I have one in burnt orange. Been living with it for 9 months as a daily, and have to say it's been great. I paid 17k for a 17plate with 17k miles, probably a bit expensive but overall it is a great car. I agree that you have to drive it aggressively to be rewarded which is why I opted for a manual. However I also spend a lot of time in traffic and it's pretty comfortable, more comfortable in fact than my old 52 plate Corolla. Good review btw. 👍

Interesting. I have to disagree with one major thing. You say it’s a good second car. My partner used hers as a workhouse. It was used everyday for a 60 mile commute, right through the winter too. We live in the Scottish highlands and with good winter tyres on 16” wheels it handles snow and slush with ease. With the rear seats down there is a fair bit of room. She used to throw bags of compost and manure in there, stuff for the tip, bundles of decking boards, in fact, all sorts of crap. In the summer back on its 18” wheels it was used to go on holiday with 500 mile drives down to England. They are an awesome every day car :)

@@177SCmaro Two completely different cars for different things. Mustang will be way more comfortable and shove harder at low rpm but the 86 is the better proposition for stuff like AutoX but will punish you for everyday driving.
@177SCmaro
@177SCmaro 4 жыл бұрын
@@DeltaAnt1000 They're not completely different. One is a pony car (basically a combination of a muscle car and a sports car) the other is a sports car. There is some overlap. And the mustang ecoboost beats the 86 at just about everything except a very tight road course. If the 86 had another 70-80 hp and a better power band then it would be the other way around. Unfortunately to make an 86 do that costs more than an ecoboost so you might as well get the mustang unless your heart is set on a pure sports car. There is individual preference but the ecoboost objectively performs better out of the box in more categories. The lackluster power to weight of the 86 kills it stock but it does look to be "driving a slow car fast" type of fun.

I'm on the horizon of moving out soon and I've had my eye on this for a while, and I have to say this video I think may have just tipped me over in favour of securing one this year! What you said about it being an "ideal second car" resonates with me because I work from home, so my only time spent in the car is for long (fun) trips up the country, or for leisure meaning my primary car always feels like the average second car. Hello like the variety of cars you've shown lately, keep going, variety is always interesting. With the GT86 only 2 things you have to do,1 change the oe Michelins for anything further up the performance tyre range (primercey hampered the handling as they gave no grip)2 remember you have a torque lite engine because Japanese manufacturers don't understand what torque is. Regards Simon.

I just bought one from High Lane garage, agree with everything you say, but you should try a manual, the power comes in a lower revs. Love watching your on the road shots, spend most of my time trying to spot which lane you are on. give us a wave as you go past our house while you are hammering up the by pass.

Toyota created the GT86 with the mindset of producing a low-powered, lightweight chassis with great handling and skinny tires, making it easy to throw into corners for some tail-happy action. Like most of Toyo's, Mitsu's and Subaru's sporty'ish models they kept also the tuning scene and aftermarket in mind. and there is what the real fun starts, for about 4k you would be able to customize your car to a street legal fun machine that beats the hellout of the Audi TT RS or Beemer M3/4 yep i definitely would consider the GT86, but nowadays i'm too old to pick up girls with a high revving engine, and my wife wouldn't approve.

I have a 19 plate manual and love it. Don’t forget it was designed to be easily modified, adding a turbo or supercharger kit for around £3000 and still keeping the Toyota warranty is a massive positive!

Nice one. Another affordable review what the average man (or woman) could afford to buy. Easy on the eye but I can’t help feeling it would have been a proper GT with a 2.5 or 3 litre lump in it. As it stands I think for money saving alone plus similar fun factor I’d opt for the MX5

I looked at this car and it was on the list because of it's reviews but when I realised the engine was a Subaru boxer with 200 bhp I looked elsewhere and bought a BMW M235i with 330 bhp, that was 4 1/2 years ago, I now have a MINI JCW with 231 bhp, now that's an exciting drive.

I got mine from Toyota as an approved used, comes with warranty etc, also fully checked, it had a recall for valve spring replacements, so it had the full works, new gasket etc before collecting it. Makes me smile every time i look at it parked up and when driving.. Ive plugged the intake fake engine noise pipe which makes that droning noise inside the car. It sounds much better now and quieter, you can actually hear the true engine flat 4 sound and it feels a bit nippier, overall a fab car for the money £11k for a used gt86, cheap to run, drifts and wheel spins on tap! Can be modified just like the new Supra.
