Guess I misspoke. After 4-5 years or after warranty, then the problems will happen. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good jeep but they are not meant to keep long term unless you can fix it regularly or have enough money to get it fixed. It’s like a Benz or BMW….LOVE them, but lease or buy and sell it within warranty and you’re good.

This is one of the best technical overviews of the 4xe plug in hybrid system I've seen so far- However.... the battery is actually inside the passenger cabin under the rear seat where it is easier to control it's temperature and is more protected from offroad trail damage. The skid plate underneath the jeep on the driver side that you pointed out covers the Integrated Dual Charging Module (IDCM) and the Power Inverter Module (PIM).

So many other car review channels seem to focus on interior/exterior design. They might pop the hood and tell you the torque, HP, and fuel economy figures (which you can easily find yourself), but *very* rarely do they spend this much time (even under the car!) discussing the build quality of individual components within the powertrain, suspension, exhaust etc. I’m not a car enthusiast, and so have to admit that occasionally some of it goes a little over my head, but it has prompted me to do further research, which I appreciate. These videos can probably help one become a better consumer and could almost be considered required viewing for those in the market for a new car. Thanks for what you do!

You are the best car reviewer on KZbin hands down. I have this 2.0T in my wrangler but I don’t have the 4xe. While it does have noisy injectors that make it sound like a diesel I have to disagree about the engine being overworked because I am almost always cruising around under 1500 rpms. The 2.0 feels super powerful in the wrangler. I think that heavy battery and hybrid setup in the 4xe is probably what is making it feel more labored.

I just watched this 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon review for a second time. This was several months or longer after the first time I watched this. I'll repeat what I wrote before: This video is, by far, the best Jeep Wrangler JL review I've ever seen. Keep making reviews as good as this one, and you'll virtually eliminate the need for the "automotive press." As a 2012 Jeep Wranlger Unlimited "JK" owner, I greatly agree with and appreciate your review of this 2024 Jeep Gladiator. Do I have any differences with what you said? Absolute none! You ARE the expert! Thank you very much! I love my Rubicon and I love Jeep Wranglers as daily drivers here in Hawaii. But I'd never, repeat never, consider driving a Jeep Wrangler on a coast-to-coast highway trip as I've done numerous times in a Buick Enclave. You make the points about a Jeep Wrangler as a daily driver for a family far better than I can. Andrew McKane, 8 March 2024, Maunaloa, Molokai, Hawaii.

Most of the people hating on Jeep offer ZERO specific gripes, but rather really on sophomoric comments or ignorant & outdated reliability notions. Also, the 4xe is certainly more complex than a standard 3.6L gasser, but the same goes for most hybrids these days. Jeep is selling these 4xe at a healthy volume, so the childish opinions are no less than clown 🤡 world perspectives.

All of today's vehicles are a completely different animal. Especially for all the brands that are just now getting into the hybrid, ev designs. We've got engineers that are new to these types of powertrains. Then you try to get mechanics who have zero training or experience working on these cars... It's like asking a bicycle repairman to fix your home computer. All they can rely on is the manufacturer for answers. And since they've never seen the problem either, we're screwed. 10-20 yrs from now probably it will be much better. That's why I bought my 1st and only foreign made hybrid, a Toyota Venza. They have been making hybrids since 1997. Funny as usual Japan actually stole the designs of a hybrid vehicle from the actual inventor, Ferdinand Porsche!

TBH, he is right, to do a proper PHEV, you NEED separate cooling systems for all. It can circulate coolant while engine is off. Also you do want it like a Nissan Leaf with air cooled battery. The battery does not last or work as well. During Jet engine testing on one I will not mention, the engine blew up during on-plane, ground testing. One of the ways to prevent it was recommended to idle engine 20 minutes to prevent oil coking, until they could redesign it. 11% of the engines were pulled out of service to inspect for rotor cracking, as the inspections take many months. As you can imagine, certain airlines using this engine on an Airbus A200neo/320neo series FITTED WITH SUCH ENGINE, were affected. Not all are. They DID redesign it and appears OK for now, but personally, IMO, I would fly only a plane with the competitor engine, CFMLEAP made by General Electric and French Safran Aircraft Engines. AFIK, none of the Boeing planes used the geared turbofan motor made by "redacted" only the General Electric/.Safran engine.

One thing to watch out for is oil changes. Even at dealer. Pentastar v6 was updated to only hold 5 quarts. Dealerships are still trying to force 6 quarts in there which is probably causing issues long term. I’ve caught several dealerships doing this with my “free” oil changes. I guess they have been doing it wrong for years on every new pentastar v6 that comes through there. 🤣

Hi, really great video 👍 and I don't want to disappoint anybody, but I need to tell our story about this car. Well, the 2022, but there is little difference with the 2024. We have our Wrangler Rubicon (2022) for about 26 months now. It’s my wife car. She is in love with this model and in Belgium you can only buy the hybrid model new. We live in Belgium, no rough terrain, just our street is muddy over 1 mile when it rains. So no off-road adventures done. It drives great, when it is not in the garage for repair. After 1.5 year (about 6.000miles) the aft RH brake caliper seized. (Again, never driven in very muddy conditions or rough terrain.) Around the same time, airco inoperative >> broken wire. Also, it rains inside on the driver and passenger side. Always wet under the floor mat when it is parked in the rain. Now after about 2 years (10,000 miles) the famous death wobble around 60 miles/hour (Again, never driven in very muddy conditions or rough terrain.) >> steering shock absorber replaced and checked alignment. (JEEP advice) And now since about 3 months the car shakes from left to right at stand still and makes a metal sound. It feels like it wants to shift gear, but doesn’t. It doesn’t shake the same every day, sometimes a bit less or more. In electric mode or engine running, park, rev, neutral or drive position, doesn’t matter. It seems to come from the gearbox. The car went to the dealer, and they changed the wire loop to the electric motor in the gearbox (recommended by JEEP) It didn’t fix it. The car stayed at the dealer for 4 weeks, awaiting a solution from JEEP. No result until now. We picked it up 2 days ago (they wanted their free rental car back). No problem driving it but shacking Steven is still with us 😬 They await another solution from JEEP and are aiming for the gearbox (really?). So there will be a big chance that they need to replace the complete gearbox…to be continued… We are very disappointed as it is not a cheap car (around €70.000 here) and we already have issues as which make it look a 15-year-old car. (Again, never driven in very muddy conditions or rough terrain.) So far my advice is, look up (we didn’t) what issues u can expect on forums even if you buy a new one.

I haven't watched the video yet but the fact that it's made by Stellantis formerly Fiat-Chrysler is all you need to know. "According to a post on the Dodge Challenger Forum, some Jeep 3.6L engines have been found to contain casting sand in their coolant passages. However, this issue is not specific to engines built after 2018. The presence of casting sand in the coolant passages can cause issues with the heating system and may require a coolant flush and heater core replacement. It is worth noting that the presence of casting sand in the coolant passages is not a common issue and is considered a fluke . Every block leaves the foundry casting mold loaded with sand, and yet engine issues traceable to casting sand are very rare." @@User-q6x3b

Here in DFW, you can find 2 year old Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe's with low miles going for 20k below what they stickered for. The one I checked out on carfax today was stickered for 61k in 2022, now trying to get flipped for 41k. The high voltage battery had been replaced at only 2500 miles. It had one recall notice already addressed, and 2 more open recalls... one of which stated not to park it in garages, next to buildings, or next to other cars. I can only assume the parts weren't in to fix it yet? These 4xe's are being dumped left and right, and rightfully so. Not helping is (as this video states) is the complexity of the engine, the wimpy 4-banger, the (future headache) turbos, and etc etc. But, perhaps worst of all, this Jeep only gets like 21-23 miles on an electric charge (when it's working properly). Once you exhaust those precious 20 something miles, your 4xe becomes the least fuel efficient Wrangler in their lineup. That's what 600 lbs of battery dead-weight will do. And, almost comical, Electricity America 🇺🇸 recently touted these 4xe vehicles can now be fully charged in only 2 hours. Imagine being a green-nick and going on a 1000 mile road trip. To use all-EV power, you'd have to spend over 95 hours (3.96 days) stopped to charge your vehicle (assuming it doesn't catch on fire first).

It's a Jeep, so it will break eventually. That said, would you prefer repair costs in the 100s or 1000s with several month wait times? I cannot fathom buying something like the 4xe. You end up getting high 20s of gas mileage instead of high teens sure, but the added cost of the hybrid system and the complexity associated with repairs and long term ownership rules out any of the economic benefits. That, and your mechanic will probably just turn you away. You will have to go to the dealer for engine work. Good luck replacing the three water pumps, turbo, MGK, integrated manifold intercooler etc. Like, if you want efficiency and are that concerned, just get a different vehicle. This isn't an economy car at all anyway. The only wrangler I would get would be a pretty stripped down 3.6 with a manual. I'm sure the automatic is okay too, but with Stellantis added complexity is a bad plan.

As a Jeep owner for years, I found the maintenance/repair costs are on par with my Honda. I don’t think it cost more or need longer wait time over other vehicles. Jeep wranglers from the $36k base model to the $100k loaded models share most of the parts. The reason some Wranglers are so expensive is due how Jeep bundles and prices its options, for example, in order to get heated seats, you have to buy a $4000 winter package with upgraded rare axle and heated engine block, plus remote start. To get leather seat, you have to choose top trims that come with many stuffs you don’t need. The V8 version gets just super expensive because you have to get every freaking options under the sun.

As far as the Hybrid 4xe, it is a plug in hybrid, not a traditional hybrid like a Honda CRV hybrid, which the ICE constantly running and consume gas. For a plug in hybrid, when it is in electric mode, the ICE is off. So you basically don’t use any gas. If your daily commute is less than 20 miles, you don’t need to run the gas engine until you hit the “gas oil refresh mode”, which the car force you to run the gas engine to keep it healthy. But electricity is not free unless you live in the areas that provide free EV charging. If you can’t charge at home, this EV thing becomes a total BS, pain in the rare end and will absolutely drive you insane. But I can charge at home with less than 20 miles daily commute, the 4xe works for me.
