I have to believe that most people buy a watch for the aesthetics. This may not apply to everyone, but most of my GMT-owning friends hardly travel outside the state, much less the country. There is not a single scuba diver amongst my colleagues who proudly don their Submariner. And despite paying a small fortune for the privilege, I have yet to see anyone use their Chronograph’s stopwatch. Breitling watches are for the people who lean into the absurdity of it all and say, “Here it is, world. My watch is so ridiculously complicated with its busy navigation slide-rule maze of a dial and bezel that nobody could possibly believe I actually use any of these features”. Breitling owners are the most honest of the bunch. They bought a gorgeous watch because it’s gorgeous, period.
