I feel like I've watched this video before on your channel, but that's not a problem. This discussion and information needs to be out there for sure. Going to favorite this in case some arguments come up about which is best.

I've talked about it in similar fashion, but I made this one fresh to discuss it more directly.

As a customizer/modifier of aftermarket accessories, I prefer soldering especially outside the cabin area. I would consider crimping when testing or inside the cabin. I prefer POSI TAPS which make quick connections and are very reliable. Stay away from Vampire connectors which can be problematic.

I never use posi taps or anything of the sort. I'd rather put a plug on

I like using the solder seal connectors with a heat gun.

I always solder, and I ONLY do double layer Britannia joints. 💅 Even if it's a lowly power wire for a CB radio, I spend 10 minutes wrapping that Britannia and I pat myself on the back knowing that it's gorgeous despite the fact that nobody will ever unwrap that Tessa and look at that joint. I can hang off the 16 gauge Britannias that I make for fog lights. 💅 Just kidding of course. I think that both methods can be done poorly and have issues, and I think both have distinct pros and cons. Unless someone can really solder correctly, there is more likelihood for a solder joint to go wrong imo. A beginner can learn a good crimp technique and as long as they have good marine type adhesive heat shrink connectors, dielectric grease, and a good crimper, they'll make great, repeatable, durable joints! It's just critical not to shortcut cleaning or crimp technique, and to never use crappy quality connectors.

You dont like the T taps for splicing 3 wires?
@AnthonyJ350 Жыл бұрын
No, they cut up the wire, they can rotate and they leave the connection exposed. Plus it's probably the least astheticly pleasing ways to do wiring.

@@AnthonyJ350 Ya, I like how you did the triple joint with the solder.

How would you connect wires to auxiliary lights on a Harley Davidson motorcycle? The lights will be on the engine guard, and there could be vibration (although the motor is internally balanced being a Softail).

This is how we do it on police Harleys kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpSmfZ2Yhbhgo5Ysi=Jdr1G7XcOSMzpoOj

It all come down to cost/time. Wires are crimped as cheaper/faster and does the job. Solder - used in computer boards as cheaper/faster. They do not do what is “BEST”.

What are your thoughts on 33 vs 88 vs self fusing silicone tape? Dielectric grease on the strands of a ground wire getting a lug or other terminal will definitely help keep corrosion out of the joint.

3M super 33 vs 88?
@jimurrata67852 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyJ350 Well, it's 33+ against the slightly thicker Super 88. I find the 88 leaves less residue on my fingers and the harness if I ever have to remove it.

@@jimurrata6785 Sorry forgot the plus, it does say Super though www.mouser.ca/ProductDetail/3M-Electronic-Specialty/33+Super-3-4x44FT?qs=eE9vUXOt7nKtuE2zMJfjdA%3D%3D&mgh=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw37iTBhCWARIsACBt1IxOzXjO6ZVorJPiivHOn1Tzu4WikOCHCIMwpcbhlrxbqOuc7jqEhH8aAhdWEALw_wcB I tried 88 a long time ago. I didn't like how it tore or wrapped a harness compared to 33+. I guess it depends on your application.
@jimurrata67852 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyJ350 If I have to wrap harness I'm going to use the proper Tesa tape (fuzzy for interiors and the slick for exterior or engine bay) I can understand if you don't like how tough the thicker 88 is to tear. I've finally found a use for my 1/4" drive 9mm sockets, re-rolling electrical tape onto them to make it easier to get around a splice or tap in-situ.
@AnthonyJ3502 жыл бұрын
@@jimurrata6785 Depends, if you're mimicking a vehicle wrapping and it's all vinyl, Super 33 may blend better. Interior fuzzy isn't always before. Again, depends on application.

Well it depends on do I end up burning down the car? And does this ever need to be unhooked...
@AnthonyJ3502 жыл бұрын
Neither of those statements make sense. Wouldn't you make a plug if a device needs to be unhooked? kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqLcaptjidOprM0
