Ever since hearing that Tombow would be making alcohol markers, I have been patiently waiting for their release. Well Tombow was kind enough to send me some of these new ABTpro markers and I wanted to quickly share with you my first impressions! Specifically, should you buy them? And how do they compare to Copics?
Their Dual Brush Pens are some of my favorite water-based markers-I love the slender shape, the colors and of course their amazing Japanese brush nib! I was so happy to see that the ABTpro alcohol markers continue these features. They are so much fun to draw, hand-letter and color with.
The only downside I found is that the cost of these markers may be a deterrent to me being able to afford the full set-especially considering that they're in the same ballpark price-wise as Copic and Prismacolor alcohol-based markers. My hope is that in the future they will consider making replaceable nibs and refillable ink barrels-this, combined with the form factor, colors and beautiful brush nib would put them at the very top of my list!

Thank you so much for all your hard work in bringing us this wonderful reviews! Through rain or shine!😁👍 I love your sense of humor and you are a beautiful lady! I have some of these Tombows and while they are nice and Tombow is a fantastic brand, I am a Copic girl and already own most of them, so doesn't make sense for me to start a new collection. Special thanks to Steve and the smell test! Steve's nose knows!😆

I have had the Tombow PRO marker for awhile. Three 12-pack, the Basic, Landscape and Pastell. My first reaction was the leakage of ink. I have them all replased by my store. Here in Sweden a single marker costs $5,75 and in the 12 -pack $4,98. I'm not sold yet but I'm working on them. I still like my Winsor & Newton ProMarker/BrushMarker more. (Posted a rewiew on FB a few months back of the Tombow's) Thank you for the rewiew and it's good to have you back.

First off, thank you so much for this review! The thunder and rain was a fun dramatic twist on a new product impression lol! You hit the nail on there head about the cost. I’m also wondering how much ink these markers have. If they come out with refills and replaceable nibs, these could easily become favorites for me. I was super excited about these as... after much trial and error, I finally decided that alcohol markers are one of the mediums that match my preferences for coloring. I also like the idea of them for portability purposes. I can fit my original Tombows into a pencil case and was excited about doing the same with their ABTs. I will wait until I know if they have refills and replaceable nibs and until I find them at a much more reasonable price before I make any purchases.

I first found them on Cultpens.com a few months ago. They are actually cheaper there (about $4.t0) and although they come all the way from across the pond in England, they come quickly and you don't have to pay for shipping and handling if you buy above a certain amount (which is easy to do there!) Anyways, so happy you are back! Thanks for the lovely review!

Hi both You run a great channel. I had bought every Tombow set of the water based ones. I had nothing but issues with them. Many of them dried up within 3 months, and I made sure to store them correctly as well. I gave them away, the ones that had not dried up. I agree with you, alcohol markers are the better choice. Though I have also found the Winsor & Newton Pro alcohol markers dry up quickly as well. I have had good results with Prismacolor Premier and another brand called Touch New sketch marker. And the Touch New brand also will take Copic nibs and are able to refill them with Copic ink. The Touch New have the same shell as the Copics. Touch New are very inexpensive and have over 100 colors including a really nice skin tone and grey set as well. They are found on Amazon. I hope you both have a good weekend. And thank you to Steves nose...LOL

So glad you hav3 step out of your confront zone and are traveling! I enjoy all the information you bring us , I just started watching you a while back . I think this summer . Maybe you will go or come to my state and I don’t know if you met and greet people but it would be nice to meet you & your husband make a great team. I have been coloring for a while not to much have my prisma 150 have always use them , but now I have my eyes on the faber castell 😊. Also I wanted to ask you there is so much out there for markers that ( I am confused 🤷‍♀️)? Please help I don’t know which one to buy . I would like one that blends nicely doesn’t streak , I have try staedtler double end but they have dry out but maybe I have had too long. Staedtler find liner triplus haven’t dry out on me but are a lot smaller for small hard to reach . Any recommendations I would appreciate your knowledge. I also order so metallic water colors from an esty shop they are from a lady who makes them in her home the smell great Ned a little water to activate them they do blend well catch but I guess I really don’t know how to pick out colors but I thought I’d recommend her maybe you may want to try her I do have some sets of Coliro however you need to wait a bit let them stand in water so that they can be activated these ones don’t. I am not I Promoting her at all . But , I would love your opinion she is a lovely lady if interested I can let you know where you can see her esty shop. We like thinks that shine and give a sparkle ❇️ 😊. Did get the stardust gel pens . And a set of Pental hybrid dual metallic pens love ❤️ them but my only complain is that it didn’t have a color red at least not in my set . Thank you again for all you do. ❤️😊❤️

So many great markers to try out there. We have talked at length about this very topic on many occasions because there are so many factors...price, type, nib size, system, number of colors, availability, your coloring preference, etc. Sounds like you have been trying a lot of small nibbed markers. I go for brush nibs and I am a fan of alcohol based markers because I can get great blends and less streaking. But....there is another world of amazing waterbased markers too. So, I recommend the Blick Studio Brush tip alcohol markers as a great system supported mid range cost marker. I hope that helps a little.

Like you, I have Tombow's water-based markers that are very good for painting letters as well as drawings. I have few markers. of the copi markers in my country, and they are very expensive for me. They just gave me the Tombow oil-based markers, which are perfect for me, because I don't paint illustrations and I don't paint any kind of drawings and also alcohol and brush tip markers, I have the professional markers from the Prismacolor brand that make faces. and I have other brands that sell in my country

I first saw these markers on Chen Long Chung's Instagram. They put only "Tombow Markers" on the description, so I was confused on why the barrel is white, because I'm pretty sure my Tombow markers have black barrel, and I wondered how those water-based markers are not patchy and blend so well. Glad I found your video 😂 now I'm not confused anymore ahaha

Hi Jennifer! Have you ever tried using small circles with alcohol based markers when you're colouring in a colouring book or on self printed colouring pages, for an even, not streaky appearance, And shading any needed areas as you go by adding more layers to those needed areas. All while the ink is still wet? I plan to try if myself as soon as my husband can dig out my TwinTouch alcohol brush markers.
@ColoringBliss
@ColoringBliss 4 жыл бұрын
I have tried this method with mixed results. For me it often comes down to the situation and the texture I am trying to achieve. For curly hair or fur and sometimes fabric textures, the circular method can be very effective.

Great review! Love the thunder and rains sounds on the roof. Just a small quibble, Prismacolor markers are not refillable and do not have replaceable nibs. I double-checked and there is no mention of it on their website. That stinks considering the price. Winsor & Newton are the same.

Yeah...I was thinking about that after I uploaded it. I know my train of thought was lumping all the high end markers into one group and I know I had been thinking about how juicy the Prismacolor markers are. I think that is how I accidentally grouped those 2 brands together as I was talking.

I try to use my alcohol markers in a well ventilated room. It helps a lot. Some markers do have a little more mild smell but all alcohol markers stink in my opinion. Have you tried the Faber-Castell Pitt pens? They are made of Indian ink which is permanent AND lightfast. I recently did a video about Faber-Castell. The Pitt pens have almost no smell. I haven’t colored much with them yet. So far...they seem a little streaky, but we shall see.

Markers in general are a good art medium for people with hand pain. Like Melinda said, I have also had to retrain myself to hold my coloring tools correctly to not cause more pain. I suggest going to an art store and holding different shaped markers in your hand to see what feels best. Maybe a big chubby marker will be better for you. Or maybe the slim body style of the new Tombow is better.
