This resonates with me a lot. I recently moved into a suburban neighborhood next to a middle school and I've gotten a lot of people come to my house. It's usually 13 year old kids but that doesn't really make it any better. It just makes me uncomfortable that people think it's okay to come knocking on my door while I'm just trying to relax in my house. But I got a security camera which makes me feel better :)

+Carlos Dyonisio, Yeah but here's the thing though, sometimes those people we call crazy, are just people who happen to be Autistic (half of the time that is), an the majority of Autistic people pose no threat, I have a similar story to Boogie (obviously not as scary) but I did meet a friend of a friend as I was coming out of a Supermarket (quite late at night) who had been following all my posts on Facebook's (before I made them private) and he scared the shit out of me, and he was asking me about very specific things that I had said on Facebook (as they related to people who knew). I later found out (through friends) that he has Autism, and because it's so hard for him to communicate, he will go from one Facebook page to another trying to find friends (and as it turned out at one point he had tried to add me, but I probably didn't accept his request as I wouldn't have known him at that point). Yes I was in Public, Yes he was a friend of a friend, but I could of called him crazy, I could have knocked him flat on his backside, but all he wanted to do was make a friend, in no way did he get a pass for being Autistic, as I was very assertive with him and explained why I was uncomfortable, and I have a good idea that the guy at Boogie's door was Autistic too. So we shouldn't be so quick to judge people.

Its awesome that Boogie is willing to meet people outside of the home in his community, but people need to understand that Boogie is a "Celebrity" and people get awe struck when they find out where he lives and thinks that it is ok to just come and meet him. People react this way often to most KZbinrs they really like. But it is completely the WRONG thing to do. Respect a person's privacy and don't just show up at their front door. At the very least, you need to get their permission. But your best chance of meeting your favorite KZbinr will most likely be at a convention. You weren't and aren't wrong at all. I was part of an unrelated group (theater - live cast) out here in Az. I personally was recognized out in public on several occasions. Which, like you, in public was not a problem. One particular night however, a group of teenagers that had been kicked out (for one reason or another) had followed me home around 2-3am. They threatened me and surrounded me until i called the cast producer to let them back in. Though nothing came of it as far as court or restraining orders it was very traumatic to say the least. Also the reason i never leave home without my .45 and have more than one firearm in my house. It took me almost 2 years to get over not feeling anxious or apprehensive about opening my door to anyone. It's NEVER cool to show up like that.

Yes, I think it all falls into the category of the decline of common decency and the rise of people feeling entitled. Anyone who has been on the internet long enough to remember the beginning of "Eternal September" will remember when the death of decency and common sense on the internet began, and we feel even worse as we know how the internet was before it started. For those to young to remember it, or simply that weren't into computers long enough to have known about it, it used to be that most used first got on the internet when they went to college, so each Sept as a new freshman class came in there would be an influx of new users on the internet, but they were greatly outnumbered by established user, so for the first few weeks things would become a bit hectic and uncivilized (although nothing like today) as the new users got their first taste of the "anonymity of the internet" but the established users would instruct the new people in basic net etiquette, get them in line and things would settle down as they assimilated into the community, and anything could be discussed in a civil and respectful manner, be it politics, religion or anything else. Sure there were dark areas, and some chat rooms were full or rude and obnoxious people, but they were mostly kept to isolated pockets, and if they strayed out into the more polite areas there were often ways skilled users could sort of spank them (let's just say that software was far less secured back then, so if someone came into a civil channel with the idea of causing trouble there were ways they could be dealt with.) Then in 93 AOL started offering internet access, so where it used to be that to be on the net you really had to have some computer hardware/software knowledge, suddenly anyone could get on the internet by clicking a single button, and the massive influx of people overwhelmed those trying to keep the peace, and while it's become a wonderful tool, it's also become the current shit show that it is. God I miss the pre-1993 internet, sure there have been massive improvements and it's far more advanced then even we could have imaged, but sometimes I think I would be willing to give all that up to return to the time when things were civil and you could have rational discussions with people with opposing views.

Interesting thing, I saw awhile back ago that our brain reacts the same to television characters we see frequently as it does to our actual friends. So while we know the difference between our good friend from high school and the fictional guy on TV, our brains do not. At least not the deeper parts out of our control. So I guess it would make sense for some people to have a harder time with that line. They see your videos a lot, their brain already sees you as a friend, and you're a real person. I could randomly show up at the door of the best man in my wedding, and I know I'd be greeted with a huge smile and a hug, and probably a beer. So perhaps some people, not quite realizing that you aren't at that same point, might expect the same thing. Doesn't make it less worrisome, I'm sure. Good on you for talking about this, probably an odd subject to have to tackle, but if no one tells them it's not OK, what's to stop them? Everyone needs privacy. I hope no one else shows up uninvited.

I think it's a sign of the times. First, all this information (like how to find someone) is now available at your fingertips online. And second, by watching youtube videos (or movies, tv gossip news, etc, it applies everywhere) a person can begin to develop a connection and rapport with someone that doesn't really exist. So they go into meeting boogie or with a higher level of presumed familiarity, while to boogie its (rightfully) a random stranger off the street that has shown up at his house. You don't need to have anxiety issues to get concerned when random strangers start showing up at your house. If he's getting death threats, well maybe he should look at better security. It sucks to have to do, but that's one of the downsides of being a celebrity, you attract the attention of people both good and bad.

People need to remember that, from Boogie's perception, most of his audience are strangers. I feel that we tend to break those barriers we have with rock stars and movie stars compared to a well known media person. Because rock stars and movie stars are not talking directly to us on a daily base, especially on streams were streamers even respond back to us. You don't get that same experience at a concert while the singer is performing. lol So we get the feeling as a viewer that we are already friends, even though that popular streamer may not know us, we tend to forget that because we feel we know them and we don't feel as distant. Ellie and Jared, a few months back, had a security breach and people showed up to their home. Scary as adults but they have tiny little boys living there. You would think that people would know boundaries and have respect for them. I don't show up to people's houses that I am friends with. I lived with parents who were hoarders for most of my teen and college years. You never know what's behind closed doors and I would have "died" if someone showed up unannounced to my door. I would never want to put someone else in that position. I completely understand why you don't want viewers coming to your home. You show what you want people to see otherwise the rest of your life is private. Children who have too much time on their hands and parents who don't know any better that will take them there. Matthias and Amanda have had to address it (and she was even pregnant at the time). JackSepticEye has had it happen. It is quite often kids who have figured out how to triangulate locations or figure it out based on photos, and parents either are clueless and think it is normal or are the sort that give their kids anything they want. There are some just straight up adult sociopath types that do it too. But from most the videos I've seen of youtubers addressing this, it is most often kids whose parents haven't properly taught them boundaries because these parents probably don't understand themselves. This is the same people who end up stalking celebs and are on the fanatical side of being a fan.

Yeah it's a crazy thought but some people just don't process reality correctly. KZbin and podcasts often come across in a conversational tone. To those who are "a little off" they get the impression that they really know the KZbinr personally, and to some degree that's true, but you can't lose sight of the fact that while you might know them, THEY DON'T KNOW YOU. No matter how much they might feel like a friend, you're still a stranger to them. That's not to say that they dislike you, but you cannot expect someone to just welcome a stranger showing up at their home. Respect their privacy and engage with them in the ways that they have setup: comments on videos, in chats, or at conventions.

Unfortunately, not everybody grew up with those norms. Some people are just naturally socially oblivious, some people might have had difficult upbringings and never learned these sorts of things. Sometimes, it's because somebody emigrated from a culture where it's just a perfectly normal thing to show up at someone's door. My point is, feel free to be a little freaked out if something like that happens to you, but it's probably better to try to diffuse a situation involving someone you know absolutely nothing about, because it might not be common sense to them. And unlike what many of the commenters here seem to believe, I don't think that it's worth shooting someone in the face over this.
