This video is just so good! Best tutorial - if I may say so - for a loooooooong time. The technical side is greatly supported by your diagrams and explanations but the emotional side and the ”why” is explained so well too! Of course it would be interesting to see the post production of this kind of a shoot.

@@THEDPJOURNEY Thank you for the informative videos! I do have a question though. I’m currently using the GH5 and looking to upgrade to a new full-frame camera. I’m torn between the S5iix and the FX3. Do you think the extra cost for the FX3 is worth it? What are your experiences with the camera? Also, wich lights do you recommend to illuminate a scene for a Music Video outdoors in low light? Budget for the lights are around 700-800€

The amount of work you put into this video is inspiring. I didn’t love the lighting on the first shot, as it felt like there were two light sources on this one. And If the sun is the light source, and it’s coming from his back (and visible), how is that going to then come in from the side window? Personally, I would have bounced is from the right and had the talent look left, making it upstage. But then it wouldn’t have gotten the perspective you were looking for. As you mentioned, compromises one must make with only one light. The other lighting setups were absolutely spot on, and I especially loved the porch at sunset. If you show that to 100 people 99 would’ve been fooled. Excellent work!
@THEDPJOURNEY
@THEDPJOURNEY Жыл бұрын
The reason behind the first setup is simple … the sun is not like a bulb that shines on one subject, it lights your subject in a point source way, as well as the whole sky surrounding the house with ambient light. So If this was the real sun, positioned in that way, don’t you think the sky will be lit as well outside the window?. Or will it be pitch black outside with the sun being the only light that shines like a street lamp?

Truly excellent from the quality of the footage and the colour grade to the thorough and intelligible explanation. I am stuck with a Sony A7iii for the time being until I have money to upgrade my camera. What's your opinion on the image quality out of current Sony models such as the FX3 / FX6 when compared to the BMPCC6k? The look you are getting out of it here is exceptional.
@THEDPJOURNEY
@THEDPJOURNEY 8 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for the compliments, BlackMagic colour science is my personal favourite, not just comparing to SONY, but comparing to all other mirrorless out there. But BlackMagic has a lot of quirks and other issues that those other ones don’t have though.
@SenthilSukumaran
@SenthilSukumaran 8 ай бұрын
@@THEDPJOURNEY Every time I see Blackmagic footage in the hands of someone capable I am always blown away by the colour sciene and overall look of the image. You may have just made a convert out of me. Looks like I'll have to relearn everything from scratch and switch from Premiere Pro to Resolve when the time comes. In your own workflow are you using a standard conversion LUT that Blackmagic provide and applying it to the RAW footage and adding your own finishing touches? Or are you colour correcting then grading from scratch every time?

I thought it's the short side because it's the shorter side of the face that's being lit and the other bigger part is the broad side. I don't think it's the amount of space because that is the framing not lighting? I could be wrong though.

I can’t remember exactly which setting I had, but it doesn’t matter anyway, because it all depends on the balance between the light in the environment and the light that you’re using. from my experience, this is pretty compact for what it can offer in terms of wattage

Thank you man for the video is very helpful! I just want to ask about the settings you have on the camera if you had a noise in the shadows and if you are using Noise Redaction?

I set the ISO at 1250 all around, and yes I did have noise, but didn't remove it

The black levels are crashing way too much on each shot. I guess bouncing a fill or adding one more light to balance would prevent it from crashing the blacks.
