I'm using a vintage 50mm canon lens with my fujifilm XT3 and I absolutely adore the pictures and the colours I get. Hazy, true, manually focus, true, but it's FUN. Specially the colours, they get a blue or magenta tint and it's not desagreeable, all the opposite.

I use some lovely old 60s, 70s and 80's vintage lenses. I would probably class anything with AF as a pretty modern lens tbh. My favourite vintage lens is my Minolta MC 58mm f/1.4 and Helios 44-M-4 (58mm f/2). They give more character with the way it produces bokeh and they aren't clinically sharp like modern lenses but definitely have way more character :)

Enjoyed this video. I'm an old film photographer and only in the last 8 years moved over to a digital SLR. Since I couldn't afford to completely replace my lenses, I have adapted one of my old FD 20mm to my Canon 6D. With some patience in manually focusing and exposure control, I been able take maybe not the sharpest photos, but very similar in "character" as those I took with my old AE-1P. Not going back to film, but it's nice to bring along an old lens in my current photography adventures. By the way my 50mm STM is my "always on camera" lens. I need a reason to switch to something else.

Thanks for the video. I have a new Canon crop sensor camera and I found my old 50mm f/1.8 in my old AE 650 bag that I got new in 1987. With a Viltrox adapter it works well. I also have a 135mm f/2.8 prime that was in my old bag. You are right - they are noisy.

Going to the UK. Glad my Fuji body and all my AF lenses are weather resistant! That being said, when weather permits, I love shooting with my Pentax K-mount and Takumar M42 lenses. They look cool on my X-T5 and the body's analog dials and various manual focusing aids mesh well with these vintage lenses and their aperture rings. Coupled with the various film recipes, it's a great combo. Really takes me back to my film days.

What you said Josh makes absolute sense. I still love my Canon 50mm nifty fifty. I find it fast and sharp. I like that you included a bit of humour in your video. I have been following you for a little while now and you have come a long way. Keep it up matey. Now, off to Vero to subscribe to you 😃 Cheers, Ann. ☕

Wasn't really expecting AF lenses when you said "vintage", but they are definitely getting up in years. I posted a video a while back using on old Pentax 50mm on my R5. The older lenses definitely have a different look and are just fun to use. I need to get back out there with it and see what I can come up with again.

As someone that loves shooting with classic Helios 44-2 (mainly for video but photos too from time to time), I find the complete lack of character in most lenses today pretty unexciting. I always use modern lenses for my professional work, but when I'm photographing for fun, vintage all the way baby! As for the black mist, I think it has mostly to do with the presentation of bokeh vintage lenses tend to create (and the massive variety of looks bokeh can have based on the number of blades), at least thats what I feel it is based on messing around with both.

I've a 50mm 1.8 stm as my main lens. I obtained a 2nd hand 28mm - 135mm canon ef lens and it was dirty inside. I took it apart and cleaned it. When i took it out to test it, when i extend the lens fully it can't focus on the distants only up to a few meters from me. Do you know would that be characteristic of this lens or have i broken it? I really am a beginner. I mean it's great for macro and close subjects with image stabilisation. And i can use 28mm setting for landscape so it's still useful. There's just so much to learn still. I have had amazing results from my 50mm 1.8 stm even using auto setting on my canon 5d mk ii and canon 5d classic. It's a fantastic beginner lens for affordability. As are the old cameras. Your videos are really brilliant. Thank you

Out of the five lenses I use to varying degrees only one is modern only because it is a 10-20mm. All the rest are vintage Pentax lenses, all being primes except one. As a landscape photographer my favourite len is a 28mm prime so much so if it's not wide enough I shoot a pano to get the comp I want. Stoating video sir.

Nice video! Something refreshing after watching other channels review a $600 lens. I own 5 vintage lenses at various price points. Wondering about opinions on using this glass on a modern high-resolution sensor? (32 Megapixels, etc)

The principles still hold true 😁 it’d make a higher resolution picture, but with the character of an older lens

Absolutely I would buy vintage lenses... In fact I have a 50 1.4 from the 1970's that I've adapted to my Nikon Z camera. Obviously it's manual focus only and it doesn't feature the latest optical formulas or coatings but I think using vintage lenses has their benefits and sometimes will have their own special look over your typical modern lenses particularly when it comes to things like bokeh or out of focus areas.

I recently tried film photography for the first time in about 20 years. Unfortunately the cost of film is outrageous now. I picked up a Fujifilm camera with its built in film simulations and was amazed by the colour band overall look it produced with minimal editing, maybe slight adjustment of highlights and shadows. My Canon is now only used as a wildlife set up. Thanks to the Fujifilm system my photography is now not over complicated with all the editing an just a couple of good lenses.

I've really liked the 50F1.8STM and it's interesting that it out performs the 1.4 at 1.8 onwards. The 1.4 has only one advantage and it's not sharpness. My 50 is a 70 year old Pentacon f1.8 (the multi-coated version). It has a lot of 'soul'. I also like that Canon include ED glass in the budget 55/250STM. I still haven't had any CA in my shots from that lens. Enjoy your vids mate. Cheers - Trevor

Vintage! These are modern to many of us, sonny.😊 I find myself reaching for my Prakticar 35mm f2.4 or 50mm f2.4 as often as my very sharp, modern lenses. Video makers are actually having old lenses like these rebodied and declicked for video work for the look and fine control they struggle to get from modern lenses. I find that Topaz AI can also enhances the files really well if you want to. Would be interested to see you making a video with a real vintage lens. Beware, you may get bitten by the bug!
