Have any of you guys tried the Sky Stream Puck?

Yes I got Sky Stream and got some nice discounts on the various packs/plans. I like it as it is a massive improvement on what Now TV offer. As it has a lot more channels and the home screen is nicely laid out and integrated with various streaming apps like Netflix and Disneyplus. I also like the playlist function so you can save programs on Sky's cloud which means you don't need a hard drive for recording. Which means the puck can be small.

Yeah the feature are pretty cool and I like the layout I am comparing it to Apple TV, Google TV and the Firestick I think I need to do a video.

I steve a good idea to convert HDMI to digital is an Edision HDMI Mini Modulator costing between £100 and £150. This gives full 1080p providing DVB-T MPEG4. AMAZON HAS a TEchnomate TM-RF HD IR HDMI with 9v Control and HDMI loopthrough for £145. These two boxes work with Sky, Virgin, Blue Ray and PC.

yes - been waiting for it. On virgin for fast internet which sky don’t have but got stream for Sky atlantic (not available on virgin) and 4k F1. OK so far, although the playlist takes some getting used to. Too much ‘recommended’ content and not enough ‘here is your stuff’

Great video and timing Steve. Got my 3 pucks today. Only annoying thing was having to link my iPlayer, Amazon on each box separately shame it can’t sync in some way. For me not being locked into a long sky contract is a big plus.

It better be good I had Sky Q but changed over because my contract ended and I got the packages cheaper this way to save money. During a cost of living I'm saving £20 a month from the previous contract.

Great video Steve! Really keen to switch to Sky Stream from Sky Q, currently in contract and don’t mind switching to a new term. I tested Sky Glass with my sis having it and seeing this was the same interface that blow me away, so much better than Sky Q for sure! I’ve tested Now TV through BT TV and if I must say from the comments you pay for the service you get. Now TV still shows as 720p for Sky Cinema films and appear very dark, and picture isn’t as good as Sky Q and the Dolby Surround is limited and not as full range as Sky Q either. With Sky Glass and similar with Sky Stream you’ve got in the sound settings ‘Passthrough’ this is highly recommended if you have Dolby surround sound bar or Surround sound system as this will allow the puck to send to your amp or sound bar the source of the movie bitstream as it provides without the puck doing any compression: i.e Dolby Atmos or Dolby Digital 5.1. From seeing and using my sisters Sky Glass it’s incredible and wow! Plus you will notice the BBC are using Sky Glass and Sky Stream and Virgin Media for the first time, regional HD broadcasting in your area; i.e BBC One West Midlands HD!! No more red screen to switch to 101 for Standard Definition as the BBC are using the internet or (IPTV) to do local HD broadcasting instead of Satellite.

Nice video thanks. I just called Sky and compared my current Q tv package with the Stream equivalent offer, I would save £10 per month if I changed (not much saving on a big TV bill). However I'm still in contract on the Q so they can only move you over using an equivalent 18 month Q contract. If you want to take advantage of the new Stream Subscription model (rolling monthly), you need to wait until your current one ends. This is what I was told. Also worth nothing for mad Sports fans out there who watch Live events a lot... Stream will show the Live events of course, but there is a considerable streaming delay compared to Live Satellite/Freeview images being broadcast.. You could be behind mates viewing the same event in the Pub for example. Worth a mention. Sky were upfront with this too.

You can also hide the puck completely as the remote control connects via a 'Bluetooth' connection (completely automatically - no 'pairing required). The remote does have an IR transmitter on the front but that is only for telly control (on / off / volume / mute ). I was a little disappointed that you can in-fact only pair one remote to any one puck (but that isn't. a disaster). A couple of other things I found - There is no way of mixing Sky Q and Sky Stream on the same account, in the house - it's one or the other. Sky do give you a full 31 days though of using the product to decide if you want to stick with it or go back to Sky Q (their standard policy), and will send you packaging after 31 days to send back the Sky Q box, unless you tell them you want to revert to Sky Q. You can have up to six Sky Pucks around the house for multi-room (£12 month regardless of how many extras you have). For us the fully integrated platform across all services works extremely well and is preferred to the way Sky Q operated. The Playlist feature we also found to be every bit as convenient as 'Record' - I expect Sky couldn't really call it record given that it doesn't store anything locally on the puck, but it does work very well. The voice assistant works great to take you to exactly where you want to go - press and hold the button and just say 'Playlist', 'Channel 4', 'Bake Off', etc, etc and It'll take you right there. (This seemed to not work properly for the first hour or so but for some reason then became reliable - no idea why, but it now works great)

Ordered it last week with Whole Home, and got it delivered the next day. Installed it on the weekend replaced my Sky Q setup and really impressed with the picture and sound quality along with a better User Interface experience. *** Top recommendation if you have a sound bar, I've found the sound setting for 'Passthrough' to be best setting for bringing clear and original sound from the source of the programme and film. I've a Bose Sound Bar 700 and using 'Passthrough' throws the sound around the room when on this setting it's incredible! The only niggle which is happening across the board with the Sky Stream and Sky Glass remotes (basically the same remote) is that it becomes unresponsive and Sky are replacing them if you have a fault or you can use your Sky Q remote for now, but really frustrating that the moment you finishing using it or put it down and pick it back up it doesn't respond or light up. This has happened on both remotes in the Lounge and the Bedroom. Waiting for Sky to fix in the long term as their support team are aware of the fault with the Sky Stream/Glass remotes. Think i will stick with Now TV Paying £15 a month atm that includes Entertainment/Cinema and Boost (1080P and allows in 3 rooms at same time) Just priced up stream, with same (stream+cinema+multiroom) Total £53 😲😲 Ok I got my package on a promo atm, but there is that many offers via nowtv, you rarely end up paying full price anyway. Plus nowtv has the main live channels, so stream having aload of live tv channels you most likely don`t have time to watch, is a hard pill to swallow for nearly 3 times the price.

To record you need a HDMI digital converter to aerial box to broadcast the sky programme to a HD digital signal for your DVD Recorder and TV pick up on a digital signal. This over comes the puck downfall of lack of record facilities.

We looked at Sky Glass and like the idea of it but reading more about it I found that the TV itself isn't that good of an OLED screen and seeing as we'll need to replace our old Pany screen soon I'd rather get a decent OLED separately. Sky are still years behind what most of us should expect these days, i find it mind boggling that they charge extra for HD & UHD. 4K is pretty much standard for ALL tv's, so why should we be paying extra for something that is (and should be) a common standard now? This is why I refuse to go back to Sky, as they're just too dated in what they offer as 'standard', their 'basic' packages should be labelled as 'RETRO, package, with the added extra's making it just become 'standard' especially these days when there are MUCH better options out there.

Great video thanks. I got mine yesterday and have been pleased with it so far. I was curious as to how the puck knew my name within the setup. Makes me wonder if each puck is uniquely coded to each customer? I also initially found the sound and picture were out of sync which was annoying and distracting. Went into the Pucks settings and under audio i noted it was sent to PCM. I switched to Auto and this resolved the issue. Anyway still getting use to it but so far so good.

Nice review, I’m interested in the puck but we do use the recording function on sky q quite a bit. I know you can kind of record and it’s played from the cloud but I heard you have to pay extra to fast forward the adverts?

Is a playlist not a record system like on Sky Q, so it will launch the app to play it, if it is ITV and so on you will have to suffer the adverts and unless you subscribe to the ITV premuim.

I've used NowTV which has the advantage of being available on other streaming devices and can be considerably cheaper if it's just sports that you want. I can see the attraction of the streaming box if you have no working TV aerial or are unable to have satellite installed. NowTV gives you most of the programming and the flexibility. Its a shame that NowTV doesn't currently have the option for UHD 4k streams on the sports channels.

Well I only just got it so I will do a full full this week once I have played with it all but so far I am very impressed even the remote has a back light. But the TV and everything is all in UHD and so far been really good I have also connected all my apps to it and no problems at all.

The sky go you only have if you have sky q and sky stream multi-room for it to work on Apple TV 📺 which then is a bit pointless unless a family member has it and gives it to you.

I do wish more of the ‘watch from start’ was built into the standard UI. channel 4/BBC for instance launch off into their app for playback. Not ideal but not a big issue. I do wish the playlist was better at prioritising the upcoming shows about to broadcast (or the most recently recorded ones) - the order seems almost random sometimes

This would be o use to me. No record function for starters. Also, I watch a lot of movies, but they are seldom the ones being shown on Sky Channels, at the time i want to watch a movie. They are usually movies i have recorded here and there or movies i download from Sky Cinema selection

There is a plus button that you use and that put it on you watch list on the sky servers so a very similar thing however I don’t think it stays forever but I will do a full review and keep you posted.

There are still differences in sound quality between Free Spotify and Spotify Premium: with Free Spotify, the maximum bitrate you can stream at is 128kbps on the web player and 160kbps on the mobile and desktop apps, whereas Spotify Premium affords you 256kbps on the web player and 320kbps streaming on desktop.

As I understand you just press plus button on remote and all future programmes you want to record get uploaded to sky servers so no onboard storage correct but channels can be set to view anytime at later stage

Yeah this is my point people want to watch TV when they want to watch it. I can’t remember the last time I recorded something. The size difference is amazing however you need a solid broadband because if your line goes down you have no TV unless you have an Ariel of course.

Watching Sky Sports 1 on the Sky Stream the picture quality is far superior to watching Sky Sports 1 on a Virgin Box, both signals come through broad band, I would definitely go for the Sky Stream.

Surely there is a version with a hard drive on the way. Why does it follow, that if you don't have a dish, then you don't require recording? They should have at least offered up a USB port so you could add a stick or hard drive yourself. I would have really gone for this because the I'd really like 4K in each room, which Sky Q doesn't offer, but I love recording just too much.

FYI: I lost internet for a few days, and my Sky Q Box was USELESS!! It’s amazing how much the Q Box relies on the internet. That removes one of the issues with Sky Stream.

I have both sky stream and virgin stream... Sky is more expensive but much better hd quality. Although its not really a 30 day contract as if you stop subscribing it stops working where as virgins still works as freeview box with apps etc... Virgins prices are like half what sky are charging but the picture quality isnt as good as skys

When Sky stream and glass has no broadband or WiFi, you can watch Live TV and Radio channels from your TV transmitter through the Freeview app on your TV through this Ariel’s

I think a lot will but many will be unable to due to internet speeds being very low or unstable in a fair few areas, it doesn't bode well for freesat users either as a portion of the channels currently used are from sky services and not to mention the many installation engineers will not be needed.

I have now with basic sky channels and movie I was thinking of getting the puck is their a difference between the channels ? Do you get more channels ? I know you can get Internet with it too I pay £ 46 for ee broadband just the broadband would it be worth to swap ?

No I think it’s the same channel wise I am going through it all to give a full review for you all and my detailed honest opinion. So far so good for me the UHD quality is really good however the plus button for playlist seems a bit different.

Well it works over the internet but you do need an account with Sky for it to work.

No absolutely not. Ditched Sky over 8 years ago no regrets, saved a fortune. Had been with them since they started & refused me a discount whilst churning them out to new customers, will never get another penny from me. Kodi & IPTV all the way 👍

IPTV is good 👍 but in the UK is a grey place because of the BBC licensing that blocks it so I believe. But totally get your point.

These Kodi IPTV boxes streams will drop out soon as the viewing cards that it uses decrease and people switch off from using the satellite with Sky viewing cards to Sky Stream it’s the new way broadcasters and stop the hacking on their viewing card NDS system it uses to illegally broadcast on the internet Sky channels. Sky have said the licence contract with Astra satellite that look after and broadcast Sky on its satellites will phased out by 2030. This means support for customers with and still have Sky+, Sky HD and Sky Q will need to switch to Sky Stream eventually.

Actually no Disney was annually I got it for free for a review. Apple TV come with my wife’s EE smart benefit. Much if kit I got through reviews speaking to PR departments saying I am doing a video.

Shame you did not review playlists which are the replacement for recording. Is the main reason people are not switching apart from the poor quality of sky glass. I had sky glass for four weeks and gave it back. Playlists are shocking and sky really did not think about the user experience at all!! They should have designed the playlist system with cloud storage. Then you could record to your cloud storage and stream at your convenience. As you said, sky stream is just a sky puck you get when you buy sky glass. We had lots of problems with the pucks. They would crash. They wouldn’t switch on or wake up. And the remotes would not work. I think I’ll wait for the next major software update and see if sky address the massive design issues in their software.

Yeah the thing I like about Sky stream is how well the menu system has been put together it’s so easy to find what you want to watch but also find new stuff. Apple does something similar but not as good so my comparison is going to be interesting
