I started keeping a planner during the lockdown so I could feel I was accomplishing something for myself, also to chronicle what was happening. I used to be a journaler (for decades) and stopped because of depression, and a planner is just enough structure for a little chaos (and yes, thank you Stephanie). Lots of stamps and stickers and pens from Jetpens have made a tough day easier to write about.

There is another option, which is unavailable for purchase on your site: a 2 pages-per-day format, like in a Franklin Planner, or Day Timmer. Franklin Planner (classic or ~A5): The Day has two pages. □ The left page has a space for to do lists, and space for an appointments schedule. □ The right page is just lined paper. So it's two in one. If you have a tendency to be unorganized, it is the perfect planner/journal to use, since the page number is the date. It also has indexes to allow you to make a quick reference for finding information. The downside? A lot of paper, and these use almost a "copy paper," style of paper. [Note: you could always buy a notebook, with higher quality paper, and use the same set up, but you would have to prepare it yourself like a bullet journal.] The Kokuyo Days is close, but only has half the space. In general the benefit of a paper planner versus using your phone: you don't have to worry about battery life.

I have a hybrid planner/journal set up in a Traveler's Notebook. Something modular like the TN really helps a hybrid work efficiently, since each insert can work at different time scales.
@laynagilbert4450
@laynagilbert4450 Жыл бұрын
What inserts do you have in it ? I have a tn but no idea what to put in it
@ShaunaStory
@ShaunaStory Жыл бұрын
@@laynagilbert4450 I have three notebook inserts. The first is for long term collections or trackers (things like future log, period tracker, recommendations/things to check out, notes from doing taxes). I use a dot grid insert, since I came from a typical A5 bullet journal setup and liked dot grid, and it's lasted me 3 years. The second is for current planning--monthly calendar/trackers, rolling weekly task list, and dailies. I use a square grid insert so my habit trackers are quick to draw out (I just outline a box with a height equal to number of days if that makes sense). My dailies are pretty irregular in length, so the number of months I fit can fluctuate...maybe 3-5 months in an insert. The third insert is for memory keeping. I keep it pretty loose, just whenever something interesting happens (go to a concert, do something with a friend, read an interesting book). I haven't been too consistent with this, but I've tried to be better this year and filled a kraft insert with Jan - Aug. I've switched to a blank insert for my current one. The big plus is not having to migrate stuff every 6 months or so, which is what I was doing in the hardcover journals. Hope the ideas help! It's hard to find more planner-oriented and less decorative-heavy TN setups out there.

I've been adding and removing planners from my cart for hours today trying to figure out if I wanted to continue trying to BuJo or get a weekly planner like the Hobonichi Techo Weeks I adore for my work planner. This video could not have come at a better time!
@melaniescribbles
@melaniescribbles Жыл бұрын
I'm in a similar situation: I'm autistic and we often have trouble planning and organizing, so I'm just trying to manage my executive dysfunction on that one. I tried BuJo, and it worked for a while, but the method just didn't 'stick' in my routine, I guess? Like, I'd forget to do daily entries for a few days, and then bullet journalling just completely slipped my mind altogether. It would just start to feel overwhelming with all of the yearly and monthly goals. I think that weekly planning might help, but a lot of those weekly planner notebooks have the same monthly and yearly system. Like, I just never made my monthly goals with BuJo because a lot of unexpected stuff happened in a week that forced me to completely have to change ALL of my plans for one day. And then I'd look at those monthlies, and just feel bad for not achieving my goals despite all of the chaos in my life. Like my planner was actively shaming me, if that makes sense? This video kind of got me thinking of just maybe getting one of those weekly planner flipbook things instead of one of those planner notebooks, since that just sounds more manageable than BuJo. And it just sounds more flexible than BuJo in the grand scheme of things. But not sure if that method would even work for me on the long term. This video is a godsent, though, because I would've never come up with that idea otherwise.
@caithenry8429
@caithenry8429 Жыл бұрын
@@melaniescribbles yup! I ended up moving away from the bujo for those exact reasons, and that it was a burden to create beautiful monthly spreads or write reflections. The Techo Weeks, in my opinion, is good at providing space for both work and idea jotting without the self induced stress of keeping a perfect planner
@totally_not_a_bot
@totally_not_a_bot Жыл бұрын
@@melaniescribblesOne neurodivergent to another, I find any more than 3 goals at once is overwhelming. The commonly stated number is 5 at most. Also, systems and processes, not objectives. So rather than "Read a book this month," try "Read for a few minutes every day this month." You'll probably finish the book in a month or three if you read for 5 minutes every evening anyway. I've heard that committing to 2 minutes is good for establishing habits. If you miss a day, you miss a day. This has been your goal-setting advice from a random stranger. Also, BuJo is supposed to be pretty dead simple and more of a goal achievement tool than a journalling tool. I recommend watching the original video or reading the book to see how it's intended to be used. If you're doing an art project every week, you have fallen prey to the journalling influencers who have fallen prey to each other.

Non structured planners can be incredibly useful if your needs vary greatly month to month. I’ve used a dot grid ‘bujo’ for years now and have had a one day take up two page and a whole month only take 4. I would have wasted so much paper in a prep designed planner. I do make my really art as a self care activity but they 1000% don’t need to look up minimalist bullet journaling if you are scared but all the artistic masterpieces on instagram (I will say one cover paper took me the a good 12 hour work to do, I love it but it did kind of my my journal unusable for the month cos the paint was alway wet)
