I'm having to replace the 5" gutters with 6" gutters on the lower half of my home while leaving the existing 5" gutters up top for later (the ones with a first floor roof overhang below them. The 5" gutters on the lower half just cannot keep up with the rainwater we've been getting in North Georgia and its causing serious erosion issues in the mulch beds around the property. This video may have also inspired me to run a down spout from the second floor and tie it directly into the gutter system I have as shown @2:44. Good stuff. They look great; can't wait to get this project done.

My main issue is with elm seeds,which turn to porridge when wet,and clog the downspouts. For that reason,I am thinking of getting the six inch gutters with the bigger downspouts.

I put a seven inch gutter on my house. I upgraded to a metal roof and I live in Florida. At times I can get several inches an hour rain and metal roofs shed water much quicker than a shingle roof.

If I go from a 5" gutter (4 downspout) to a 6" gutter, can I get away with only 2 downspouts as opposed to 4? TIA

We always recommend a downspout every 40’ or less but good question and i’m not sure exactly the answer to that one

It’s not the size of the gutter that matters. It’s the length of the downspout that counts! 😉 (I have 12 inch gutters - btw)😂

Great video but the 5 inch is still a great gutter it will work just fine we install way more 5 than 6 when the roof is too steep or it’s metal go with 6 it sucks because it goes by the neighborhood for some reason everybody try’s to match everybody they don’t want 6 because it looks to big vice versa with 5

We value everyone’s opinion and thank you for watching but we strongly disagree with this at least for our market area. We have installed plenty of 5” and 6” systems and have found that 6” are much better in many ways and for allowing a good gutter guard to perform better. Our head technician has over 30 years installing gutter systems and he hates 5” gutters because he knows how much better value the customer gets with a 6” system based on curb appeal and performance. Once again this is our opinion and assessment based on what we have seen work in our area

@@roofstruction The key word in your comment is "value". Six-inch gutters are a better value than 5-inch gutters if the company is not selling 6-inch as a premium, 20% or more over the 5-inch. 5-inch gutters paired with 3x4 downspouts will work great. The downspout size is more important than the gutter size. A 2x3 outlet can only handle 55 gallons of water per minute, while a 3x4 outlet can accommodate 100 gallons per minute. Plus, installing an extra downspout on a 5" gutter will pretty much increase its performance level to that of 6" gutters. But I do agree that 6" gutters look better than 5" gutters.
