Great review, I already own the game with about 8 hours of play and pretty much agree with everything you say. This game is a very solid start. My main negative is crash effects, I would like to see more damage. (I have yet to see a flip) Also yellow flags, who ever causes the yellow flag needs to go to the rear including users. I can spin but as long as I'm a little ahead of the guy behind me I stay in the same position.

Great review, I agree with a lot of what you said. I know im late but here is my 2cents. My first gripe is exactly what you said which is the AI difficulty. I am a lifelong race car driver and racing video game player and can always play other games on max settings. Yet this game I find it hard to compete on even medium difficulty let alone hard and legend. I was fine with it at first but even after maxing out my 410 I still cannot compete. Who came up with these difficulties? Is there someone in the studio that can realistically win races on Legend?? And as far as difficulty goes, there should always be an incentive to increase the difficulty. Less assists and harder opponents should mean more cash, XP, fans, sponsorships etc. Without any reason to play on hard then whats the point? In my opinion the best way to handle difficulty should be dynamic game play itself. The career should have a set difficulty you can’t change and only in quick race you can adjust it. Early game the opponents should be slow but not easy and top 5 should always be bad fast and the bigger events should have faster drivers. In the beginning you should struggle but eventually with upgrades and practice you start running top 10/ top 5. As you progress through the season and divisions the drivers should get better, but so will you. That way it’s realistic and as you naturally get faster, you can naturally start running towards the front, but then the big showcase races are treated like they would be in real life and are much harder.. And that way you cant just lower the difficulty to easy to win and then raise it up after you’ve done some upgrades. All of this literally turns the game into a situation where: “easy is too easy to be fun but hard too hard to beat, I could just raise the difficulty as I get better but why put myself at a disadvantage if I don’t get additional rewards for it? upgrading my car should be what allows to win more races but why do that when I can just keep the difficulty down to win instead” just gives you no good options to choose from. The other hilariously stupid thing about the AI is that they drive perfectly always. They don’t get into wrecks of their own, they dont get tangled up with lapped cars, heck they dont even take any damage. You could run into a car, have it hurt your car and slow you down yet their car didn’t feel a thing. Theres been way too many races where I was doing well but got tangled with a lapped car and it damaged my car. Then the rest of the feild starts flying by me cus somehow in a 30 lap race I am the only one that received any damage at all and all 20 other drivers are still performing at absolute max performance all the way up till the last second. Not realistic. The AI is just flat hard to race against because this game suffers from the fact that AI isn’t just fast but fast in all the wrong places. They are designed to run a certain lap time regardless of how exactly they do it. They are slow down the straight away but then have the ability to get an insane boost off the corner and have more acceleration than you do even with a maxed car. Then they slow way down at the end of the straight away to make their lap times right. Another big one is that I really like the “simulate race” feature as its nice to skip a few races when your running a frickin 34 race season. But also because it adds a “team manager ” aspect to the career, especially when you move up divisions and want to keep participating in the lower classes. The major problem with this is that by simulating the race you almost always FINISH DEAD FLIPPING LAST. Even when you max out your upgrades, put the AI on easy and are seconds ahead of the competition when you drive. You will still get completely wiped by simulating. This completely ruins the “team management” aspect of it because I thought that over time with better upgrades, your simulation should perform better and better and you should end up being able to manage multiple successful teams while also driving the racecar or track of your choice for that weekend. Instead, it turns it into “OK I’ll just lose all my (fully upgraded) midget races because I chose simulate those while I focus on the 410 season.” I mean literally the “simulate race” button should literally just be a “forfeit this race” button cus thats all it really is. Theres more but those are some of my main points.

I am in TQ Midget Season 4 and I have 3 star Tiers, Suspension, and Chassis - I am still running the top 1 star engine and I am doing much better than I did with all 1 star parts, just putting that out and hopefully when I complete Season 4 I will have the top 3 star engine. I will then work on tuning the car to see if I can get additional better finishes. This is an awesome game and I am pumped to see what the future holds.

I'm 50 years old and a gamer. The worst games in the world were the 2 PS2 sprint car games that came out after the '02 game. (Which is the greatest of all time. Yes, that one needed some tweaking too, in my opinion.) Road to Knoxville and the other one that was exactly the same. I refuse to play those 2 games just because the graphics make them both nothing but trash.

Mira Does Nothing Don’t get me wrong, it’s a decent first entry for a sub-genre that is absent from racing sims. And because it’s basically a copy/paste version of Nascar Heat 4, in regards to UI and game physics, it’s very easy to pick up and play if you already have that title. I bought it and the price is good for what it initially offers and hopefully more depth will come with future development.

For $30 it's a good game but the graphics are not top quality especially the scenery around the track , this game needs real sprint car tracks like Eldora, Knoxville, Williams Grove , etc the game play is fun but it's far from realistic like no dirt on the helmet visors[ tear offs ] and crash damage physics . Its nice to see a sprint car game on the consoles again and its a improvement over the old xbox 360 sprint car game from 2010 . I'd give it a 7or 8 out of 10 . it's not perfect but it's fun for dirt car racing fans .

It sounds like you and I would have have a great time racing each other. The negatives you covered I would add one thing though you covered it. The difference in performance between the career mode and the others is a downer. I am not playing the career now in protest. I really enjoy being able to go fast and win races if possible. In the career mode it is almost impossible to win and that feeling of "hauling ass" is just not there. Would I buy it had I known this " hell yes". I thought the " road to Knoxville" was good and then along came this gem. Awesome comes to my lips! I love running fast and beating Tony by 4 seconds in a race hehe!. I will get with the career again but they need to fix that aspect of the game. It sounds like you know dirt tracks,how different they can be one weekend to the next. Soooo true. That is one of the challenges of dirt track racing, and there are many. Thanks for the review it lets me know I'm not crazy. That change in the career mode really got me. Just from watching I know its pretty good, I can't wait till the 6th for when it releases outside of the US. TQ's are like the karts of dirt racing, you have to keep them smooth and straight. Only when the track has the right amount of grip, or you've found the outside line (which is pretty rare for TQ's) is when it's better to slide the car a little bit. When it's slimy is really the only time where people will be sliding. So the game looks really good from that standpoint Wingless sprints are ass out to the wall and throttle control, so that's something they would develop. And winged sprints are more like the TQ. They have huge amounts of downforce so it is stupid to make them do big slides on faster tracks (really uncontrollable and slow), but you can find speed by pitching it in on slower tracks. So again that's just more stuff they can develop for the next game or a future update.

Licensed tracks cost money. If they had a lot of those tracks the game wouldve cost $60 rather than $30. Eldora I'm sure is licensed to EASports for the NASCAR games so that may have been a legal issue there.

I purchased this game because I had flashbacks to Dirt to Daytona. Graphically speaking, it’s really not good.. Gameplay is OK, but there’s an awful lot of shortcomings this game has. I’ll play the game when I get bored but I don’t recommend it. iRacing does it better.

The cars dont get dirt on them, there is no tear offs, the tracks dont get worn down from the tires and no top line with cushion. The damage is unrealistic. I think this game is a sell out they made two tracks with right turns that just dont make sense to me and makes me so angry. 2010 woo on 360 had better graphics. Now its definitely worth 30 dollars I even bought the 2 dlc packs. But please update just make the cars dirty and maybe add late models. Midget winged sprint cars would be amazing. Lmk if you think I'm right.

one thing that wasn't mentioned: the sounds are kinda sorta ridiculous - none of the cars sound like any kind of car, let alone like sprint cars or midgets, and that announcer is every bit as annoying as the announcer in Grand Prix Rock 'n Racing. Overall I do like the game though, I'm not afraid to refund games but I'm definitely keeping this one.

One thing about those Thunder Series games, my engines got so powerful, certain tracks I'd literally have to half throttle it or I'm kissing my engine goodbye. I dnf so many races on those games it was unreal. I can see ai adjusting itself to match your skill, idk if the game does it haven't played it. I think Dirt to Daytona done that and it was glorious.

If you are a fan of actual dirt track racing, no do not buy this game.... As someone who grew up watching TQ midget through non winged Sprint cars, I do appreciate the fact that they got the "race layout" better than nascar heat (heat races b-main etc) However, it is completely unrealistic. THIS IS OPEN WHEEL RACING, you should not be able to SLAM into the wall full speed, with no damage, you should not be able to SLAM into your fellow drivers, without penalty... It's just a re-skinned NASCAR heat

I'm in my 5th season, 4 in TQs, 2nd in 305s, 1st in All-Stars. The career AI is SIGNIFICANTLY harder than quick race. Tonight was the first time I tried quick race and I lapped the field in a 410. Was easily passing on the outside. I have all settings on "skilled", which is hard AI and hard Driving assists. I have finished as high as 2nd in the tq and 5th in the 305, but that was with +10 parts across the board. I have slowly gotten better and more consistent though, which is encouraging and representative of a "career". It's not a perfect game, but if you can get the setup right, it makes the racing far more enjoyable.

So a recent discovery is there’s actually 3 tiers of upgrades to the cars. Doesn’t change how satisfying of a career mode this game has. After playing other career modes and getting to winning so easily it’s so fun to constantly be challenged.

@@RacingNationTV Right now my TQ and 305 are +40/40 on mods, and my 410 is +48 out of 50. Are there tiers of upgrades above that? I've been thinking that is why career mode is so hard, eventually you may be offered a ride with a team that has better stuff, or somehow can get better upgrades later? Speculation, let me know, I'm curious. The career mode is one of those things where if your not a sprint car/dirt fan the difficulty might be a turnoff, I think it's easily the best part of the game. With the TQ I had everything upgraded by the 2nd season and was getting frustrated thinking "why the hell am I still finishing 20th with good stuff". Slowly I did start getting better at most tracks and was consistently at least battling for top 10s with an occasional top 5. When I finished 2nd I was half sweating in my chair at the end. I think that's the benefit of the difficulty in career mode, if you enjoy this type of racing, it's fun to work at it, and really rewarding when you have a good result. Meanwhile, lapping up to 2nd place in my one 410 Quick Race was boring. I actually went there to try to work on a 410 setup since i was getting killed with the same AI/difficulty settings in career with decent parts....then I realized quick race was way easier, which looked better on the screen, but didn't really help me improve since I didn't have to be as consistently fast to get the result.

The ps2 ratbag game blows this away sadly. The top wings look way to small and throws the look of the car off alot. The handling of the cars are trash and i mean trash. The ps2 ratbag game U could set the car up and make it look like real life the way the car would go around the track was so good i could make the car look like it was on a rail literally on this i have spent the whole time trying to set the car up and with all my experience with sprint cars i should be able to twwek the car to make it better and all i can say is its impossible to set the car up to be great right now. The game has potential so maybe there is hope that they fix it. Last but not least its retarded and there is no excuse why ELDORA is not in this game and instead they released it with garbage tracks. Did you try the setup in the video? I can get the rear to slide out pretty well. Also the Rowdy Energy logo was first seen at the Roar. My buddies name used to be RacingNationTV and I changed the colors on his logo to use and it just happened to look familiar to Rowdy Energy’s logo. They are different however and i’m probably going to change it eventually but for this season at least I got what I got.

This is so bad. Looks like something from 2000. Sprint cars turn left to set the car then mostly right. This game is all left like NASCAR sad
