I could see them announcing/releasing a steam deck 2 a year or so after the switch 2. Depending on how the hardware on the switch 2 is and what it offers, valve might consider going down that route and seeing if they can put out a really major improvement. But i wouldnt expect a steam deck 2 untill at least 2026/2027 if not later. Assuming theres no crazy breakthrough in gaming tech between now and then which is always possible.

For anyone wondering if they should purchase the Steam Deck, this is my experience. Short answer- YES. As a playstation gamer my whole life, and having a ps5 i was unsure about getting the Steamdeck as it is technically a portable pc & i was never into pc gaming at all. However, this device has exceeded my expectations. I have been playing RDR2, FO4, FO New vegas, Black ops 3 (Custom zombies) & it has been absolutely amazing. It runs all the games smooth and with amazing graphics. The videos don’t do it justice, the device its self is a power house and is very large, but not heavy at all. The Oled screen is Perfect for gaming and always pops out colours brilliantly. I have started purchasing games from STEAM & the store is always on Sale, buying tripple A games for £5-10 feels illegal lol. Needless to say, it has replaced my Ps5 for the past 2 months, and has got me contemplating on buying a PC in the future. It feels like a console/Pc mix, providing the console interface while allowing you to change Fps & graphics settings like a Pc. Also, i have been playing all of my favourite ps1 & Ps2 games on it through emudeck and they run amazingly. It doesn’t even feel like emulation at times, it feels like i have a portable ps2 which is something i could have only dreamed of in my childhood, i downloaded all my psp games too. This device is amazing & is essential for any gamer. Being able to play psp, ps2 & even black ops custom zombies in bed is a feeling no other device will give. Valve deserves all the praise.

Changing performance levels is not something we take lightly and we only want to do it when a significant enough improvement can be achieved. We also don't want increased performance to come at a significant cost to power efficiency and battery life. In some places that Valve is not oficially selling (Australia, Brazil, and lots of other countries) and products may take at least 1-2 months to arrive nationally, and at least 6 months to have a reasonable price, might mean that the Steam Deck 2 would be a good purchasing idea only early to mid 2026 - even launching officially in late 2025.

My gaming pc was cutting edge maybe 8 years ago. The Steam Deck today I estimate to be roughly the equivalent in power, but I can play it on the couch or dock it to a monitor/TV. With kids I just don’t feel compelled to go to sit at a desk and game, which is usually away from them all. It feels odd to explain but I just want to be in the same room. My old gaming PC does everything I want it to (modern AAA titles just don’t appeal to me much) so having something equivalent which I can carry everywhere is highly appealing to me. SD OLED is slated to finally arrive in Australia this month, so I’ll be definitely picking one up. Don’t care about any potential future device. SD would fit me perfectly as it is.

I got my SD almost two years ago, and I absolutely loved it at the time, because it meant I no longer had to lug around a heavy-ass Alienware gaming laptop to play games at work during downtime. It was great, and still is, because I've been slowly chipping away at almost 8 years worth of backlog on Steam alone. I can indeed confirm that playing tripple-a games from a few years ago is great on the SD, while playing new titles is pretty much a bad time now. Getting God of War Ragnarok to run steadily without looking like absolute trash was so bad, I just uninstalled it, and will now be playing it on my gaming rig. The SD just can't run Space Marine 2 without necessary tweeking of the settings; and even then, struggled during parts where activity on-screen got hot & heavy. It's just crazy to see how it's about to be three years since I've had my SD, and it's already old...it's like owning a hampster.

My man, can we also give a massive round of applause to the steam engineers and developers? I bought my steam deck like a week before the oled came out much to my dismay, but i decided to keep it and upgrade the m2 and joysticks. when I went to play black ops 3, i had an issue with crashing on loading screens. I contacted the support for help or advice. and a week later they pushed an update that fixed it. these people actually listen to their customers and I will sing their praises till the cows come home! Give em an honorable mention in your next video if ya dont mind. +1 subscriber!

I feel confident that valve will wait longer than a year from now to release the SD2. First, this gives developers time to actually develop games catered to the SD, three years is just barely enough time for a developer to make 1 or maybe 2 games. And i have to assume valve wants to make the second steam deck more than just a more powerful steam deck. The oled added much more than just an oled screen, and i feel they will do this for the second one as well.

I sold my old 64gb Deck last year and I kind of miss it now. I am contemplating on if I should buy one again. I don't want to break the bank as I am very interested in a PS5 Slim rn too. I haven't checked the website in a while but now I see the cheapest models are out of stock and idrc about the OLED version.

Thanks for the helpful video. Will probably order one in the next month since Santa wasn’t able to bring me one…

do you think they have gta 6 in mind? like if you could sell a handheld that can play gta 6 that would pop off i think?

ohhh i have no idea, but i hope so

With all the steam deck updates that is improving both the lcd and oled models, by the time gta 6 comes it will play that game very well

If Valve releases SD2. I want them to change as little as possible while improving CPU, GPU and battery. That's all the SD needs. A little bit more power. Also, keep the versatility with repairs. SD repair-ability is top notch. The best in the market!

Personally I think the competition will push Valve to release a new console sooner than a significant leap in tech will. With the new handheld consoles coming out with larger batteries, more RAM, and better bigger screens buying one of the competitors consoles is seemingly more like a no brainer. Plus you can create a Linux partition on the windows consoles and have the dual boot option where you can run Steam on them and have the best of both worlds.

Ngl even when the 2 comes out imma hold onto this one. I don't play anything crazy enough to require anything more.

Could you talk about if this would even be usable particularly for women with smaller hands? We’re always overlooked in tech and end up having to buy a worse version of a product to even be able to hold it comfortably

I fooking love my steam deck OLED, the ergonomics are great ( no stupid asymmetric joysticks ) Steam UI, free online, custom controls and steam game sales. As a long time console owner, It converted me to PC. My deck has plenty of life left yet.

I'm intending on getting a steam deck instead of a PS5 . The difference in graphics isn't that big a deal to me .

I sold my SD, because I did not enjoy playing on it, but with OLED screen, that could be a game changer.

Going from my primary gaming device being a Switch lite, the SDoled has been giant leap forward for me. With my backlog, I can’t image ever needing to upgrade even if game support stopped tmro lol

Completely agree with your last point on waiting for a new technology or the newest version of technology to come out. I never bought into the never-ending cycle philosophy of waiting for a new version of something. Life is too short to wait for marginal improvements of a device. Matter-of-fact, there are plenty examples of the newer version of something actually not being better than the previous. I won’t wait 1 or 2 years for a few hundred dollars. I rather just play it now and buy the newer version whenever it comes out If I want. Nice video…

I always find such videos so weird, like, should I buy an existing product that I want today or wait for an unknown amount of time, possibly years for the possibility of a product that may or may not ever be released.

considering how shit Xbox and Playstation are now I 100% would recommend anyone whos just getting into gaming or wanting to move from them to buying a steam deck, if you just want a platform to play your games on without worry of being locked into the echo system, especially since the steam deck is practically a handheld PC that you can modify pretty easily if your even just a little tech savvy, then its the way to go honestly, I'm currently thinking about getting one since I'm practically done with Xbox now, I've grown sick of the pay to play online shit they push, not to mention if Steam were to go to shit like I said, you aren't locked to them and have options

lol this is the exact thing i’ve been wondering about so thanks for making a video addressing it. like im completely sold on the steamdeck but i don’t wanna end up buying it just to have the steamdeck 2 come out like a month later. same thing happened with my ps5 that i bought last year. i bought the original version and the slim got announced just 2 weeks after💀
