This is a really good comparison video, the difference in ball motion is very evident. That pin down ball looked really good.

I setup layouts based on tilt and rotation, but most layouts are pin up but closer to neutral

Half my arsenal is pin up and half is pin down. I usually start league with a pin down assym solid and shoot spares with one. Then I go to pin up hybrid or pearl.

Conventional pin up drillings lower RG and raise diff. Conventional pin down drillings raise RG and lower diff. This is part of the reason that pin down will hook more down lane
@mhoward607315 күн бұрын
Pin up raises the RG and differential. Pin down lowers the RG and differential.

I don't drill pin downs unless i have a pin up "usually" last ball i drilled pin down only was the OG outer limits which was great but i regret not getting a pin up option. I've thrown the offset ( magenta ) pin down only and i loved it it was my fathers and because of that i got the offset attack as a pin up and i loved it but couldn't play straighter with it ( my preferred way to bowl ). watching this video makes me like the pin down option more and i may get a pin down rather a pin up

I use 3.75 to 4 inch pin to PAP on most of my equipment. Seems to work well for me. I have one pin down ball. Black widow 3.0. Works well on our house shot

I have a pin down radical no doubt and you have to send it far out from the left to get in the pocket but it strikes like crazy
@andrewweltlich906515 күн бұрын
For me, pin down hook more on the backend. Only exception is when there is a lot of oil. Edit: I should mention I like a shorter pin to PAP on pin down and longer on pin up.

I've had all my best sets with balls drilled with the pin in the middle finger. Just works for some reason for me.

On house or any condition that has friction built in, or any condition where control is desired, I use short pin to pap, pin down layouts to begin a set. It allows me to start farther right than I traditionally have throughout my bowling career. It makes it easy for me to teeter on the edge of the oil line and doesn't overreact on shots that I feed a couple boards too early into the dry. That control comes at a cost though, as the ball starts rolling forward/becoming lazy downlane later in the block Once I notice the decreased reaction creeping in, I change to something pin up/longer pin to pap and jump left and my reaction is restored.

Depends on the ball and what the lanes are doing, big asyms i prefer to put pin down, but pin up asyms also have their place.

Rev-dominant 2H here. I was a pin-up bowler as a traditional lefty, but pin-down (and short-pin) have been much more controllable (and thus effective) since I switched.

My only pin down pieces are my Purple Tank and Carbide Tank (short, flat pattern pieces). I'm debating on a pin down on a Jackal Onyx. I have a Jackal Legacy that is pin up, but it's a #16, a little bit different core numbers than the #15.

I am a middle of the middle bowler at 17.2 mph on the monitor and 400 revs... I drill the strong asymm solid/pearls pin down and the weaker stuff pin over bridge. I just get a little more length with pin down so the balls don't hook at my toes.

I tend to favor pin up layouts based on experience when i was a younger bowler. I am tempted to try a pin up and pin down on the BW Mania. I am a bowler in his mid 60s and may game has changed a bit to accommodate physical limitations.

Pin down is my layout, however it's not for everybody!! And It's not always the best option!!! Gotta play the lanes!!!
@edb387715 күн бұрын
Agreed. Always take what the lanes will give you. Fighting the lane is a losing battle.

Been drilling my big asyms pin down 40x4x65 slightly more continuous and rounder off friction. Smaller drill angle would help to keep rings farther apart I think.

Out of curiosity, since I have found this made a huge difference for me, what are your finger and thumb pitches?
@hotstovejer15 күн бұрын
I will drill big assyms to complement each other on longer patterns. I want to see longer transitions in a sanded ball and shorter transitions in a shiny ball. So a Ghost OOB drilled 50*5*65 is going to complement a Crimson drilled 30*5*50.

Mostly pin up syms (ZEN GL, GB5, Sublime). However, I get the most violent reactions from my pin down RST X2 and Theorem Hybrid. My best game is on that RST X2 (275). I’m thinking of adding a pin down hustle as a third game ball to this lineup. I haven’t thrown a pin down sym yet. I have a Focus sitting in wait, and an Innovator solid to plug and redrill. Recommendations???

Just got a Hammer Arctic Vibe drilled pin down and I can’t see a difference honestly. I have a pin up Phaze 2 that I have to hook the whole lane with in league and this pin down Vibe does the exact same thing.
@joker3dx2 күн бұрын
Pin Down on symmetrical balls like the Vibe do not do as much since the Balance Holes were eliminated, some years ago. Radical has a good video on this.

I am a Full Roller so none of this applies to me. Full Rollers have their own collection of unique layouts. The pin can be placed in many locations to produce different effects.

I'm about to get a new ball (Hustle RIP) drilled today, so this is very helpful. Thank you. Because I'm much more rev dominant, I get any reactive ball drill pinned down. But I'm getting the level next week and will probably go with a pin up for that one.
@joshg21815 күн бұрын
Hustles are low diff symmetrical, You would never drill that pin down. You drill asymmetrical balls pin down because the psa effects core dynamics similar to an extra hole

@@joshg218 Agreed. unfortunately, the only thing the weight hole ban did was limit layouts on symmetricals (at least for most people).
