, you never ever see a woman play football with other men. It's completely asinine to put a woman through SAS Training.

Fine. Form a women-only SAS entirely separate from the men's. Let them risk each others' arses and not the mens'. You can't integrate critically differing physical ability in units in SF. Doing so risks lives.

@David Ward Who said the women would 'get' any resources? Like the Originals in the SAS, they would have to start the unit from scratch. If they *really* want to do it. The Originals didn't get any help. They had to scrape resources together. That's part of being SAS. Nobody said anything about handing them over a fully kitted unit like a birthday present. If they want it they should earn it, like Stirling's original crew did.
@finnbarsnowdrop545
@finnbarsnowdrop545 6 жыл бұрын
@David Ward They would already be paid as currently enlisted. You can't join SF without 3 years service anyway. Special Forces didn't start on 'SF pay' in Stirling's day. I see no problem.

I've been saying that about Special Operations and Special Forces military units for the American and Canadian military( I'm from Canada) . Form an all-female combat unit and see how that goes. I agree with Navy SEAL Mike Ritland, people are going to get killed. Political correctness and social experiments will get people killed in that world. Women in the SAS, SBS, the Navy SEALs, Delta Force, U.S. Army Rangers, Joint Task Force 2, Polish Grom, etc, is just not a good idea.

Yet more wilful ignorance of the bell curve. Men are more diverse than women in almost every physical, mental and psychological measure; men have a higher *standard deviation or 'spread' of the curve* So you can pretty much guarantee that if only one in 10,000 men have the ability/aptitude/intent to join the elite SF, it will be one in 500,000 women. This is borne out in the stats for Chess Grandmasters (7 out of 500). If you think you can't compare Grandmasters with Special Forces, again, learn more about statistics

US military has women attend Airborne school. 10 started my class and 3 finished, but under women standards. Bar hang instead of 10 pull-ups , push ups on knees and less sit-ups . Easiest way 2 see difference was US soccer gold medalist team gets beat by HS boys team or watch mixed doubles in tennis. Have 2 daughters and want them 2 try and dream, but not bending reality or getting by on lower standard. Even if women could fill out an infantry unit with men's standards, you would be creating a mess in cohesion. 18-21 year old young men and women together would be High school drama. Just info, US army doesn't allow weapons or women in barracks , at least none of infantry units I have been in.

Our SAS soldiers are highly trained very efficient killing machines. To enter this elite group an individual will enter a different world from being a regular soldier. Physical and mental torture , starvation, eating disgusting things to survive, beatings during interrogation, running endless miles carrying 50+ lbs, sleep depavation, sensory depravation...... and that's the easy part. Basically it is intensive torture to weed out any who are not up to the job, those who's heart is not in it and the dreamers. Equality is one thing, stupidity is quite another. These soldiers rely on each other to survive and need to know that the man next to them will do whatever it takes in any situation. Picking up an injured soldier who might weigh 180 lbs and carrying him over any distance without giving up will require physical strength, stamina etc. At the end of the day women will be allowed to join but none will pass training unless standards are lowered so this really is a non starter.

The US government released a study showing the combat effectiveness of mixed gender units is considerably less than that of all male units, and that was from the US marines, who are far less combat effective than Royal Marines, let alone SF. So the 'gender diversity' advocate you included in your program is talking utter shite. Also can you stop talking about strength, strength isn't as important as stamina in SF roles. Being able to drag an injured man 200 meters back to a position where he can be evactuated from, is entirely different to having to carry an injured man 12 miles, because you are behind the line and there is no support who are going to come help you evacuate him. Rusty is correct, but that won't be worth anything. Men will die unnecessairly, but again that won't matter, because it won't be the diversity advocates, or politicians who decided the lives of the men who will die unnecessary, are unimportant. And you all wonder why Britishmen are no longer willing to join up and stand in defence of the dystopia you've all created. You're having to aim to recruit non-British nationals to protect you, because we won't anymore.

Strange how this female omitted the US studies in this and only looked at the Canadian... The US marines did an evaluation on this (link below) I quote: "The Marine Corps just released a year-long study testing whether women can survive the rough, grueling world of ground combat. The details are stark. All male units outperformed mixed-gender units across the board." UK Army training both specific vocational skills and generic is and has been driven by Training Objectives since the early 70,s publication of the Army Systems Approach to Training and later evolved into DSAT. Objective Training criteria and assessment of competence is a key part of the SAS selection process which allows the Regiment to measure a candidates entry standard to then be assest as having the potential to be an SF soldier. However what is often missed by the critics of the system is the subjective measure with a less defined measure criteria based on performance, conditions and standards of the most valuable i presume qualities being character, trust, will the candidate fir in to the unit etc. A male or female candidate could do very well for the duration of the course passing the times, distance, runs, navigation tests etc,( Objective testing) but something about them as a person just does not sit right with the selection team. The bottom line is the unit is self selecting and if you perform well and they like your attitude, behaviours, values and character you have a better chance of success than a candidate who was top on all tests whose attitude stinks and the team dont like! Self selection by peers has its flaws but who else knows better if a man or a woman will be the best fit in such a select group of people?

They will never be able to pass the physical. The SAS/SBS will not lowering the standard. So front line SF? No. Can a 60kg woman pick up and carry a 15st bloke who’s been shot to safety? I doubt that very much. I think the only woman who has ever come close for the RM’s managed just about 9 weeks out of the 32 required. Women cannot do the same as men like they can. They simply are not strong enough physically. Just a fact. A tiny minority ever get into the SAS, the standard cannot be dropped for women.

I have always opposed Women in Combat Roles this is not due to ignorance or Chevanisum Its due to Experiance ! I my time in the Armed Services it was my misfortune to work in an outfit that had mixed sex platoons OCS Officer Cadet School Waiouru I this unit things ran pretty much as normal in camp apart from the usual love triangle BS... But when it came to actually doing the job in the field that is when things turned to Custard ! women pulling out of the bush due to that time of the month women having sexual realtions whilst on Sentry and a miriad of other BS problems ! A fighting mans job is to focus on the tasks at hand ie killing the Enemy and having women around only creates problems this is just a fact not an accusation at any paticular gender just a fact of human behaviour. Men and women work better when they work without the other that is also just a fact of life. Now i will get to the double standards in the NZ Army women are only allowed to carry 1/3 of their body weight and as most women are in the 50-70kg range anyone who has served can see the problem this creates women also have lower standards of fitness and strenght this is just a Biological fact women are allowed to do their pressups on their knees due to this they have also a lower target on the BFT more time to do the 2.4km run and less situps in fact they have changed the situp requirement to chrunchies instead of actual situps they say this is because of the back problems that sit ups causes but this is BS its to lower the standard so that women can pass the test yet again lowering the effectiveness of fighting units. This policy has been forced upon us over several decades by SJWs and polititicans who have pushed the "Girls can do anything" social justice experiment not anything to do with reality So there you have it that is my reasoning behind my stance on this subject i am not a woman hater by any strech of the imagination I love them as any male should lol At the end of the day this policy WILL cost lives at the end of the day if they were serious about this (all those SJWs and Polititicans) they would have started in professional sport and seen it fail massively but they chose to experiment in an organisation that the Government controls and the people have no say over Mark my words this stupid idea will cost lives !

Equality of opportunity does not equal equality in the outcome ... This erodes standards, which is ok in some workplaces but In highly-specialised services look at the fire service to see the drop off standards. look at Grenfell Tower and London Riots the service standard is eroded when lives are at risk how can you endorse this. They would end up lowering the Standards we already seen this. They lowered the height of the average bobby and that has lead to a less efficient and less opposing police force which is more susceptible to attacks. How many women would want this - this is a matter of National Interest lets have a referendum. These people need to look at what the SAS actually do ... they are not in the same Universe. Bill Sherman "What is the obsession with women in special forces is there only one Olympics one MMA one boxing let's put Connor McGregor in the ring with Holly Holm let's see how that goes nothing against women but when you kick a terrorist door in at 3am and have to go hands-on with 3-4 terrorists the woman becomes a liability no doubt" ... In the main special forces operate in small teams and are on ops for extended periods carrying loads 60 kg+ over broken terrain at times on short rations and water and the tasks required are getting harder, longer and more dangerous as due to increased publicity and frequent clashes potential opponents become familiar with tactics and methods used by special forces.

I think if, a woman can pass Selection and the Probation time, then they should be in. However, even though I would like to see women pass Selection, I personally don't think they are physically able to.

What would happen if a female soldier (SAS) was harmed on the field, perhaps under fire and her 2/3/4 male team had to remover her clothes to treat wounds etc? Just finding a bush to squat and have a dump could be a problem if you need to stay with a team mate (male) due to it being a hostile situation. Its not the regular army where there will be many other women about and medics on had. It could be a small group of men, with one/two women in the middle of nowhere. I don't think the women that would join the SAS are going to be the ones having a problem with these issues. There are some tough women out there, but are the army/government going to give the OK should some of these issues get sunlight? Will the army say their OK with women exposing themselves next to male collages? I think you could go all day with these questions......Who knows?????

What is the obsession with women in special forces is there only one Olympics one MMA one boxing let's put Connor McGregor in the ring with Holly Holm let's see how that goes nothing against women but when you kick a terrorists door in at 3am and have to go hands on with 3-4 terrorists the woman becomes a liability no doubt

It is a well recorded fact that most soldiers come back from kinetic war fighting suffering from some kind of post traumatic stress disorder. Have a look at how the British Army has changed post the war in Afghanistan and Iraq and one will see that there are fewer soldiers wearing medals. The majority leave having tasted war or having been medically discharged through having psychological problems having done horrible murderous things to other human beings. I struggle to think where a society is going when it wants to subject its females to this kind of barbarity and that these female soldiers may want to become mothers later on in life and raise children having themselves been psychologically damaged by war. If what I am saying is in doubt have a look at the documentary WW1’s Secret Shame : Shell shock- by Dan Snow and see how this side of military life is hidden. It also seems apparent that those females advocating a combat role ( ie infantry) have not ever served in that role and always use the tag line ‘for those who want to go down that route ‘). One of the jobs of an infantryman is to support comrades who are under fire, this would require soldiers to run 2 miles in 18 mins carrying 35-40lb of equipment and extra ammunition and all of your weapons and other specialist equipment. When under fire the needs for ammunition resupply will often be done on foot. I served with and trained female soldiers alongside their male counterparts and although fitness overall increased over the training period, gender fitness gaps did not reduce in any significant way. That is not to say they were not capable soldiers in roles suited to their specific abilities. Tank crew, pilots or artillery, but infantry is a different ball game. E.g. for as good as Nicola Adams is excellent at boxing, no one would seriously consider pitting her against an in form Mike Tyson- the consequences would be self evident. ( Anyone remember the knife fight in Saving Private Ryan)? Our future enemies will field armies capable of doing the job and we must avoid making the mistake of planning the next war based upon the last war we fought. The whole of history is against this idea- and for those who site Russia in WW2 females were snipers, tank crews and partisans in a backs to the wall all or nothing fight for survival. The Israeli IDF women are more security as opposed to hands on kinetic fighting. Last point over 100 women soldiers were sent back from camp Bastion (Afghanistan) due to pregnancy issues, group combat efficiency and cohesiveness is paramount.

By the time we get to military combat, problem solving, and diversity of perspective, is over with and it is only about who is militarily superior. So, any place made available to women for diversity’s sake will take a place form a man who could be selected, without the need for a bespoke preparation course. In MMA contests women contestants are being easily beaten by transgender contestants in the same weight class. The military is not about who can scrape through the selection but who is the best. Forget the buzzword salad BS, this is nothing more than the thin end of the wedge.

What the hell these women have no idea, SAS training is some the worst in the world and brings the toughest men to their knees men have died from from the SAS training. No man would want a women to go though that kind of torture. A lot of times you go though the hell of the selection portion a lot of people don't even pass.
