Thanks for the kind words Will. I would have placed me more as the old waffling spark on YT lol. Great video and echo your views. Adams question is a good one. On large scale EVSE they all have heaters for this. Smaller 7kW and 22kW charge points generally have the electronic RCD varieties which are to a different product standard than 61008 61009 60898 etc. The ones with the traditional RCCBs inside them will require thermal effect consideration and that is on us as installers to select the product with that in mind. Manufacturers do not design installs, we do.

In the past I used to do work on caravan sites. And all the feeder pillars for the vans had rcds in side them and they were basically an ip rated plastic db fixed to a stake in the ground.

Thanks for watching. Those RCDs will be subject to thermal derating as well. So this should of been taken into account at installation. Like I said in the video, the installer needs to be aware of the impact it will have on the particular brands device, and calculate the parameters accordingly 👍🏽

@@navitascp this was in the early 2000 and I was just an apprentice. Back then rcds were just starting to be a thing.

Interesting discussion topic Will. If the CU is outside what about condesation and corrosion? Warm air inside the CU meets colder air outside the CU will get condesation and also the humidity of the air inside and out. I assume a automatic pressure release valve could be used to help the heat escape without allowing the water to enter however people think drilling a drain hole will do the same thing. Thus the IP rate is voided. Insulated CUs could be an answer to the tempreture differntial as could a warming element in the CU. Likelihood of mechanical damage is another thing to consider. (IK rating) I look forward to see how this plays out.

Completely agree and the more this topic expands the more questions will come from it, especially over time as affects of the situation begin to mature. Like I said in the video, it’s not something I would like to see a Verso unit used for. However, as I can only speak for our brand, that’s where I’ll leave it ;)

D.B.s in feeder pillars must endure a lot of temperature fluctuations. And MCBs and RCBOs etc inside BMS panels can get really hot because of all the relays and starters etc. I have opened control panels before and been met with a blast of hot air kind of like when you open an oven. That really can't be good, even if the cable is tri rated

No you’re right, and not enough time is spent educating the industry on the impact of thermals on all of our circuits, cables, contacts etc

Thanks for watching. Makes no difference if you use 2.5 T&E if the water ingress gets in the glad, your stuffed lol like i said though, I’m far less worried about the board and more worried about the thermal factors 👌🏽
