Final Fantasy 14 2021. In this video I hope to help you decide: Should you play Final Fantasy XIV in 2021. Is FFXVI worth it in 2021? This is my first impressions video for Final Fantasy XIV to start out the new year. Should this be your MMO?

@@starwarsfan-ye9hw It is a tab-target MMORPG so there really isn't a dodge mechanic. Compared to WoW though the bosses have a major love of AOEs so you have to be ready to move in most fights. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWa5Xmtug7-qabM

@@starwarsfan-ye9hw I guess it depends on what you mean by "active dodging or blocking". It's not like Tera if that's what you mean, but all bosses and many minor enemies have AOE patterns. Your character (in lore reasons, through his/her gift of the Echo) can see enemies gathering energy for attacks and innately senses their shape and pattern. This allows you, the player, to dodge out of them and avoid taking damage. As for shielding, it depends on the class, but all tanks have active mitigation abilities to use when they anticipate a large attack incoming so they can reduce its damage, and all of the healers have some shield mitigation abilities (SCH has the most) to do the same thing. Every tank has small, medium, and large reductions, with the smaller ones available quite often. Some DPS (Monk with Fists of Earth stance, for example) also have mitigation abilities they can use. So it's best described as a hybrid system where there is some unavodable damage but there is a lot of avoidable damage and ways to mitigate damage (either unavoidable or avoidable that you screwed up and got caught in anyway.) There is a lot less sitting and turreting (as the other guy said, compared to WoW) due to the more active dodging.

If anyone is having trouble with console settings etc I'd recommend watching videos on how to set up with a controller on KZbin I've been playing on pc but with a controller and these videos really helped with all the possible settings for a more seamless gameplay

You don’t need to do those optional side quests. It will make you progress much quicker.

yeah, but when you get in the story part, you will get your level synced. So there is no need for the level grind, just by following story line alone should get your level up.

Setting up your hotbars and UI, reading your skills and put them in a logical order for yourself, makes the game so much easier to play. Then over time you will keep modifying your hotbars and UI after you learn more but just resizing and moving things around a bit is something you should try as early as possible =) Seems you figured out the hotbar part, but like every starter tank you keep turning on and off your tank stance. It should always be on when you have teammates.

Some things I noticed: you took some time to do the side quests and you walked everywhere. My advice to new players is to just focus on the main story quest and your class/job quests. You will get PLENTY of experience, gear, and money from these. Feel free to branch out later once you’ve gotten in to the “meat” of the game. In addition, you can teleport anywhere that has an aetheryte. It costs money but you should be getting enough from your quests to make up for it. Don’t worry to much about saving money; just get up to level 30 ASAP 😂. This is when combat starts getting more fun.

As a new player, last year, I did all side quests. All the ones I was able to do anyway and didn't skip anything. It got boring fast but I enjoyed making it past all that. Lol the story is amazing and I'm in shadowbringers now.

Heavensward and Shadowbringers are two of my best experiences in gaming EVER, surpassing even the NieR/Drakengard series for me in almost every aspect (the music is about even, though FFXIV's variety helps it take the cake).

Yeah I recorded a load of footage on ps4 first... But it recorded with no damn audio... Would have been 30 fps at 1080p. Tempted by the ssd upgrade but hanging in there for an eventual ps5 upgrade

I've beta tested Realm Reborn back in early 2013. I still play it to this day. The game have evolved greatly since then and I think it was for the better. During the launch, we didn't have a duty finder system so shouting for parties to get dungeon done was the only way to do it. Also, MSQ and dungeons never gave enough exp. It was necessary to grind FATE events with rest of the flock. Matter of fact, fate parties from Lv1 to Lv50 was the most efficient way to exp back then. Imagine doing that for over 100 hours lol. I suppose we had much more patience back then.

Was it the cross hotbars that made it more difficult on ps4? Been playing on ps4 ever since and since i got used to it, controller method feels more intuitive for me, although you do have a lot more buttons available for kb and mouse. The combat really gets more interesting starting at level 50 and beyond. You might look forward to getting your chocobo companion starting around level 20 main quests :)

i love FF14 but it definitely has a slow start. In a way it's good because if someone bought a level boost, they would be completely overwhelmed with mechanics and the slow start lets you really get the muscle memory down because boss mechanics become quite hectic later on and the story gets very, very good, but it does take too long to hit it's stride, but if you stick it out, when it finally hits, it hits hard and the combat speed feels dramatically increased because there is a lot to be aware of.

You can change the way the game controls on ps4. You don’t have to move using wasd type controls and instead use a free movement style. Much more comfy (Technically pc too if you use a controller like I do)

one advice for newcomers into FFXIV ... cos everything is locked behind story progress in this game when you leaving your first class do only MSQ (main story quests) it is marked with fairy meteor around exclamation mark it will give you enough exp for levelling and it will open a whole new world for you ... and for more freaks do side quest on a second job (or level two/three jobs at the same time and switch) ohhh and i forgot quests with plus marker are ones with will open new feature so do them as well

I currently have over 500 days played in game. I have been a player since the launch of A Realm Reborn. I have seen everything the game has to offer. I do endgame raiding and my static is currently working on the final fight of the final raid tier of the expansion. I have recently leveled an Alt character through the entire game and I must say the current experience of leveling is so much better than it was back in 2013. There is much to enjoy in this game and I always welcome new players.

I'm newly interested in this game and currently downloading the free trial while I watch this, the only thing that turns me off from this game from what I have seen is that you have to buy the game and THEN pay monthly instead of just a subscription based game or buy the game and thats it. difference between this game and Warcraft, is that in Warcraft you dont have to read a single word of quest text to get from level 1 to max. you can completely ignore Warcrafts story, what little there is in game and doesnt require you to purchase an entire library of novels to understand. its amusing to see you doing all the optional side quests though and grumbling. as a new player there are only three quest types you need to concern yourself with. 1) the MSQ, the quests with the little fireball icon 2) your class/job quest for your first class/job, which appears directly under the MSQ button on your HUD. 3) System Quests, the blue quests with the little cross icon. though the blue quests that unlock more classes/jobs can usually be ignored until late game. it doesnt really take that long, after about 4 hrs, you should be around level 15 and getting into your first dungeon if you are just focusing. though some people get overwhelmed and try to do everything they see or get caught in the class experimentation trap where they unlock tons of classes and split their MSQ experience between them.

Can I ask how do you all move run turn in ff14? Coming from gw2 where I was ab,e to lock view with left alt and free rund and turn with mouse smoothly. There i have to press and hold right mouse button to be able to do that.. already swapped QE - AD around as I don't know what real QE is used for as if you running without mouse right pressed in and try turn with Q or E, screen turns are not smooth at all compare to mouse. When you fighting, to move around without right mouse button is so confusing.. or is it just me and you have to get used to it? Anyone else always holds right mouse button in?

I know it's an mmo but...it's a Final Fantasy numbered game and although side missions do exist, the main story is probably what introduces you to the world, characters and everything else. Which is probably a bit weird to do for an mmo.

yoshi p has stated, while this is an MMO, its a final fantasy game first and foremost. expect tons of cutscenes, a lot of story and tons of characters. which most MMOs dont do like warcraft, they give you basic story beats you can completely ignore. which is why a lot of people shy away or complain endlessly about all the final fantasy that final fantasy xiv has. its back to the basics that MMOs began with. its all about the journey, not the destination.

I started playing on 2017, the game evolved in a way that Dungeon are just a beautiful passage between easy bosses, ARR still too slow to start and PvP its not fun. Any other thing surpasses every mmo I've ever played, the raids, the ultimates, music, art, design, the story (omg the story), the community (at least the EU community)... I first tried FFXIV with the keyboard and mouse, and I hated it. It wasn't until I tried it with a controller on PC did it start to feel more comfortable. The UI is not very mouse friendly because the workflow of common tasks has your mouse pointer darting across the entire screen several times. With a controller, it brings your focus automatically to the button you're most likely to want to press next.

Shadowbringers is a good expansion and you're gonna be loaded with things to do since most of the content dropped for the current patch cycle. I unfortunately burned myself out early in the expansions life and haven't returned though. :[

@@Onos getting to the endgame will take a while but in my opinion its worth it. I'll be honest here, FFXIV's endgame does have its issues, like any other game, but its really fun eapecially if you like really hard challenges to overcome.

I was playing it a couple of years ago. Buuuut, I got burned out in one of the expansions. It was a bunch of forgettable story quests that didn't give any XP. I wasn't invested and all I wanted was to get max level to play with my r/l friends. I got too burnt out and stopped playing.

Pls for the good of this game the start is slow to 50 only do msq quests and daily roulettes on ur first job join the balance discord to fine tune the way u play the game is easy with a controller or mouse and keyboard i mythic raided bfa with a controller so thats a non issue make it to heavensward u will feel ur job get better once u hit lvl30 get ur jobstone then in heavansword u get the true potential of ur job

I just started playing Final Fantasy again after 17 years of not playing it. I kept running into turn based final fantasy games for some reason, I don't like that. So I bought W. O. W. in 2008 played that shit non-stop until the summer of 2015 that's when my cpu crashed. Now I'm on my ps4 on server #Siren her name Harmon Bloodwell. Because I understand W. O. W. and FF...
