This is my take on maintaining your Sisterlocks, micro locs, braid locs, without a consultant, with a brief history.
Do what makes YOU feel most comfortable and confident. I am not an expert.
I am only sharing MY journey 😘

PREACH! Loved this video! You have the right as you already know to do what you want with you right hair and of course you'll learn as you go shoot that's great! It's been my goal To self maintain after mine have matured so please make videos of how it works for you I'll be watching

OMG, thanks for commenting. I love your videos and I've watched them all! I'm a bit of a rebel/control freak so self-maintaining works for me! I haven't had a chance to record how I do it, but I plan on posting more. It's kind of difficult because I usually do it at night when my son is asleep and my lighting is iffy. I'll figure it out, sooner rather than later. Thanks for watching!

This video really spoke to me. Just like with you professionals would tell me that I needed a relaxer because my hair was too thick. I went natural in 2014 and I started my Sisterlocks November 2016 but I never thought I would want to maintain my own locs. Locking my hair has been a very freeing experience for me and I'm working on building the confidence that I can take care of my hair own my own.

I LOVE this video...I too agree that the ONLY way to know my hair is to do my own hair... Thank you lady!

Thanks for this video. After I'm fully locked, I will maintain my own own. I desire independence from going to someone but for me, after my hair locks.

I loved this video! Im having my sisterlocks established in about 10 days. Im super excited about it, but like you, going natural showed me how to take care of my hair, and to become more connected with it. This will be the first time Im sitting in a salon in over 7 years. My plan is once my locs mature (hopefully within 1 year), I will self re-tighten.

your story is every black little girl who was born in the 70's 80' and 90's this natural stuff is new to us. who started your locs? I tried to go back and find out. my friend at work started her locks and I was fooled. I thought she went to a professional. they are beautiful. your hair is beautiful I want locks because there so free!

I went to a SL consultant, I never listed her information though. I would have started my own if I has the patience. I kinda wish I started them myself, but here we are, lol. Are you locked or thinking about it?

Tracy I never new you replied to me I just came back to your beautiful thumbnail lol . I was so obsessed that I just micro braided my whole head. it took two days. I'm two weeks in, and they're so small that I do not plan on taking them out, so here we go.:)

I feel where you're coming from with this. I had my friend start my comb coils, because I knew it'd take me ages by myself. After that though, I maintained it, and I love that feeling of being self sufficient. Occasionally I get it styled professionally, but I like being able to do it myself.

Yeah, Iove the independence of doing my hair on my time! It's freeing, fun and most importantly I'm in control of this journey.

i feel you on doing your own hair. i installed and maintain my 9 years old daughter and my sisterlocks. my 15 years and 6 years old sons have brotherlocks which i installed too. i didn't think that it would lead to a business opportunity, but it did by accident when my first client seen my childrens hair, they gave her my number for retight. now i have 15 within 2 months plus my loose natural clients. so keep up the awesome work. you're hair looks lovely

I can relate to your story. When I relaxed my hair seemed not to grow as well. I used to think maybe my body just doesn't know how to grow long hair. But as my consultant puts it, our hair does grow. Often times it only seems not to grow. Actually, we just don't always know how take care of it & it breaks off. Little by little.

Riah Lee yup! Lack of knowledge about my hair was my downfall.

Your hair was always growing but the professionals more than likely kept cutting off your length or putting in styles that caused breakage.
@TraceTrace25

I get that. My point was that I had "professionals" taking care of my hair. And I never reached any hair goals while being in their care. 😂. Essentially they're not all created equal. Thanks for watching.

i use to love rustic beauty's videos as well. i often time wonder what ever happened to her. sbe literally just disappeared. ;( i pray she is doing well and I sould love for her to do an update video. is she still natural? does she have locs now? etc... good to know i am not the onky one who loved her! sn. you inspired me to get the o locker... thry have a mega micro one now... im debating if i should get that one for myself. the micro one and the medium.... my sl are small and medium all throughout.... and thd front is smaller than the average size small. @tracy

NaturalNikkiDST okay I knew I couldn't be alone! I think she posted a video a few years back and that's the last I've seen of her. 🤣. I have the small and medium size tools and I have large SL and I only use the small for myself and my locs including the swollen ones fit comfortably! I'd say go with the micro and small or just the small. I don't foresee myself ever being able to use the medium one on my locs.

I'm trying to get there as well. Are you a 3 or 4 pattern?
@TraceTrace25
@TraceTrace25 7 жыл бұрын
4 pattern with reverse 4 around my edges. You? I've also been considering the 3 pattern. I've been researching the differences. From what I've gathered, I might go that route.
@nataliebrooks77
@nataliebrooks77 7 жыл бұрын
Ive started my locs by doing braidlocs. Started in August! I tried the 4 point and Im really not liking how ropey they feel so I went for the 3 point and I think I will stick with that. Please keep us updated on the outcome for yourself, I would love to see and be encouraged as I maintain my own locs too!
@TraceTrace25
@TraceTrace25 7 жыл бұрын
Natalie, I know the feeling my was done with a 4 pt too and I think I want my locks thicker because some parts feel so tight and ropey like they might not thicken up. I'm with you, I'm going to the 3 pt. rotation. I thought I was the only one who felt that way about the 4pt rotation 😂
@nataliebrooks77
@nataliebrooks77 7 жыл бұрын
Maybe I will feel differently as my locs start to mature but like you said, they feel like they wont expand properly with the 4 point. I to, am glad that someone else feels this way because I couldnt find much info on it. And I decided on micro braids so they will only expand so much anyway as they mature. I want a full look but where I can manage and style my hair as if it were loose natural hair. But I just wasnt feelinh that stiff rope feel.

I'm newly locked (sl) 2 mos in. I'm sooo in need of a change in want to color it. any way to do so without slippage?
@TraceTrace25
@TraceTrace25 7 жыл бұрын
Essence2785 I colored my hair before I had my locs established. I would be cautious about lightening your hair with new locs just because your texture might loosen up(mine did). That could potentially cause slippage and a headache for you. I would really speak with your consultant to see when you could lighten your hair without risking your locs.
@fayetaylor1998
@fayetaylor1998 7 жыл бұрын
Essence2785 I'm also two months in and was wondering the same thing. But my consultant said "no it's not a good idea right now." The locs need to mature more. Eight months should be OK but I would still check with the consultant. It also depends on your hair texture.
Super gymnastics 😍🫣
