I went out Tuesday morning, October 15th, 2024. I sat on the ground with my back against a boulder in my ghilli suit. I shot a nice seven point deer at 8:25 a.m. It weighed approximately 200 lbs. on the hoof, and there was another one right behind it! I stood up, and he just walked down the hill! I suggest you get out there, but pick your days if you can. I chose the two coldest days this week, and I was fortunate to get the buck on the first day that I chose, but it was my third time in the field in two weeks. I live in Massachusetts, and I didn't use any scents or game calls. Good luck out there to everyone!

If you do you homework and know how the deer you want to hunt use a property there is no reason to not hunt mornings. Have good access, use the wind and you’ll have success. One could argue in early October bucks are still on a pattern both morning and evening and are much easier to kill with the proper knowledge.I learned a long time ago that there are many ways to be successful. Learn from other people but understand every situation is different and only you know what’s right or wrong for your specific situation.

I hunt mornings in August, September, October, November, December and January... It all comes down to weather fronts and wind directions... Deer have to eat and drink, and Deer have to mate... We as hunters just have to pick the "RIGHT Places" to be, (I prefer East/West creek-lines between two major crossings with bedding and food sources on either side), and the "RIGHT Times" to be there... That's why scouting (Visual and Walking) during shed hunting season is so valuable!!!

Trial and error, trail cams, years of experience, location, wind direction, are all factors to consider but not to hunt mornings you’re losing in a lot of ways. Some areas that are public with many other hunters or private land border by private land that is always heavily hunted basically produce pressured deer. Many abandoned the fields before first light and are 3/4 of the way to their bedding areas when “shooting light arrives “. So adjust accordingly, get back in those areas an hour or so before first light, don’t come in the same way the deer are traveling if possible. Slip in behind them and get setup, be ready for the first hour of shooting light. Another thing nobody seems to be talking about is the effect that Coyotes and CoyWolfDogs have had on deer movement. The traditional mass migration of deer into the fields in the evening has changed, at least in the east for many locations. The movement especially for many mature deer is that last 30 minutes or less of shooting light before they enter the field. Adjust accordingly, setup back a little further. My theory is the deer have changed their habits to adjust to CoyWolf peak movements, they want to be up on their feet, fully awake, and limber the at the same times. I’ve been bow hunting since 1975, seen a lot of changes, never stop learning.
@jameslinzmeier368 Жыл бұрын
Yes, hunt mornings, Yes hunt mid day. Yes hunt evenings. Strategy changes a little, Broaden your hunting range. Pick morning sits, noon sits, evening sits. When I was young I ALWAYS had at least 20 different options to choose from. ALL on public lands. Mornings and evenings seemed to work best for me, equally, but I did have a tendency to sleep during the mid day sits.

I think everyone is different, and certain Hunting areas are different. There's a swamp I Hunt up here in northeast Wisconsin, The AG the deer feed on is a long way, with no good bedding in between, so the swamp edge is great morning Hunting even in September. I have what I call prime & secondary Hunting spots, that I Hunt based on the conditions & wind I need for that spot, and the Bucks I've targeted in that area. Trail cameras help me figure out when & with what wind I need to Hunt certain spots. Lots of people Hunt a property. I Hunt regions, The North half of Wisconsin, and the U.P. I think calling evenings the only time to Hunt October is a Huge mistake. While you won't likely catch big Bucks except right by their Beds in the evening, catching them going back to bed late in the morning after an evening storm is solid early season tactics.

I own a ranch in Texas notoriously my bucks wait till 9 to 10 to move towards food plots and feeders. I think they wait till all the school traffic and people going to work die down, that’s the only reason I can think of. I quit getting to my stand at first light, there is just no use in it. Then as it gets dark they move back into the field. During the rut they come at mid day. My biggest bucks have been shot at 10:45, 2:18, 5:10. The smallest buck a 130 8 point was in the morning at first light, I used a light to get to my stand him and a couple of does didn’t even bother the fact I walked past them to get to my stand. I climbed up and waited till it got light to see. It was almost cheating. However to see a monster gotta hit the 9am mark.
