2.3L owner here… For anyone scared of getting one, sure its said to be less reliable than the 2.0 but in my experience, its really not so bad. IMO, that engine is still waaaaay more reliable than the ones found in a lot of used cars. I just make sure to change my oil more frequently. Never had a single issue with my engine. Replace your fluids and stay on top of maintenance and that think should last a long time.

Change your oil seperator/PCV valve. You'll thank me later. It's a Lil tricky to do if you never pulled off your intake manifold cause it sits right under it. Also use Valvoline oil and possibly a motor flush. I'm gonna do an engine flush my next oil change and I'll let you know how that goes.

I totally agree with Colton - this car ROCKS! Except... that he's wrong about the 2.3l - I have a 2007 with a 2.3l, and it's got 210,000 original miles on it! Doesn't leak a drop, and runs like a Swiss timepiece! I do meticulous maintenance on it, and I only use synthetic oil. Never had a single mechanical failure, just stuff wearing out. Thermostat, one of the ignition coils, and that's it. Plus I have the 5 speed automatic, and I'm sure that's easier on any motor than a manual "run by an amateur" ;-). So I say the 2.3l is bullet proof if you take care of it... Get One!

My Girlfriend had a 2.3 GT in Highschool that I eventually blew up, even with the clapped 2.3 it went all the way to 223k. I had thought about purchasing a new vehicle, test drove a few, and ultimately ended up putting a 2.5 Fusion motor in. It's an 05 so I had to do the cam swap. It's been a little over a year since the swap and the car is literally bullet proof. It's my daily driver and I've driven it across North America twice now. I frickin love this thing. So much so that I intend on picking up at least a couple more eventually. This car does everything it's supposed to and reliably. It's got all the amenities you could possibly need. Currently my odometer reads 263k mi and the sun roof still works. Currently in the process now of lowering it. Have a couple mods now, (those of which are really easy to do) like a cai. I just felt the need to leave this information here cause I feel like it could be helpful. This is also my first car as well. So if you're someone who is thinking about purchasing one of these, I'd highly recommend. And if you're somebody with know how, blown 2.3's go for like 3-400 here in the states sooo, do it.

Bought my 2.0l manual 07 Mazda3 in 2021. It does burn oil, I go through about a quart every thousand miles but it’s super reliable. I bought it at around 220k miles and I’m at 242k right now. I popped a clutch line a while back but it was installed wrong by the previous owner and was rubbing and eventually tore a hole in the line but that’s the only thing that’s happened so far. My car is completely stock but it’s still fun and handles better than any other stock vehicle I’ve driven. I get 30mpg on average and I bought the thing for only 2600usd. I don’t think there’s a deal any better than that to be honest.

Had a silver 2004 2.0 Active sedan manual for 10 years. Beautiful car in the Active spec, basic 3 series can look a bit dull. Very reliable, only changed the ac pomp and altenator in that time. The steering is so direct, just perfect. Ride is a mix between comfortable and sportive, although the front suspension can be noisy. Did change some suspension parts there. Engine just enough power with 150 hp, but very smooth and very reliable. But the traction control is not smooth at all. Would recommend this first gen, however the biggest negative is the rust, oh boy the rust. Had it fixed twice but had to sell it because of that. You hardly see them overhere in The Netherlands anymore.

Been eyeing a few here, I live in Sri Lanka (where you can pretty much only buy used cars to begin with now). Always wanted to get something like this as my first car, been watching loads if your videos lately too cuz of that. We just have the 1.6 L and the JDM Axela with 1.5L, but prob is that they miss out on loads of features found in other markets like power seats, sunroof, Bose audio and a bunch of others (steering wheel doesn’t have half the buttons too). The JDM is marginally worse with only fabric seats, rear drum brakes (no disc) etc. but at least the engine is a bit more peppy. I feel like I can make do without those and most newer active safety features, but what I feel most off putting is that not even the top trims here came with Side curtain airbags, which I feel are crucial passive safety features, they can be the difference between you getting out alive after getting T-boned or not. Made me lean more towards Civic FD1s from the same era (2007/8), thought the Mazda still might feel a bit more fun to drive.

I'm ignoring all the filters and fluids I changed because I just do that regardless when I buy a car and also ignoring new tires. Can you please explain what you mean by relocating the TCM
@nublafiednubbie Жыл бұрын
Remove it Off Top Of Transmission so it wont Overheat, if Not The Tcm Will Overheat an Cause Tranny To Go Haywire Shifting .. Most Folk's Mount it Against The Firewall... I Relocated it Mine Into Battery Compartment 👍
@ReubenBibera Жыл бұрын
With the first Gen Mazda's the TCM or Transmission Control Module is stupidly located right above the transmission which generates a lot of heat which basically is slowly cooking your TCM. A while ago I was having transmission problems which ended up being the TCM, relocating it did help a lot, but the damage was already done and had to be replaced. Do yourself a favor and get it relocated as soon as possible. Hope that helps. Good luck😊

Where do you relocate it to?

I''ll take my 2.3 hatch over anything under a speed, reliability is like owning a dog, its on the owner to be trained to own it, not on the beast to maintain itself. I like your points though and will subscribe to any mazda owner! cheers Colt

the only thing I dislike about mine is the rust prone metal and the crazy amount of stock rear negative camber

Rear camber is like that for a reason, beneficial for handling purposes!

@@ColtonRichter I know, and in the corners, it's lovely, but when the vast majority of my driving in on public road, seeing visible tyre wear on the inside kinda hurts

Have it aligned if you haven't, i've seriously never had horrible camber wear (and that's being lowered since i've had it). I also rotate my tires wheels quite often
