I was struggling to make my first sound and found this video. It really helped when you said to do the long breath and press down on the lower lip. I have been trying for ages and now I can actually make a sound I feel quite triumphant and emotional. Thank you so much for the video.

Thank you for the lesson I got my friend one of these and myself with not much of a clue on how to play the instrument actually thought it hadn't been made properly thinking it was a different instrument we as going to return it but after hearing the sound from yourself I really like it it's a beautiful sound. I intend on keeping them and look forward to your future lessons online. Namaste from Scotland.

This is a GREAT instructional video for beginner bansuri players. Thank you! One question though... I can't see information on the EXACT method of going from a low octave to the higher octave - for example, having all of the holes closed and playing the lowest note on the flute, then keeping all of the same holes closed, but shifting the pitch to the higher octave. Does that happen by changing the shape or position of the lips (the embouchure)? Or increasing the airflow or pressure? Or rotating the angle of the flute a little? I would LOVE for someone to help me with this information, as I am stuck on the low octave. Thank you so much again! Ross

So great! I have a carnatic flute and there's not much I can find about it for techniques but this is really useful. finding tips for how to get that 'creamy' sound in between notes is so hard, but this has helped

Thanks Juan for explaining clearly and simply, which most of the comment givers have said. I still have one more question, which i hope you can answer. First blow is POO without any support of tongue or TU with tongue gently stroking the upper teeth of the upper jaw? Hope to hear from you. Thanks once again.🙂🙂

hello Harinder, you can actually do both but to me it is more elegant to start with the tonge gently.

Namaste Juan, thanks for this class. 🙏 I am learning the Bansuri right now and I have one question. When I play Ma Ga Re its working already well. With Re it is sometimes difficult, because of covering the whole. When I am coming to Sa Ni Dha, suddenly it feels I need more breath to create the sound and as well I feel more air goes around the whole I am blowing in. DO you have any recommendations for that problem? Another question what exercise whould you recommend for blowing the air in the whole, that not somuch air is passing the whole? I am really grateful for your tips 🙂
@Tepuiband2 жыл бұрын
Hello Stefanie, the lower notes need less air pressure and bigger channel of air in you ebouchure. This takes time and practice, keep playing and soon It will start to sound better.

Hi Juan! Thank you for inspiring me to play flute again! We met in Thailand in 2016 and because of the yoga class of Lea and you, I decided to start playing silver flute again. Now, after two years of playing silver flute, I have bought myself a bansuri yesterday. And of course there is a lot to learn, I already really like it. But sitting on the floor I realize I am out of breath quite fast, do you do anything to lengthen the breath? Or is this coming by playing a lot? With love from the Netherlands!

Hi Lea!! Nice you remember me! It was indeed a very little class and it has been the inspiration for my play :-) I don't have the Indian music knowledge yet but try to improvise anyhow. I like it a lot, it is such a beautiful sound I have seen your shop and they are very pretty flutes. I have bought one G# which I like, but maybe in the future a Tupui ;-) With love!

Amazing lesson! may I ask if I want to play a D minor song, what key of bansuri should I have? thank you!
@tepuibansuri63775 жыл бұрын
you can play D minor in many ways, the Indian way would be D bass Bansuri, however, this is advance level, the easier way would be with F Bass or Bb mid.

Is the bansuri embouchure same as a concert western flute? I was looking for some tutorials on bansuri embouchure but I cant found any info. Plenty of info on transverse flute but not bamboo. Thank you for your tutorials I been learning a lot but I am straggling with embouchure big time :(
@tepuibansuri63774 жыл бұрын
Bansuri embouchure is very similar to western silver flute, so you can apply the same knowledge.

@Tepuiband5 жыл бұрын
Hello Gouranga, the two tuning holes are also use in Bansuris these days, it gives better balance for the octaves and makes easier high notes, it is also a matter of taste, I like both styles.
