There are many different styles of mountain bikes available, from big travel Downhill (DH) bikes to featherweight Cross Country (XC) bikes. The larger travel Enduro bike has become very popular over the past few years, but for many people, the Trail bike might be the perfect option for everyday riding, especially for those who are looking for great pedaling and maximum fun!

I really wish more bike manufacturers makes bikes like this. Modern geo, good components, tough alu frame, decent amount of travel and very good price. This kind of bike with normal maintenance can last for years, without worrying. Yea I like to watch expensive bike reviews, but in last few years bikes become ridiculous expensive, even lowest models.

I feel mtb manufacturers have forgetting about categories, it used to be that xc bikes had steep head angles, trail bikes were slacker but not too slack, and enduro bikes were very slack, but now xc bikes are getting as slack as trail bikes from a few years ago, and trail bikes are getting as slack as enduro bikes, even approaching downhill bike angles, for example the new trek fuel ex can go as slack as 63.5, which is slacker than their enduro bike, I fear that eventually every bike from xc through to downhill will have the same head angle.

I feel like it depends on your intentions. You like flow trails with hills and like to hit higher speeds, go XC. You like going to nice varied trails with a good amount of climbs and descents with some technical stuff, go trail/all mountain. You like to go the the bike parks, go enduro !

I ride a 2021 Giant Trance - 130mm front, 115mm rear. For 95% of my riding, which is on pretty sedate single track in western Minnesota, that's more than ample (I'm seldom more than 2-3 feet off the ground). I used it for a first xc race for fun, and it's pretty fair to say that any weaknesses were more rider than bike. I'm actually planning a couple xc races next year and the only bike change I'm planning is a set of lighter tires and clipless pedals. I maybe get one park visit in per year - maybe if I were doing more of that, I'd feel like getting a more aggressive bike. But the lower travel on local area trails feels like a nice compromise where I can still feel the trail through the bike but it tames the harshness of harder hits.

I wish every manufacturer provided full information about the bike on their specifications pages. I mean, beside all components and sizes (some even won't tell you headset size!), most won't tell you about the bearings. There should be mandatory section for suspension: anti-squat, anit-rise, progression. Some started doing that, but it is few and far between. Hard to know what bike suits you and the targeted trails and how it will ride when you don't really know how it is designed. Vitus did well on the components and geo side, but failed with the suspension specifications

Trail vs "Downcountry" is big on my mind at the moment. I'm trying to decided if I should plan to upgrade wheels and to 130mm pike on my D7, which is really suited for the green and blue trails I'm riding so far (aswell as ridding to work sometimes and rides with my kids). Or not do any upgrades and work towards a trail bike instead with the slight possibility I might start riding hard enough to need one.

Could I get better stopping power out of my Shimano brakes simply by using a thicker disc? I want to upgrade but don't have alot of money but could use my ice tech rotors replaced soon and wanted to go bigger but should I also go thicker? Thanks for the help. I will say that still a enduro is king, but it will come at a cost with high end components and suspension to make up for its downhill bias. With more limited budget a trailbike will suit most people. Down country is prone to extinction, it’s just not enough when it gets rough, actually despite the tire choice there’s no difference between down country and a proper xc rig these days.

Best all around: Pivot Trail 429 enduro. Why because I do not go to Bike parks/ski resorts and just coast downhill and then ride a lift or shuttle up. I had a Trek 140mm FOX/TREK shock and 140 FOX performance 36 fork bike previously and it was garbage compared to my 120mm FOX Factory rear travel and 140mm FOX Factory 36 fork!!! I had just done a rebuild/service on the Trek also so the crap ride was not due to lack of service/maintenance. My T429 feels better in build quality, ride quality and comfort by far over the TREK. The T429 somehow feels like it has more travel than the TREK downhill and is MUCH more EFFICIENT pedaling than the Trek. I live and ride in the Midatlantic and Appalachian region. For me and my riding it is perfect! Stuff did not come poorly manufactured and fail like the Trek. I have had zero problems in my year of riding the PIVOT! Depending on what you want and the mountains, surface you ride, I feel most do not need a 140 mm or more travel bike. I think a well designed and quality controlled frame, suspension etc. makes a big difference. In the end test ride as many bikes as you can. Pick what you like and ride the fecal matter out of it, with a big smile on your face!!!!

I say yes. Though a downcountry bike would be mostly ideal for most riders (depending on area of course), a trail bike is going to be built to be more forgiving which makes it perfect for a beginner. Later on if the rider wants to step out to something, go for it.
@kangsterizer
@kangsterizer Жыл бұрын
trail bikes are not more forgiving than enduro bikes. theyre more forgiving than xc bikes. it depends on terrain, not rider. a good rider can take an xc bike or even a gravel bike down whistler but that doesnt make the bike good. people going on more gnarly stuff should get an enduro bike. people who dont should get a trail bike (lighter, better pedaling). bike park only? dh. definitely wouldn't get an xc bike by default tho.

I like the bike, I for sure would have more than one bike, I just got fezzari cascade, very similar to that bike, good parts, also rebuilding an old specialized rockhopper, old hardtail, I want to see how much the bike can change with more modern parts, complete overhaul on this bike, even paint, but I got my eyes on one of those trek roscoe, and maybe a road bike later on, maybe

Not going to lie all the diferant types off bikes you can get these days just confuse the crap out off me, just started mountan bikeing again after 20 odd years even if i could aford a new bike i wouldnt have a clue what to get!! both my bikes are about 15 years old, turns out one is a xc and the other is a trail bike i just googled it haha kinda makes sence after watching this video now as my hardtail isnt as nice to ride on steeper trails as my full sus but is a fair bit faster on the the flat stuff although dose have faster rolling tyres on it aswell witch i know makes a big diferance,

I made the mistake of buying a honkin' Enduro bike as my first MTB purchase. Its great, and can do anything...but that gets me hurt. I ride my hardtail more often now bc i climb and enjoy actually feeling the terrain. Currently looking for the perfect happy medium...

To start off, I'm old and retired and don't like my wheels off the ground too much - so jumps, drops, not really happening. But I do like to ride for miles and miles on the trails. I've got three primary bikes - a custom build Obed Boundary gravel bike, a much modified Salsa Cutthroat (mountain drive train, no suspension drop bar bike with 2.6 front, 2.4 back mtn tires), and the newest addition: a Revel Rascal full suspension with a Fox Factory shock and a Push coil. All of them run Hope Calipers and rotors. All Sram drivetrains.

Can’t say I disagree- great vid Doddy! I’ll add, however, that I don’t think the industry has really totally figured out the gray area between XC bikes and trail bikes. Where I live in Minnesota, USA many folks don’t need the bigger travel of modern trail bikes (120-130 would be perfect), but we still benefit from the strength, geometry and comfort of a trail bike instead of XC. Yes, I know what Down Country bikes are, but I feel many of those bikes are lacking the right approach for the terrain we have and many are too focused on racing….and a lot of them are just trail bikes with lighter components, or XC bikes with slightly more travel. There is a good size market for a bike with a rowdy (or more trail-focused) personality but still with only 120-130mm travel. Ibis Ripley comes to mind, but there aren’t as many real options here as you might expect.

I have a 120/130 66.5 norco fluid fs1 and I think its the perfect trail bike, the shorter travel makes it very fun and poppy, its very agile, but its also very stable, you can bomb down rough tracks as fast as you want, you can also ride down very steep double blacks, it feels good on flatter corners, its like a cross between a xc bike and an enduro bike, but of course norco messed it up with the new version by giving it 10mm more travel and making it a degree and a half slacker, so now its just your typical aggressive trail bike.

My longest travel bike is 140/130 and I ride all the same stuff as my buddies and their 160/whatever all mtn enduro bikes and have never felt under suspension. My next bike will probably be longer travel tho.

I ride a 120/130 trail bike and can keep up with my buddies on their enduro bikes too, I actually came from an enduro bike, I find the shorter travel trail bike much more fun, its responsive, agile and poppy, but its also stable, it makes small trail features fun, where the enduro bike would just steam roll over those small trail features like they weren't even there, making a lot of the not so steep tracks a bit boring.

I'm glad Vitus has got rid of the seat stay bridge,I have a '15 escarpe and there is barely 2mm of clearance between the top of a tyre,high roller or minion and the bridge,even if any gravel gets on the tyre it scrapes away on it,all the paint went years ago and I'm slowly eating away at the metal,shit design. I think my year of escarpe was the first 27.5" wheeled one and I think they just tweaked the 26" frame to suit.

All-Mountain! Trail bike with a bit more beef just not as much as an enduro. Still fun on the boring bits but can handle more downhill and is a decent climber. If I could only pick one bike it would be an aggressive/hardcore hardtail.

Very interesting. I looked up when the first bike park in Germany was founded and it‘s also 1996 but in comparison to the UK the idea never got traction here. I wonder why. Good video to make for GMBN auf Deutsch

Brilliant bike. Unfortunately, my trail bike duties are satisfied by a capable hardtail. My next bike is an aggressive mullet machine for bike parks, enduro and big western descents that beat me up on the hardtail.

Same here, I've already got a 140mm trail hardtail and my second will be something more aggressive but not hardcore. I was thinking Canyon Spectral maybe, seems like a good compromise between enduro and trail. That being said if I was forced to have only one bike I'd probably go for trail full sus like the one here.

Something I'm looking for getting back on a bike after a few years away but so much has changed its getting confusing I rode DH years back but not going back for that more Trial or Enduro now it seems I've looked at rhe Vitus but it's just Ugly maybe the red and the thinness of the tubing some the Enduros look nice but being old skool I don't know the name from my day's I feel the safe thing is to stick to what I know but that seems to be nothing now haha! See I rode the Giant ATX one and two and the Kona stinky DHs back in the day then moved to trials but back then trials was a 14 in frame kitted out for drops n hopping bars off bus shelters in the streets so it's all new this to me but really want back on a bike I'm just not wanting to blow my wad on something not suitable so the modern trial bike full suspension definitely is whare I'll be starting that's a big help!

i have an xc bike (custom 2015 fuji nevada 1.4 29er) and trail bike (2017 vitus escarpe deore upgraded to XT spec) and i do not need another or bigger bike where i live. Enduro and downhill bikes would be too burly and round here you have to ride up the hill to get down it or you're on the flood plain of the river severn and it's flat gravel (mostly national cycle route) 6:54 my escarpe has the same design but with a bridge and i can tell you this is the truth. 16:05 That's so sick. I wanna go one day.
