The suspension does add extra cost, weight and maintenance, but it’s also adding a new dimension, opening sport possibilities. We’re riding today, new places and challenges that were impossible when I started 14 years ago. I believe every beginner should start on a slow wheel without suspension. Learning good habits on a wheel that’s not forgiving any mistakes, does follow a rider all his life. Today we have it so much easier. Speed is easy to balance. Suspension is forgiving. Pads are forcing your feet at the same, ideal place all the time. They’re helping you to brake and accelerate. Even the firmware does help the rider. Wheels are better, but they don’t make better riders. They are making an illusion of competency, because they are fast and engineered, even designed for specialty purposes The basic Art of the wheel is slow, light weigh and nimble. The sports of the wheel are another story. A story we are only beginning to write.

You are probably from USA or other first world country. I'm from Brazil, where the quality of pavement for roads streets and sidewalks is terrible. Holes and cracks and uneven paths everywhere, for me suspension is an important safety feature. I would rather ride without a helmet and protective gear on than without suspension.
