Today we are taking a look at the Atmos Shinobi monitor and how it works with the BMPCC 6K Pro. As someone who enjoys watching reviews on camera equipment, it's exciting to show you my experience with new gear, especially for the Blackmagic. Let me know your experiences with this monitor and if you have any recommendations about alternatives in the comments below!

Anyone use the Shinobi? I want to know if it’s just me with the colour accuracy!

Nah! The colour accuracy on this monitor is terrible. I can be calibrated, but you need to purchase a special cable that costs about £90. My monitor is too warm. I still use it, but never for colour critical work. I'm currently saving for a SmallHD monitor. I've got an AC7, but i'm looking for something a little more contemporary.

Yeah you shouldn’t get a £90 just to sort the colour accuracy they just need to support BRAW more Can you let me know how the SmallHD works with you? Thank you 🙏🏻

Will do Jarod. SmallHD Monitors are more expensive, but both the build quality, and colour accuracy are far superior. I’ve had a couple, and only bought the Shinobi because it’s very light, and sits nicely on a Gimble.

Hmmm, I’m definitely getting a SmallHD or the BM assist monitors next time. But at least it doesn’t massively effect your overall work quality!

Had the Shinobi for my blackmagic 6K for a while (still have it to use with Ronin) Recently bought a Portkeys LH5P2 so it is possible to adjust camera settings trough bluetooth. They both have different image quality.

Thanks for the comment! How are you finding the Portkeys LH then? Want to get a different monitor and I’m in the market

@@jarodparkerdirector Think its great if u are looking for a monitor that can also change video settings from the camera and some other things. Loading Luts is a bit different. There is not so much storrage room inside and the way the luts are selected is sonething to get used to i gues. The battery NPF battery slot is a bit tight on mine but im using the power cable that came with the monitor so i dont need a Dummy as i had with the Shinobi. which is nice since most of the time i run a Vmount battery that powers the camera and monitor trough a Vmount plate. Last week got a Tilta Nucleus Nano. It is possible to connect the Nucleus with the Portkeys monitor and set Focus points trough the touchscreen. I need to buy the correct cable to be able to do this. I think this monitor gave me more flexibility for handheld use or shooting on a tripod.

Iam using the same setup (Bmpcc6kPro & Shinobi) and also have the same annoying yellow-greenish tint problem as well. I always wish that the built in monitor of the Bmpcc6kPro would be detachable so i could place it more on top or in front of the top handle- that would be the perfekt solution in my eyes. I realy love the built in monitor and its clarity. A thing that the shinobi can not offer. Lately i took some time to adjust the shadow-mid -highlight settings of the shinobi to match with the clair image of the built in monitor as much as possible. That made it a bit more usable because right out tha box it was very mushy on top. But of course does not fix the yellow-green issue. It was very cool to see your video about it because i remember buying the Shinobi one year ago and always beeing not that happy when i was using it but couldnt find any reviews on youtube calling out that color shift issue :-D

Ahh thank you so much! Always good to hear I’m not the only one. When you tweaked the shinobi setting to match the BM more, what were they? And did they help you at all?? Thanks 🙏🏻

@@jarodparkerdirector The Tweaking process: I just found that the built in monitor of the Bmpcc6kpro was much clearer and gives you a really good base to judge your exposure. But the Shinobi always shows very bright areas as if there completely blown out/ pure white while I still can see some details in the bright areas or highlights on my Bmpcc6kpro monitor. As mentioned the Shinobi image was (and still is compared to bmpcc monitor) very mushy and so I tried to tweak the image of the shinobi with adjusting the ,,Lift-Gamma-Gain,,- Sliders (found in the menu under DISPLAY) to match more with the image I see on my BMPCC6kPro Monitor. So this is just setting the ,,contrast ratio,, a bit different and obviously it won't solve the yellow color shift issue but makes the Shinobi a bit more usable to me in terms of judging my exposure due to seeing a much clearer and more defined image. I don't think that it makes sense to share the adjusting settings because I guess every shinobi is different but here are my settings: Lift -7 / Gamma 2.73 / Gain 1.05

I tried the shinobi, smallhd 300 dollar one, portkeys and the color accuracy is so different The only one that matched somewhat close to the backscreen was the andycine

Ahh really?? Is that the action 5 smallHD? I have the Andycine 4K and it does match up okay just has a magenta tint I feel!

@@jarodparkerdirector yeah the action 5, it has a green tint, not as bad as the shinobi but i was dissapointed with it Andy cine does but i like it more than the green tint, i found it easier to match with the andycine more than the rest
