@re87465 ай бұрын
@@brux3822 Tell them you were on unemployment for those months. Employers today know what the job market has been like over the last three years with layoffs and unemployment. Or if you want the gap to be less, add time to a position you were at. Its not hard to fudge.

Was talking to a chef today who bluffed his way into a sous-chef position. He has no professional training and learnt his way up on the job, primarily through his contacts and his interest in cooking. I'm a qualified multimedia designer who has been trying to get my foot in the door to a junior design position for a number of years. Seriously considering bluffing as I am not hearing back from any job applications. I cannot afford to gain experience working an internship for free, I have a family to support, rent to pay, the current system works against people like me. I would prefer to be honest, but this seems to be getting me nowhere.

Have you tried doing some "freelancing" work? Maybe some work for friends and family? If you're aiming for a JR designer role do you know html and css? Knowing those two will help you stand apart from other designers who don't. As far a bluffing or lying on your resume, try not to over do it but try to "stretch" the truth a little if you have to. I did a stream with Niall from Codu Community and we talked about doing what you need to do to get that first job. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooXQpWuDqdB9eJY

@@DorianDevelops thanks for your reply, I have studied CSS and HTML, to a lesser extent PHP and Javascript. I also have experience using 3DSMax and have worked as a freelance photographer. I have done some freelance design work for a friends company doing weekly advertisements for news print, facebook campaigns and video. I worked for a start up business for 3 months for a college placement, I thought this would be sufficient as experience. I just dont get how Junior Graphic design jobs ask for 1 or 2 years industry experience. The reason i was speaking to the chef was that I am seriously thinking switching career out of frustration. At 35 years old I cant afford to wait around much longer.

@@1queijocas Sadly my qualifications have nothing to do with my current job. I've become a chef and have worked myself up the line to a head chef position. It's creative, but money isn't ideal for the hours put in. University was a total waste of time in my case. I do have a friend who travelled to Germany to get experience, he's doing well in the design industry but again he doesn't have a family to support. I've had someone say this to me before as a person who also has an ethnic name. Here's how I see it. I will never change or discard my name for anyone. So that leaves two choices. Deal with whatever biases someone has against me or give up. Because even if it's not your name, it'll be your skin color. If not that, it'll be your gender. Or your haircut. Or your clothing. People judge eachother irrationally about literally everything. Never change your identity though.
