A little side note, I would strongly suggest putting the camera into airplane mode overnight as the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth remain on and drain the battery fast. Since those remain on, you can review photos and video on your phone without turning the camera on. It’s a pretty cool feature to use while you’re working, however, once you’ve packed things up for the night I would definitely turn the camera to airplane mode to prevent that significant battery drain overnight. That or remove the battery and throw it on a charger. I figured this out the hard way and ended up having to stretch one battery out for an entire day of shooting since my battery in the camera died from this. Luckily, Canon is witchcraft and a single battery can last basically all day while shooting moderately often.

Finally! The R6 Mark II is the most underrated camera of the past 12 months! It's best in its class (definitely ahead of the S5II and A7IV as a hybrid), but gets no attention (even the R8 got a user guide and DXOmark testing before this much better camera). I tried the rest and got this camera and it's just amazing!

Around the 28:00 mark Jared explains the difference between RAW and JPEG. He gives a good explanation. I like to compare to film cameras. A RAW file is a the digital equivalent of a film negative. A JPEG file is the digital equivalent of a Polaroid instant print that would come out of a camera. If you are not familiar with film cameras, think of RAW and JPEG as the “before and after” of how the image is developed into a digital print for viewing or printing. The camera captures everything as RAW. When it saves as JPEG, it processes the original RAW file to a JPEG and then discards the original RAW file.

39:02 Counter intuitively, the higher the number, the cooler the tones, and the lower the number, the warmer the tones. This is due to the fact that, higher number denotes higher temperature (as in heat) and as things heat up, they start giving off visible colors starting from red to blue, hotter an item gets, bluer the light if gives off. As we tend to call blue tones "calmer" the relationship sounds inverted.

Hi Jared - good video. Here's an example of where you use auto ISO, perhaps. I shoot in Italy mostly - the sports arenas for basketball have awful light here, mostly. There are games where, I have to try to peg the speed at 1/800 or max 1/1200 and the aperture at 2.8 on my 70-200 or 24-70 zooms. Since the action is continuous, I'd rather be assured of at least 1/800 and let the iso determine if I am shooting white uniforms, dark skin, or open court reflections etc. This is also a situation where you can use the comp. setting. If you set the exposure comp to say 1/3 or 1/2 a stop, and let the ISO float, its very effective. This is how I shot the 1DX years ago, when it was the only Canon that allowed ISO auto in manual settings. What do you think?

It'll do me for the next decade or so while I get my head around all its capabilities.

Perfect time and also because I've only shot with this body once in the AF was all over the bloody place. Actually today I'm supposed to be shooting with it again but I don't really have a handle on it. Full seen eye detect is what I was hoping would work but you also have to be able to quickly switch out to single point to focus on something else. It's been a challenge so far nothing is easy as what you see in some of these videos.
@truthseeker6804 Жыл бұрын
i dont use full area autofocus as it could just jump to a face at the corner. so i use a focus box in the center, so i know when i have the subject centered hes going to be in focus not anyone to the sides. you can try that
@simonmaduxx6777 Жыл бұрын
@@truthseeker6804 Thanks Yeah I've tried it only in practice but not in a real shooting environment yet. It's a lot of buttons and a lot of settings to get it all together so eventually I will.

@Simon, due to weddings and kids baseball/softball where people sit directly behind the fence and batter, I find 3 button back button focus to be my best option. I keep whole area tracking on AF-ON, the star is set to single point only and the right button is eye AF. I can use the whole area MOST of the time but if it jumps somewhere I don't want, I just go single point on the one I do want and if I can see the eye, I'll then hit eye af. This solved 90% of the auto focus issues for me.
@simonmaduxx6777 Жыл бұрын
@@pyrocix since I've used it so infrequently I keep forgetting how I set the buttons haven't gained the muscle memory yet. Unfortunately I haven't done a shoot with it yet to really start getting it down. I'm going to test your setup out on a creative setup tab and see what I can do with it. I'm trying to get to a place where it can find the eyes and stick with it unless I change it to a separate subject. Models and other person's standing in front of me.

Always enjoy you and your channel. A quick comment on the long exposure noise reduction is that it takes a second photo immediately after the image with the shutter closed, what in Astrophotography would be called a dark. It will have any hot pixels and also represent the thermal noise that is present and is subtracted from the image immediately - the corrected image is what is saved. It is really probably not something you can say you are correcting as easily after the fact. This is a bigger deal for astrophotography and landscape perhaps, it may not be important for the images you shoot. Anyway, thanks for your thoughts on setup for the R6m2!

42:49 Do the 'Lens Aberration Correction' options only apply to JPG so that the JPG is altered? I think it should not alter the RAW files but only toggle the metadata to let DPP know that it should apply corrections on the spot but not alter the RAW file. I cannot find any definitive source on if 'Lens Aberration Correction' alter the RAW image data like expected when shooting in JPG. Especially when Jared mentions at 43:32 lens corrections can unexpectedly crop the image in the camera. So does this mean RAW files would be affected (as well)?

Good info but a few things - Shooting JPEG does not “bake” in everything into the processing. Some things can still be undone in light room. Agreed you have less leeway if you should JPEG but then Cannon’s in-camera camera processing is so good that I suggest all the an intermediate photographer should shoot JPEG and also raw as a backup if you know what to do with them. Also the ISO setting does not change the sensitivity of the sensor. It’s a post-processing step applied to the RAW image by the camera. Also it’s “horizintal” not “horizontical”
