Have you tried some tutorials on simple Irish ballads like "Molly Malone" and "Fields of Athenry". I taught myself the tongue blocking method because that is what my grandfather used. I asked him to teach me and he told me to buy a Hohner and come back to him when I could play when the Saints go Marching in without any mistakes. I practised for weeks and then went and played it for him without making any mistakes (although very slowly) and he responded with; "Well, now you can play that you don't need me to teach you do you?" He was a sly old fox me thinks....

Thanks again for providing a wealth of harmonica knowledge to all those who wish to learn. I have been playing Lee Oskar and Hohner harmonicas for a while now, and despite being curious about Seydel I haven't been able to convince myself to spend the extra money after already investing a small fortune. I have always liked the idea of stainless reeds but have heard mixed reviews. I appreciate your honesty and your explanation as to the differences between playing stainless and brass reeds.

I'm using 3 hole draw (half steps and etc...) seydel is little bit sharp for me and Holes is big for me. Hohner is much louder smoother and fast for me 😎

The "enter to win" thing sounds great. The harps would be fun but I think the lessons would be even more helpful for me. I'm not sure there's much more I can get from randomly searching KZbin.

I've been playing Seydels for a long time, along with some other brands. It can definitely take some getting used to when doing 4- and 5-hole octave splits, as the 8mm hole spacing (vs 7.5 on Hohner and other brands) can mean it takes a lot of stretch. When I switch back to a marine band I end up accidentally making my 4-hole splits too wide for a bit until I get used to it again. Only takes a song or two to get used to things again, but it is something I have to think about. If I had my way, my whole stage kit would be EITHER all 8.0mm spacing or all 7.5mm. But for now, I make do with my hodge-podge kit!

A bit late in my comments but just to add my bit - as an amateur at the adv beginner / intermediiate level (maybe). I love these. I have replaced my Hohner S20's (that I have for most keys - cheape!r but ll great) with these 1847 silver for my most commonly used - G and A. Very durable (i'm probably not the most subtle / gentle of players!), nice to play, sound good to my (somewhat untuned) ear. And recently I boght an seydel 1847 Noble in the Key of G that is absoutely gorgeous - looks and sound. I've always had trouble with G harps, esecially bending, and after my previous 4 brands of this key, it is by far the easiest to play. Only slightly more expensive than the base 1847.

I just recently got into collecting harmonicas and bullet mics. I've got a nice little collection of Hohner, Seydel, Tombo, Suzuki, and Herring harmonicas. Your video explains exactly what I've been experiencing with the stainless steel reeds. I've been playing music for my whole life (50+ years) and only recently discovered the wonderful nuances of the various makes and construction types. Looking forward to learning more from your videos.

I'm a beginner/intermediate level player. I got a lot better on harmonica when I started buying Seydels. Why? Because know that whenever I sound bad it's *my* fault not the harmonica's fault. So I keep practicing. With Hohner/Lee Oskar/Suzuki harps, I was quick to blame the harp whenever it sounded awful or wouldn't bend. Having confidence in the harp you're playing puts the responsibility squarely on the player's shoulders.

I have a suzuki bluesmaster and a suzuki manji in C, the manji is heavier and does take more effort to play, but my manji in the key of A is my go to harp, took me a long time to "break it in" or train me, dont know lol. I rarely use my manji in C because the bluesmaster is so much easier to play but the tone on the manji is really nice. That seydel sounds great but as a talented musician you could play a tin whistle better than I lol:) Thank you for these videos

I like the sound of classic 1847. The stainless steel reeds last longer than brass. Both hohner and seydel are great. It is more about the way you play your tone and grove and feeling than your harmonica. You cant play with no skills. Thanks Bro for this review.!!

Tomlin, I think that you can do this with any hormonica of course it sounds great, but I am sure that you said in a much easier video to stick with with Hohner Marine band as they are great value and easy to play, and go up to seydel and suzuki when you are more experienced. I am sure that 1847 will boom now, even I looked them up. Well done mate. 🙈🙉🙊

I've been playing Seydel 1847's for approximately 5-years. I do tend to play hard and the stainless steel reeds for me sure do outlast the life of brass reeds. I've got 13 1847's and each one has been great right out of the box. I never had much difficulty learning to bend the stainless steel reeds. I've never been into , or interested in over blows or over draws with them so I can't comment on that.

Is it harder to customize and tweek? And what is your opinion of the magnetic devices that can help bends along?

@janpeters-jansongsproducti1010
@janpeters-jansongsproducti1010 3 жыл бұрын
You close the gap just a little little bit of the reed to the reed plate by very gently pressing the reed down in the middle of the reed - never at the tip end. Rather in the middle closer to the end where the reed connects to the reed plate. It doesn't take much at all and there are lots of KZbin videos on gapping harmonicas.
@TinaSkrutti
@TinaSkrutti 3 жыл бұрын
@@janpeters-jansongsproducti1010 Is that the same thing as embossing?
@janpeters-jansongsproducti1010
@janpeters-jansongsproducti1010 3 жыл бұрын
@@TinaSkrutti Nope - I don't mess with that but harp customizers will. I believe that's where you scrape the sides of the reed slot to 'push' the edges closer to the reed and thereby making the reed slot a tiny bit smaller/tighter - this makes for even more air tight. But there are definitely videos on that on the tubes.
