Maybe I'm crazy or maybe my hearing is weird, but to my ears the 30 seconds at 7:20 with the high quality noise suppression on was the best sounding portion of the video.

I have a webcam with pretty good microphone, but it captures a lot of noise. For a consistent noise, for example fan noise noise suptraction with profile recorded when there is no sond except noise works pretty well. If you are in a noisy environment (open window near a street, neighbour drilling in wall) you'll have to use an AI noise supression (Krisp, RNNoise etc.), but it removes pretty much every sound other than voice and it's not allways what you want. I find it useful when I'm talking on Discord while my 3D printer is running - it has loud fans and makes some noise by moving at higher speeds.

I just started RTX voice. It's a big improvement for the podcast but it does take some off my my voice. So I have to tweak it a bit more

personally a noise gate with a hard cutoff feels unnatural and unpleasant, id like to have minimal background noise so it retains some atmosphere and sounds "normal"

I have a bit of background traffic (passing cars) in my podcast episodes but my vocals a clear. I live in a city so getting a quiet environment is not possible and I can't soundproof my home office. Even with a dynamic microphone, you can hear the traffic. I'm confused about whether I should use a noise gate because it isn't effective.

You take the risk of damaging vocals with the noise suppression. Sometimes you can use a downward expander to push down background noise at least enough for it to not be intrusive. Big thing to make sure you’re doing is placing your mic 3-5 inches from you mouth as to avoid unnecessary gain and allow for the mic to work at full capacity

Hey if you're like me and just like how you look with glasses, use the opportunity to get some good blue light glasses! I didn't realize how badly I was suffering from eye strain until my daily headaches went away, and it used to feel difficult to move my eyes by the end of the night. Quay has a pair (called I See You) that look just like the ones you have on.

These glasses do actually have a slight blue light protection to them I have noticed but I will look into those glasses! Thanks Mason

Steel Series Sonar is a Voice Meeter alternative. For the mic you have an EQ with easy preset 2 different noise cancellation (the IA one is very efficient) 1 gate 1 compressor I made the following set up : AI NC : 36 Gate : Automatic calculation Compressor : 0.30 I record with Audacity and a USB Dynamic mic. My place is treated (with different layers of acoustic foam in front of me and in my back) but absolutely not sound proofed and I live in Bangkok, which is a very noisy city! I, then, do a light treatment with Izotope RX 10 (De Ess, De click, De Crackle and eventually some EQ for Harshness and a general enhancement when needed) It's better, easier and faster than Voice Meeter + Krisp, and it's 100% Free 👍👍 I'm a Voice-Over actor so, I need crystal clear recordings. In the video, the gate works when he is not talking, but instead of that the noise we hear is not acceptable to me.

7:50 I tried RNX and I found it actually very useful. I also checked all the possible info on the creator of that filter and I have to say that's the old dude who is in speech recognition technologies starting probably from 80's and he also was in development of hearing aids and whatnot. So it seems to me he does understand what the heck is doing with all this new RNX stuff.

I cannot stop my neighbors dog barking my mics picks it up while i am talking i need noise suppression on, but even with it on it still picks up the damn dog wtf? I've always always have had this issue it was worse when my/my uncle's dog was still with us may he RIP. Oh god i turned it off to test, it's even worse than i thought, cuz' i also need a fan running 24/7 for 2 reasons heat and mosquitoes and damn they're loud af even noise gate doesn't stop the fans when i have it at -45dbs i absolutely need noise suppression.

I think you can try a downward expander or something similar and have better luck with higher quality sound image than noise suppression. but again, there are cases it makes sense.. it just depends

Honestly I think the only things Noise Reduction techs are suitable only for $10 webcams and $3 mics. In this case you WON'T loose any vocals just because... Well yeah the vocals never were really there in the first place. But if you did purchase a decent mic... Well it seems right about time to make some acoustic improvements around your very own house.

I turned off noise suppression a while ago. My only background noise is my PC fans and a ceiling fan. I feel like my microphone is far enough away from both of them to only use a gate. Still gotta work out some things though.
