I have that knife and love it. I switched out the sheath with a leather 12" machete scabbard I bought in Costa Rica, then wet formed it around the knife and it's fantastic. Looks good, quite tough, and retention is excellent without any crappy snaps that will rust in my jeep immediately. You should have a truck kit. In addition to roadside and recovery gear, you should have a truck knife, truck axe, truck shovel, truck saw, truck bolt cutters, and a truck wreaking bar probably isn't a bad idea either. I keep all this in a Jeep Wrangler with no where near the space of a truck and I haven't had any problems tucking them away somewhere.

I completely agree and keep a lot of those items in my rig. I've mostly used my recovery gear, some hand tools, and my truck knife but it's always better to have more items on hand. Thanks for watching!

best thing to sharpen it would probably be a flat file. you hold the file diagonally and push it down the length of the big knife. must be a good sharp file to bite into it

Good choice, I own a couple cold steel fixed blades to this day. Thanks for watching!

In each of my vehicles instead of a knife I have a cold steel spesnaz combat throwing shovel. It will cover a lot of issues.

I keep 2 fixed blades, a folding saw and a large folding knife as well as a roofing hammer that has a small hatchet side. Also I keep a machete in there too. Ya never know when you might break down and you might have a friend or family along

Big blades always had a fan base, but boy do I remember when the RTAKs came out they had such hype about them. ESEE stole the thunder from Ontario these days. I do own a few Ontario knives and used to have the smaller version I think they called the TAK? Great review. I can't say which is better, axe or large knife, it is really up to the user. Find what works for you, but I do think a large blade is a good option for those who don't want to carry a axe. If you ride through the woods, you should always have the tools you need to cut and remove trees that have fallen across the road/trail.

I think if ya build a frame , cylindrical, and put knife in it, blade facing up, you could split wood all day, using a hammer in the frame, on that blade. Frame could be made with hinges, to make it fold to half it's width, and maybe you could even make a swedish stove with it?

I wouldn't be surprised, you probably could. I've beat on this one pretty good and it keeps taking it.

Do you know if they're still making these in 5160? I have the Esee Junglas but was looking to pickup one of these too

I believe the new ones are 1075 but if you look you can find one in 5160 pretty easy. I saw one on Midwayusa recently.
