When we asked the customer about his driving habits he said he only used the car to go and get the paper of a morning! Should never have been sold a diesel car.

That’s a nice car, it particularly suits the colour. The Ingenium engines get a bad reputation deservedly in my opinion, however you landed lucky as it appears that the turbo is the problem along with a blocked dpf. These diesel vehicles are not suited to short journeys, far better that they are kept in the power band slogging away doing motorway miles.

They have known about blocked DPF’s causing problems including engine runaway, so why not have the soot percentage displayed on the dash. Not for Land Rover but I have a diagnostic tool you can leave in the OBD port and one of the functions is it can display soot level and if need be you can do a forced regen. It uses the cars own info display to show all info. Guys mind give the intercooler and piping a clean, also flush engine and do a few miles on new oil and change again. Again I enjoyed the video. Cant believe someone was less than honest about outstanding finance on a car they were trying to sell you 😡

How much of the metal from that intake impeller made it into the bores? If metal has made it into the chambers (let's face facts it surely has) there could be all sorts of issues with the bottom end. These might not become apparent immediately, but they will put an already vulnerable engine at serious risk. First thing I'd have done is drop the oil and check for fine metal, before letting it run. TBH I wouldn't need to after looking at that turbo... I'd bet my last £100 there's been metal in that oil I used to work in a lab assessing race teams' oil for fine metal particles, it's an unseen engine destroyer, even when very good mechanics can't see it! That's why race teams with $100k plus engines drop oil for lab analysis so frequently. You seem like decent guys but I wouldn't touch this car with a 40ft stick.
