Learning about protein quality/amino acids profile from Dr. Lyon has been revolutionary. Understanding that plant protein has about half of the essential amino acids, or AAs that the body can't make on it's own, shows the dilemma. You either become deficient in essential amino acids, or you double up and get twice the carbs...

Gorillas weighs 375 lbs and live on twigs, leaves and fruit and can tear us apart. They have the same digestive system we have (unlike cows). A 30 lb monkey can give a 200 lb man a run for his money. I have $8 a day to live on for food (PERIOD) so I get my protein from pastured raised eggs and beans. I'm 74 years old and the last time I was at a doctors office was in 1969. I've had one $4 prescription in my life and weigh the same as I did when I graduated H.S. 56 years ago (135 lbs/29" waist). B/P is about 112/67, BMI 19.5, pulse 55-62, oxygen saturation 98-99, uric acid 6.0 (bit high) and sugar perfect. I'm stuck with eggs and beans.

And also its too much volume to be sustainable and I get major bloating due to to much fibers.

I am a 70kg/154 pound woman. If I were to eat that many grams of protein a day I'd feel terrible. Trying to eat ninety grams a day made me overweight. When I went to 0.7 of my ideal weight I lost weight and hit a sweet spot. I have seen Carnivore Judy say that more than that amount for women tends to make them gain weight from her observation (fat, it wasn't muscle I gained) and I had an aha moment as to what happened with me. I think this is worth more investigation by Dr Lyon

If overall calories are accounted for, gaining weight should not happen. Eat your goal weight in grams. At 5’5” that is 125 grams of protein for me. That’s 500 calories so the rest would be fat and carbs or if carnivore, you’d get it in fat. If I am eating 1800 calories then that would be about 145 grams of fat

There are two essential amino acids in proteins that can not be derived from plant sources. Traditional need for high quality animal protein is 15 grams per day for a 150 pound adult person and 30 grams for a child.

Never felt better and never been healthier than I have been the last 10 years on only plants. 61 years old and always hearing you look 20 years younger and are gorgeous. No animal anything. No thank you. Strong bones in horses, cows, and apes - no meat eaten by them. Only grass and other veggies and out in the sunshine. Vitamin D3 and K2 are some great bone building/protective supplements. Augmented NAC is super beneficial after age 50. You'll never convince me otherwise.

I live on a small Social Security check. After paying my bills I have about $350 left over. That gives me $250 a month for food (about $8 a day) and $100 for miscellaneous. Any meat is too expensive (forget grass fed) so my protein comes from eggs and beans. If I wanted 1gram of protein per pound of body weight I would have to drop my body weight down to 50 pounds.

I tried to respond to some replies but good ole KZbin blocks ya. If you run into difficulties with Carnivore touch base with one of the Carnivore advocates who will gladly help you figure it out. Sadly most physicians & nutritionist have zero clue. But even those with alpha-gal syndrome or histamine intolerance can over come this temporary set back. Dr. Ginge

I just don’t get it … 1 gram of protein means what exactly … so at that, I calculate 140grs of protein per day for someone weighing 140lbs. BUT what does that mean? 140grs of lamb, beef, pork etc per day? That isn’t much. Please explain. Where do I find how much protein is in a 1lb of meat?
@elvnprince Жыл бұрын
Each ounce of animal protein is about 5g of protein, so 80g per pound of meat.

What is it about animal protein that makes it better than plant protein? Have there been any plant based ketogenic diet studies? The animals that are eaten for their protein typically get their protein by eating plants.

They don't actually get their protein from plants. Cows eat grass, which feed the bacteria in their four stomachs. The cow actually gets amino acids (protein) from the bacteria. Cow meat is the exact amino acid profile that the human body needs, where plant protein has half the essential amino acids per serving, so you have to decide between not getting enough nutrients or getting twice the carbs. Animal protein is also fully bioavailable, where plant protein, beyond being deficient, isn't bioavailable.

Thats your conclusion? Cows get their nutrition from grass. And youre saying we can digest grass?

Dr. Lyon I’ve heard you several times. As a physician I’ve become extremely dismayed with the status of medicine. What I have found is that the so called nutritional science is for the most part garbage. This conversation on protein is a nice hypothetical discussion which for the patient is technical and verbose. I could spout off biochemical terms, studies etc that would leave the patient impressed by the gobbledygook. What I have found clinically is that my psychiatric patients, my autoimmune patients, GERD, & other bowel problems such as IBS, Crohn’s, UC, constipation, hypertensive & heart disease patients all do amazingly better on a carnivore ketogenic diet. Carnivore being high saturated animal fat moderate protein and almost zero carbs. A diet that one doesn’t need to weigh or calculate the macros. Rather eat as much as you can till you feel stuffed snd within a day or two you will be saturated with essential nutrients and the hormonal change that has taken place naturally decreases oral intake. Clinically , in 3-6 months they don’t need to take medicines. That they physically, emotionally feel better, and without effort naturally decrease the number of meals & are all addicted to sugar. following intermittent fasting without effort Additionally they find they spend significantly less at the grocery store & pharmacy. Their quality of life overall including pain improves. I also find that those who stick to the diet for at least a month tend to continue the Carnivore lifestyle solely because they like how they feel. As I am an expert in prescribing medications for my patients , I’ve never thought of diet as a cure to our chronic disease epidemic. That is changed. As I’ve seen for years the so called “ science “ is biased & doesn’t cure anything. But today I know you are what your eat. If you have chronic diseases or cancer you deserve it to yourself to go Carnivore. It’s not that I think one can never eat bread, have a fruit, never eat veggies, but rather you will feel immensely better if you don’t. Where is the science on this. We both know there is no decent random controlled studies nor do observational studies mean a whole lot. But I am done being a legal protocol drug pusher. We are all sugar addicts. Keep it simple. Dr. Ginge

@@Eric-fq5wx animal protein contains all the essential amino acids , plants don’t. Plants do contain proteins, sugar and fat called phytosterols . Plants also contain plant toxins as well as anti nutrients. These toxins may be destroyed by cooking fermentation and maybe alright in small amounts . And let’s not forget that most vitamins you buy are coming from plants/ fruits. In our bodies these plant vitamins need to be converted into a form we humans use. The bioavailability is low. You ask about studies. I’ll direct you to the book , The Great Fat Lie by Nina Teicholz . You won’t get the study your looking for but by the time you finish reading you’ll understand the BS behind studies. Let’s note that in medical school they teach evidence based medicine. However, there is essentially little evidence based medicine and most extrapolate results and consider the benefit will be good for the entire population. This is an assumption. To take you down the rabbit hole of understanding one must realize that are nutritional guidelines that dictate society are making us chronically I’ll. The second is that cholesterol is not the arson destroying your heart and health but the fireman coming to put out the inflammation. Cholesterol heart hypothesis has been proven false. But you would not know this from any medical journal or cardiologist. The cholesterol paradox is that those who have low cholesterol have a higher all cause mortality than those who have high cholesterol. Statins the class of drug that is mandated by medical protocols do not protect people from heart attacks. They do increase your risk of diabetes, stroke, dementia, hypertension, cancer, and infection. The best study on statins ( medication to lower cholesterol) was the 4S study on simvastatin. The drug company purposely overstated the benefit claiming if you took simvastatin for 5.4 years your risk of dying from a heart attack was decreased by 42%. This is a massive exaggeration because they gave you the relative risk reduction when the should have stated the absolute risk reduction which was 0.6% per year. Note this study was done prior to Vioxx ( Prior to Vioxx a drug company could do 10 studies and only publish the one that made them look good ) and follow up studies demonstrated no mortality benefit. Actually the Fourier Study showed a slight increase in mortality. The biggest problem with our new world order is that who can you trust? Who can you believe? Well trust yourself. Your capable of critical thinking. If you stop thinking of good as desert but rather as medicine and try Carnivore for a month I guarantee you will loose weight, feel better , sleep better and take less medications. Note that a ketogenic diet means very low sugar and high saturated fats. You will go through an adjustment period where you may have loose stools, constipation, nausea, weakness or dizziness. Nausea is usually 2nd to decrease sugar intake and not enough saturated fat for energy. Constipation is also not enough fat. Weakness dizziness is usually secondary to lack of electrolytes specifically salt. Good luck. Read Nina’s book. Dr. Ginge
