I plan on doing MHS stage 2 cams myself in the near future, along with springs, adjusters and followers, valve seals, timing, etc. However I also plan on doing all of the labor myself which will save a LOT of cash. Plus I love my old 2v. She's been good to me for a long time. If you can do the install yourself, I'd say it's totally worth it.

I thought I was on top with my 97. Had it finally driving nice after sitting for 7 years. Had a new top installed. It’s a convertible. Finally got the or h pipe and flows sounding good. Put shocks struts and subframe connectors. New tires. Was about to buy rear control arms and BANG a tree falls on it. WTF! Now I’m set back and have to buy 2 fenders and a hood. Just remember the parts you pay and put into may not be able to get back. Always wanted to do cams but I just can’t see the price for them.

Nice car, thanks for the post. I think there is a lot of value in the older mustangs, even the SN95's. For what it is, it's an affordable practical sporty car (contrasting the mustang to my C6 Z06 and sport bikes). However, on the performance side 1 liter sport bikes are the way to go, just make training a high priority and don't kill yourself. Honestly, the 550HP 6 speed Corvette feels like dog compared to the bikes, so the mustang will never be an F1 Indy car, from power or handling, and I won't even try. With acceleration, the bikes have seriously ruined things for me... People don't believe me, but if into acceleration: 490 Ibs with 180 hp is NATURAL GIDDY HIGH FUN - LIKE SKY DIVING - SCARY FAST (JUST SHARING). Nothing like it. This summers current project car is a Mustang 1998 GT 5 speed. It has been sitting in my yard for 12 years but I think its going to turn out awesome. I'm rebuilding the T45 now putting in new upgraded synchros (when new was best transmission ever - super smooth), then will be putting in a 3.73 with new internals. A bottom up restore, all new stock brakes, suspension and tires. I haven't decided what I'm doing with the 2V when I pull it out, but overall I'm going for the stock look and reliability. Make the mustang what it should have been when it was new. Any suggestions on the motor? My initial thought was ported PI heads, PI intake, and Comp Cams 262 degreed. Would slotting the pistons make an impact? The stock engine always felt too much like a truck engine. My goal is more power but make it more rev happy and matched to the 3.73 gear & T45 for daily fun drivability. Then I'm going to put some serious miles on it.
@CarGuyV83 жыл бұрын
I’m never going to get a bike because I’m afraid it will take away all the enjoyment I get out cars. As for the engine sounds like a decent setup but I wouldn’t expect much more than 280 wheel. Maybe a little more. These are good boost engines if you want more power.

I'm rebuilding the engine in my 2000, I think I will finish it at around $4500. I'll be happy if it's over 300hp at the crank.
@CarGuyV83 жыл бұрын
They’re certainly expensive. Want to know something sad in comparison to modular motors? I’m buying a top end kit for my sbc 408 ci. It’ll be around $2,500 for everything and will make around 425+ at the crank. And it’s not even that radical of a setup.

@@CarGuyV8 if I could do it again I would have Coyote swapped. I'm rebuilding every part of this car. I got it cheap, it sat for 3 years after it developed a rod knock. It's a fun project.
@smackledorfmcsween2 жыл бұрын
Bruh, for that amount you could build a high compression 2V. Pistons are $6-900, rods are about a $5-700, nsr mutha thumper cams are $870. You've already got PI heads. Or if you're a savage you'll find some 3V heads from a scrap yard and mutha thump those bitches and slap them on your 4.6. 3V heads flow 216cfm intake bone stock.
