Good video. I have a 2012 A4 Allroad as a daily runaround car here in Australia. I bought it with 50k miles. Its done 70k now. I have had the belts done (a lot more than 300 quid here!) and it is very regularly serviced oil changed every 5000miles etc. It has the 7 speed dreaded DSG but no problems so far. I thrash it and it still does 38mpg combined. Its in its 9th year, not a rattle or squeak anywhere which considering it lives outside in up to 40 degree heat in summer and 17 in winter is quite amazing.

I have owned a A4 2ltr diesel s line for a few years now, your review was spot on. Had the clutch and flywheel replaced at £1000 with local garage. Cam belt with water pump was £750 with Audi. Had to replace all of the shocks, due to leaking. The clutch pulley on the alternator seized up which then caused the belt tensioner to rattle back and forth. Front suspension arms upper and lower can start to get noisy causing creaking noises. Front wheel bearings replaced. Air conditioning pressure switch failed. Door mirror indicator LED failed. Mileage now at 130,000. The spec of the cars is weird, I've got sat nav but only part of the postcode can be entered. To have the full postcode entry you pay for higher spec of MMI. No light in the glovebox! My Ford Cortina in the 80s had one. Overall I do enjoy driving it. The car fuel economy shows at 57mpg on my daily commute.

I just bought one of these today, a 2014 in the same colour, 2.0 tdi quattro s line automatic with 175 bhp, no leather and only the basic concert radio but it is to be our second car paired with a Touareg R line 4,2 V8 tdi which has everything, the Audi holds it´s own against the Touareg in the way it drives and the quality cabin feel but obviously no match in power. However, as a family car for us with two kids and two dogs it will work just fine, living in Sweden on a farm the Quattro will be a useful thing in wintertime. Also, I work with boats a lot and this car can tow 2.1 ton and again, the quattro will come in useful on the boat ramps for smaller boats and trailer loads but again I have a Touareg which will pull 3.5 ton if need be. I feel it was a more sensible choice after test driving a C350 AMG touring yesterday which was more fun but......

it might be a bit boring i agree, but for me this is the perfect every day car. i been driving a well maintenanced b6 avant for some years now and not one day was i disappointed owning it. you get a little bit of everything: design, build quality, space, decent performance stats and fuel consumption for the diesel models is also very good. i still like the b8 design and am probably going to buy one of these as my next car - the only problem is, i really love the b6 and it was one of THE most desirable cars to drive when i was 18 - now that i own it and customized it the way i wanted it, it is hard to just leave it behind :D guess i´ll be driving it till it breaks, which is at this point very much unlikely but hey maybe in another 300.000km :D

@stefan52184 жыл бұрын
@@diogovieira3362 for me neither the b6 or b8 are boring, but i can understand why for some people this might be the case. audi just did not take any risks with the design and wanted a car that ages well - i think that is what they do best actually. the a4 always had this kinda understatement look, it just swims in traffic and is noticed as a good looking car but it does not scream "here i am look at me" unless you drive an s4 or rs4 - but to be honest i kinda enjoy that.

Hey Matt, Love your videos! You said, that the TFSI petrol engines would bei problematic regarding the oil burning . That is just half of the truth due to the fact, that after the facelift (starting in 2012, the model you drove) there were no longer these sort of problems. The well-known 1.8 TFSI engine with either 120 or 160 HP (pre-facelift) used to tend having too high oil consumption, but the engine with 170hp was and is still much more reliable. So from this side I can definitely recommend this engine. Also the 2.0 TDIs with 163 HP have - at 400nm - much better torque than the 150 or 177hp versions. And they are even more economical. Greetings from Germany!
@bapoo3 жыл бұрын
It’s a good point, and in about 2015 Audi UK agreed to fix affected 2008-12 tfsi engines meeting certain servicing conditions. If one has been “rebuilt” by Audi under their contribution based correction/fix scheme following the US class action they are as good as, if not more reliable than the later B8.5 (2013>) ones. Make sure the tensioner and timing chain was replaced in the process too (will be on the invoice). Absolutely fabulous vehicles, utterly wipe the floor with the competition especially the Quattro, an absolute machine in the wet.

An A4 B8 Avant S-Line Quattro 2.0 170 manual here with about 10k of extras inc a lovely panoramic roof, electric seats, front and rear heating 3 zone climate. It's not as fun as the 330d I had or anywhere near as sprightly as my previous 123d but for long trips not much competes for sub £5k.

Even though the comment is a bit late, you should know the door lock issues are caused by the dirt (carbon dust) gathered in the small electric motors that lock and unlock the mechanism inside. Just a bit of cleaning (but quite a lot of disassembly and assembly required) and is good as new. About 2 hours / door. BTW: Keyless entry and keyless go is nice, I've got that stock on my car and is the next best thing after the sliced bread. And the quattro is priceless! Stability during cornering is much better, handling on snow and ice is through the roof but the downside is the fuel economy, I'd say about 0.5 to 1 extra liter of diesel/100km.

If I ever were to buy an A4, it'd be the 3.0 TDI Quattro. I don't like the barely enough themed 2.0TDI engines, and the timing chain is not that much of an issue honestly. Sure it costs a bit more than the belt to replace but the interval is much longer and you get more out of the 3.0 engine, makes the car quite different.

I think there was subtle change when Audi introduced their quite revolutionary Audi Avant popularised with their 'Vorsprung Durch Technik' Andrew Palmer ad campaign featuring little Wolfgang.

Another great video Matt - 2 things though - the car that made estates desirable was the BMW E30 325i Touring way back in 1988 And hands down the best looking estate car of the late 2000’s / early 2010’s is the Alfa 159 Sportwagon in Ti Spec. Otherwise you’re spot on - as usual 😜

Yep agree avant looks so much better than the saloon, but the 2.0TFSI is a lovely engine and mated to the dsg is hot hatch fast. Keep up the amazing work 🙌🏽

I love my Audi's always been a fan and had a few A4 & A6 Avant's but your enthusiasm really shown through for this car, so funny mate. It felt like its a car it goes and hell theres worse cars out there. very funny lol

It looks great and drives like a dream. I wish they made cars that don’t require servicing. Over here it’s so rare that no one wants it.

The A6 Avant is wonderful.

Even in the lower spec with steel wheels?
@Hustwick4 жыл бұрын
@@chrishart8548 Yes. It's comfortable, practical and frugal. Can't recall ever seeing one on steel wheels though.
@chrishart85484 жыл бұрын
@@Hustwick looks like they start at the SE model. I know a few BMW's came with steels. I thought I looked up a base model A6 2.0 diesel. It was only just over £30k and had steel wheels. Maybe I was wrong.

@@chrishart8548 Oh, mine was a 2008 (can't recall the spec) that I had up till 2018. I changed work and now do 99% city driving so switched it as I didn't need a big diesel engine estate.

Great review as always. Funny you should upload this because I have to tell you about my A3 and its "options" or should I say, lack thereof. My own Audi A3 black edition was £26k new and was a company lease originally. It has absolutely no optional extras on it at all apart from cruise control. It does NOT have any of the following: full leather or heated or power operated seats with lumbar support, power folding mirrors, automatic lights, automatic wipers, cornering fog lights, sat nav, bluetooth, USB input, parking sensors front and/or back, seat storage on back of the front seats or hill hold assist. Yet, adjusted for inflation it cost £33,000! It's insanity! Power lumbar adjustment was a £195 option on a £26k car! But nonetheless, I don't think there's much more to say about the B8 A4 that you said in this video. It's perfectly competent and does a great no-thrills job of being a great allrounder.

Thats quite right and I'm not surprised about your lack of options. Audi are famous for it
@archechme4 жыл бұрын
@@HighPeakAutos Rightly so. Not too bothered about most of that stuff. If you ever get hold of a half decent A3 from 2008-2012 please make a video. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it, especially the controversial ones haha.

Was thinking of buying one, but went for the BMW f31 . Much better auto box ,quite quick, and I think better looking, but it's all personal taste. Good video.

I can't believe what you just said about owning an RS4 Avant 😆 You are right about keeping it on the road. Discs and pads all round was £2200.00. Two new front shocks £2400.00. 2 New brake lines £350.00. I loved the car but I could not carry on paying out that sort of money. Thats now a treble on insults 😆 🤣 😂 . I have just purchased a Giullietta QV which I'm looking forward to picking up on Saturday. Keep up the great work buddy and congratulations on two years of quality reviews.
