My thought process is to bug in, until you can't.

Bug out will hopefully be last option, but you need to be able to leave if it becomes necessary. Be safe and plan for both.

This is simple, bug in until you cannot, bugging out should always be an option.

Both are the best plan... depending on the situation. The absolute most dangerous mindset is to be closed minded. There's a time and a place for everything. Bugging in is best until it isn't.

99% of people will bug in as it's where your supplies are and it's your home. However, if there is a imminent threat to life then you have to be prepared to evacuate, ie Bug out, even if it's just to a hotel or a friend/family member in the next county. Your preparedness plan has to stay fluid. Great video by the way 👍 And hello from the UK.

Spot on sir. We need to be prepared for bugging in or out. We’re in a small town, in a typical neighborhood. We know a couple of our neighbors but most keep to themselves and some don’t even wave. We’re prepared, but as well as I would like, but what we do have is kept so that we can grab and go. I keep a bug out bag and it is my EDC bag. Two adult sons, one retired military and has a clue, the other not so much. We’ll survive; I’ve learned a lot from your videos.

Good evening Sir! Great stuff as always, and definitely a thought provoking subject. I think it’s cool to see a lot of the same thoughts here….. bug in……. As long as you can…… but be prepared to bug out as your last resort. Great stuff again, thank you for all the awesome content! Take care and my best to you and your family!!!

I keep a few backpacks packed for emergency. I keep my preps racked and ready to quick pick to address what area I might have to encounter.

A good perspective. I see bugging out as mostly a forced situation, not one you'll have much of a choice over. Floods, forest fires, chemical disasters, and of course civil unrest don't leave you any choice, and even the immobile can't stay then, so you must be prepared to bugout no matter what even if that means going to a public shelter and hoping for the best because that's all you can do. But unless you live in a vulnerable location, bugging in is almost always your best option because you know the area, you know the immediate situation there, and hopefully you'll have some friends close at hand who can work with you to improve the local situation. Being older and with some health issues, I can't go too far with any speed on foot, nor can I 'hump' a heavy load anymore. I won't die without my Meds but I'll lose the enhanced abilities they give me. By far I'm better bugging in, but I can bugout rapidly if necessary. During the uncertain beginning of the Covid pandemic knowing my health vulnerabilities, I decided that my urban location was untenable. Long before I'd already arranged a primary bug-out site at a friends property up in the hills away from the population but still near enough to retail resources to take advantage of them should that be possible. Being ready made the whole thing much easier and quicker to do. I also had a 'window of opportunity' to gather some things to bolster my plans before I left. It didn't all go as I'd envisioned but it worked well enough so that I lived in relative comfort. Because of other changes in life, I now live there which has changed my bugout plans leaving me two good options: returning to an urban location or going slim and primitive further into the hills which will be very hard to do for me at this point. So "my eggs" are currently in one basket mostly, and this summer I'm going to 'prep' two sites I can make it to if my 'urban' option won't work and I can't stay here. One is a place I already have knowledge of nearby I can get to on foot and other will have to be found. If longer vehicular travel is possible I have a friend about a hundred miles distant who I need to discuss things with on a deeper level to possibly have it ready if I need it. Being prepared for anything has to be the aim, and that includes bugging in and bugging out because anything is possible and nothing ever goes completely as planned. It was something of an adventure bugging out back then, and it showed me firsthand the strengths and weaknesses of my bugout plans, which has let me 'fine-tune' everything to a higher level than before. I'd suggest that you 'test-drive' your bugout plans realistically so that you can do the same. If you have kids you can sell it as an 'adventure weekend' kind of thing rather than a 'forced march'. Just do it realistically and don't do anything extra to prepare for it that you wouldn't be able to do if it were forced. Like me I'm sure you'll find some things you will want to change after the real-life experience.

I took early retirement in the Philippines a Tad over twelve (12) years ago. First on the agenda was to determine likely threats and rank them. It is a very different ball game than where I lived in the eastern US. I have two lists, one for natural threats and a second list for man-made threats. Earthquakes and flooding are two primary dangers. No matter how well constructed your home is, never say never to earthquake damage. If you survive this, it may be time to go to your secondary location. We have what is needed to camp out on a vacant lot in our subdivision. That option may not be available in the future. We then might choose to grab what we can for the trip and get a move on. Most of our (your) gear can work for you in whatever situation you fall into. Having back-up radios, computer components etc. stored in a a robust Faraday cage is a great idea. That equipment will serve you no matter what the emergency, it does not have to be an EMP, natural or manmade. I go for choosing items with multiple uses. Stocking the home, for our family, Is simply a larger version of carefully packing that last-ditch bug-out bag. In short, choose your gear with redundancy in mind and that will help to lower cost. It appears that most commenters agree, better to stay in place unless there is a darn good reason that you can not.

Yes, but your hand can be forced so be ready for either scenario. Since you're probably setup to stay put see the possibility of a bugout as easier to arrange since you've now got only half the preparations to address for whatever may happen. Perspective matters.

Not a good attitude. A forest fire, flood, or chemical disaster can force most people's hand making staying put a death sentence for you and your family. You owe them better so plan to bugout should that become your only viable choice. There's a whole lot more to consider than TEOTWAWKI.

Planning and ciphering with a pen and paper is the most inexpensive and efficient way to transition from bug-in only prep to being dual capable. Itemize all needs individually and asses. For example, you identify that you'd need a sleeping bag to bug-out but you don't own one. Fifteen cents worth of paracord will wrap up your heavy synthetic comforter. You just saved $50 by planning and assessing. Repeat until plan is cheaply completed.

As you'll see in natural disasters, most people are unprepared and panic when they have to leave, trying to gather together what they think they'll need in a rush and doing poorly because of that. Even if bugging-in is by far the better option at least plan thoroughly for a bugout to better be able to deal with it if it becomes your only option.

Everything you theorize, ponder or strategize here is possible or true What I can tell you as a 100% disabled combat veteran with 16 years of service throughout the world in countries where I’ve witnessed all that we talk about possibly happening here , it all happens and ends the same You can prepare, bug in or out but the truth is inevitably it will end the same for the vast majority of people If you think you can go and run off and survive in the mountains, the vast majority of people will die within the first winter they experience in those mountains, forest etc. I’m not saying not to prepare for both scenarios what I am saying is that all the preparation in the world will be meaningless in the end There are forces at play the vast majority of the populace won’t be equipped or trained to deal with and they will ultimately perish through many different means Now I’m not talking about short term emergencies but a true apocalyptic event such as societal breakdown, domestic war etc. It’s not enough to just prepare Train your brain and body to the best of your ability Knowledge is power Adaptation and movement is survival For those that are elderly or disabled (including myself) it’s more challenging Myself for example, although I am highly trained and experienced I am not mobile I have to understand and accept my limitations maximize my experience and training in bugging in and understand and accept that this is where I will make my last stand I cannot survive with my current physical limitations bugging out for a prolonged period So I teach my family my skills and pass them the knowledge as best as I can Still, they don’t possess the experience I have That alone would get them killed if things went left instead of right So prepare for both scenarios, train as best as you can Help one another Trust your intuition Be kind where kindness is due Be violent where violence is due and proper Because I can tell you for certain, violence only speaks and understands one language A greater opposing force of violence It actually respects that and I fear most will not realize that until it’s too late So, be prepared to live And, be prepared to die and face death Because even with all your preparations you will certainly come to know death intimately until your day arrives And when it does, I hope you go with honor and not dishonor ✌️🇺🇸

Thank you for your insightful post and for your service. It is good to hear you are teaching the skills you have to others. My prayer would be to see guys in your situation teamed up with younger folks who want to learn. Build a group who will support one another during times of crisis.

@@NewHampshireJackI have one. A group of veterans I have known for quite a while and our families. We all have varying levels of experience and skill sets both from the military and our private lives that complement one another We also know that if something should happen to one of us for any reason, the group will continue and take care of our family We have an outdoor range surrounded by woods and acreage provided to us by a farmer that is part of our group that we use to teach and train others who are willing to learn We will train boys and girls from the age of 16 and up or 14 If they are accompanied by their parent It’s done mostly through word of mouth as I currently live in central NJ which poses its own challenges We volunteer our time and they get the training for free I can walk but use a cane and walker when needed. Have pretty bad balance issues amongst other things and yet I’m still capable of accomplishing more than most Just not what I know my full 100% could be Not even close However I’m 54 now and not the younger man I used to be either If I was 100%, physically, and not disabled I would still be able to go with the best of them So, yes, a group is very important for a number of related reasons and training under stress is also very important Thank you for your kind words ✌️🇺🇸
