HX stomp is still the best overall pedal, love mine and I added an HX Effects and now that combo is more powerful and portable than the full Helix

I've been using a boss SY-1000 for a couple months now, and I've just ordered an HX stomp to see if I'll like it. Yes, I love the sounds of the boss (same 1000 series algos + fun synth sounds), but what I seriously dislike about boss is the lack of support for their digital products. From what I'm aware, boss hasn't released drivers/software for any of the boss 1000 series products for macos for a couple generations, especially for a 'flagship' device. I can't use my boss as an audio interface or to edit presets, something important especially for the SY series imo. I don't care how old the line-6 stuff is. Their continued dedicated support and updates (which make a noticeable improvement) definitely makes me feel like it's much younger than what it actually is. In fact, my current view is that it's more relevant than many other products, and it's honestly a compromise that I'm willing to make, although I'm sure the sounds from the HX algorithm will be more than enough. I kinda wish I invested in the helix stuff rather than boss, especially since the lack of support doesn't really want to make me support them.

The discount to helix native plugin also makes this great value for mac/pc owners. My only worry is that the hardware is likely due an update in the next couple years.

Good stuff, I think a lot of newer guitarist have a bias against line 6 since most of them had some variation of the line 6 spider and it left the impression they must only make introductory level equipment. Can't count out people that don't know how to fiddle with the settings either tho. I haven't had a ton of hands on experience with multi-fx besides the boss me-25, some cheap older zoom, and a little time with the fender mustang floor unit. But I would 100% get one of these if I wasn't already planning on getting fractal audio systems FM9 turbo

I'm looking at upgrading my pod go. I'd really like to be able to run multiple amps/cabs at the same time with a more portable unit like this. As of now, I'm usually hit with DSP limitations on the pod go after a compressor, delay, and dynamic reverb, depending on what amp I'm using. I'd like to be able to build out a pedalboard in the future and add more pedals (Chase bliss, Hologram microcosm etc...), as well as using it as an effects unit for any amps I get in the future. However, those are dreams for pretty far in the future. As of now, whatever I upgrade to would be my main workhorse for quite a while. If Line 6 had a smaller helix with heft amounts of DSP I'd probably go with that in a heartbeat. Since DSP limitations on the HX stomp are pretty similar to the pod go, I'm leaning towards Neural DSP.

I think the Neural sounds great! It is just in a very different price bracket from the Stomp. If you are thinking that down the road you will be taking a lot of the work load out of the stomp then I would still consider it for what you are wanting. You can't really go wrong either way though!

Love my HX stomp, but have always had issues with light breakup, never liked those tones, currently I’ve been using a tone x thru the loop of the stomp and the stomp for all my effects.

That’s fair! I think the Timmy emulation is pretty good for lighter gain stuff, but I don’t think I can be a little lacking in that area.

@@hunterstrasser I enjoy my podgo (same effects units as Hx Stomp) but none of the distortions, light or heavy work for me. Thankfully, I'm easily pleased by a Tube Screamer out front. Might switch to something like a Morning Glory.

Personaly I've always prefered the GT1000 Core in this catagory, I love my Helix but for the smaller form factor version I think having the full DPS in the Core gives me more options. But I know that a lot of people like the Stomp so its subjective and just my opinion. However if I had the choice betweek a Stomp and a Tonex I'd get the Stomp every time, it's far more versatile and in the mix no one in the audiance is going to care what gear you have :)

I think it depends on how you are planning to use it! If you are going to be pairing this with other things then I think the stomp is great. If you are going to use it purely by itself and plan to be changing sounds a lot during a song / set then I might go with the XL.

I just ordered a Little Robbie Pilot pedal. Looks like it’s a nice way to expand the Stomp more towards an XL while still staying small. And leave it behind if I want to stay tiny. I love the size of the Stomp. And it’s great for recording. Perfect travel companion.

Great video. Love the HX Stomp. I don’t like mine as much into my tube amps as my Quilter solid state (uses a PA speaker) but you’re getting very nice tones straight into the Carr. Anything you’re paying attention to there…?

Thanks for checking the video out! I don't really have anything specific that I change for Tube amps vs solid state. I will make adjustments for each individual gigs depending on the gear and the room usually.

I'll take my Zoom G3x any time over an HX Stomp. For my personal taste HX Stomp and Helix sound cold thin fizzy and uninspired whereas Zoom sounds warm and thick.Of course its all personal taste in the end.just my 2 cent
