I bought one of these new back in 2019, and kept it for just 9 months before I traded it in. We just couldn't live with it any longer than that. We've had several different Range Rovers in our time, and we still love them. However, the Evoque was a massive disappointment. We didn't even get to drive it home ourselves on collection day - arrived at the dealership to be told that the car needed a software update and wasn't ready! They gave us some nice accessories by way of an apology, but seriously? What kind of brand new car needs a software update and why on earth hadn't they done it before? The infotainment system is glitchy, we quickly got used to the Bluetooth just refusing to work, same with the parking sensors and cameras... One of the fancy door handles refused to retract one day and had to be replaced. The build quality was equally poor, panels misaligned all around the car. You can see the same thing in this video - check out the alignment of that boot lid to the light cluster beside it. For the money they charge for these you can expect a lot better. If you're looking at buying on of these, save yourself the disappointment and get yourself a Macan instead. Off road ability aside, it's a better car in every way... And let's be honest, virtually nobody who would even consider an Evoque is going anywhere near an unpaved surface anytime soon.

I have used all of the cars in this segment and the evoque is the best all round. None of the others really match the evoque when you really do want the assurance in bad weather or poor road surfaces. If anyone wants to talk about reliability then there is not much between them but the evoque does give that qualityn feel with the materials used in the cabin. So a big thumbs up for the Evoque.

Nice colour with the shiny black trim. Tried to go for a test drive in one, but at 6'4", and the Evoque having a sun-roof, I was sat with the chair on it's lowest setting, and my head pushed against the ceiling, and that's discounting the sloping roof and rear seats. I like the styling, find the Velar a better "fit" in terms of style, quality and base options, but my BMW X3 is a much better car, and a lot cheaper on a lease deal. As for the reliability thing Matt, the owners reviews across the JLR group tell a definite story. You may get lucky or unlucky on any particular car, but that doesn't make it a 50:50 chance.

I had an Evoque, much better than a lot of people give them credit for but reliability was an issue - EGR valve, EGR cooler, NOX2 sensor all having to be replaced, also had an issue when it was in drive of not being able to select a gear to pull away (drive light flashing). Was a nice looking car and drove really well, economy was also very good and never dipped below 40 mpg was good when it worked though, although it was the D180 it always felt a bit slow. Eventually traded it in for a straight 6 3 litre diesel X3, night and day difference between the two cars and wouldn’t go back now

Good review, but a little optimistic. This car has some significant irritations. I had mine from new and the O2 sensor went bad leading to rough idling after only 8,200 km. Replaced under warranty but it's a bit poor from a new car. Auto start stop cuts off seamlessly, but it starts quite rough. Rough enough to make you not want to deal with it and turn it off every time.. Can't really drive with the driver's window down because there is some strange wind resonance in the interior going on.. Braking and going back to accelerator like at roundabouts confuses the car and there is a noticeable delay in power delivery. I've had 4 occasions where the infotainment system crashed and I couldn't use any of the onboard functions. It recovers by itself after a couple of restarts. The dealership said it was a software issue. Reasonably comfortable ride though.

Also, I took a 4 wheel drive hybrid round an off road track in Skipton (free when you buy a range) and I can say it is as capable as a defender on most surfaces. Only thing is the wade depth is deeper on a defender. I will be getting the 4 wheel drive next time, but for the time being, the 2 wheel will suffice for the wife, who absolutely loves it.
