ANSWER:
Usually not. But if I did I would use a very small amount of mustard oil (mustard seed oil) and only on the inside of the flute, taking care to not allow any oil to drip to outside

I bought a couple Bansuris before going on a long road trip in some extreme weather conditions (either really hot or really humid). I actually thought I ruined my Bansuris from the heat, because sometimes I could hardly get a sound out of them. I oiled them despite the recommendation not to, and to my surprise the tone became far more clear, consistent, and resonant than it ever had been. I can play the higher notes on the second octave that I couldn't before. I'm actually happy to pick up my Bansuris rather than discouraged. Just some anecdotal evidence that oiling might actually be really useful in some circumstances, like in harsh weather environments. Nothing I had read or watched suggested the difference would be as dramatic as it was for me.

Thank you i have brought one and you have explained about the bansuri flute so easy to understand, i knew nothing about them until now. I only have ever played the silver flute but, these have an awesome sound.

thanks for the video. My bansuri smells a lot to burned and it disturbes me a lot. Will smell stop after a time?
