It's great that Nike actually sells AG boots on their US website. A few years ago they did not, unless you paid extra for a custom Nike By You pair.

Ya but stock is limited for US for some reason lol and I just had to order my euro pink AG Lunas 3rd party cuz they aren’t sold in US in AG mind you I wanted the phantom gx 2’s but Luna was only new euro pink I could get in AG. No option for AG was available for the euros on their website sadly but FG is always available 😢

That was a really common issue, I had 3 pairs crack within a month of owning them, the plastic with the shiny finish looks harder than what was on the vapor 15s, I can not yet confirm, but seems like they have fixed it

Safety on AG isn't just about conical studs. It's about having short studs that are numerous so that your body weight can be spread. Nikes studs are too long and too small in radius. Easy to roll your foot, especially given how narrow they are.

If the AG surface is really shallow, yes, these studs would be longer than ideal for sure. For that type of playing surface, you’re typically better off with a turf boot.

I'd like to see more AG offerings at least in the "pro" tier. And/or I'd like to see a return of conical studs as more of the standard vs the exception. There's fair enough choice but you know. Most of my playing time these days is on AG. All the schools have them (around here), indoor leagues here are basically Sept - April. I'm sure for many others as well.

Great review! What do you think of the 2 bladed heel studs on the AG version? Are they dangerous to plant into the surface with?

I don’t see it as an issue, nor do you feel it when playing in the boots. You don’t pivot from your heel, and if you are changing direction with weight on the heel, it’s towards the back where the rounded studs are positioned.

I have used my AG Phantom Vision on dry grass pitches. The only problem is dirt gets stuck in the holes on the bottom of the studs. Not a big deal.

Hi Josh, would you review the turf version of the vapor? I play both on natural grass and AG. My knees are not great, and the last couple of summer, I also notice the public pitch are often very hard due to the heat. So I'm thinking switching to turf shoes to have a more comfortable experience. Thank you in advance.

Hey Josh, can you comment on the difference in materials between the Black and Blue colourways? I've got them side by side and they feel different. Blue one is more smooth and glossy on the the outside and on feet it feels/sounds more plasticky. The black one feels more premium and on feet just feels better.

F50 Messi only comes in FG, so if you want 2 boots that are the same with different stud patterns, you can rule those out.

I’d actually say that the Mercs offer a little extra width through the toe box than the Tiempos. Beyond that difference, they’re similar in overall fit and shape.

Hey, I would like some help on if I should get the Nike Mercurial Vapor XVI Pro AG-Pro or the Mizuno Morelia Neo IV Beta Elite I play mostly on artificial grass and sometimes on regular grass I want to know what boots would last me longer and give me a better performance I found both boots for pretty much the same price so that isn't an issue.

I wouldn’t say that it’s necessarily unsafe, but should they break prematurely, Nike will most likely refuse a warranty claim. They make an AG version of the Tiempo as well

In my Experience I can’t recommend the AG-Sole. Simply because of it’s durability. The first studs of my (Vapor 14) Mercs broke already after a few months. As well most of the German Artificial Fields have quite long grass, so I would always go with FG

The vapor 14 AG were rubber studs and not great. Cheap tbh. The vapor 15 had a good AG plate but the soleplate itself would crack. The vapor 10-13 had fantastic AG pro soleplate. The 16 also feels good, you should give them a try
