Arenas been there since day 1, so I didn't feel the need to adress it. But I'll pin your comment and give my answer here: Arena is a...weird thing. It's rewarding for good players, but to most average players its mediocre. The problem I have with it is just that there is an even heavier meta there aswell, partly because you don't know what your opponent has, and partly because the way Hearthstone is designed. There are thousands of videos from pro players getting a huge amount of wins, and all of them play and pick the most agressive stuff you can, instead of going for interesting cards (combos, counterplay, etc) As a small example, If there was a shaman, a hunter and a warrior to choose from, 90% of the people would choose the Hunter and pick charge or high damage with low cost cards. You just end up punching yourself without blocking until one dies, and that's not my thing. Also, if a game is just mildly unbalanced, and you add more luck to it, it becomes even less stable.

11:45 Existence of standard format also keeps powercreep in check. And sure, it's still around, but it's way harsher in the TCGs without the set rotation. Yu-Gi-Oh! is the best example of that.

It depends on the expansion, to be honest. You're right, They've turned down raw card strength a bit in the newer expansions, but it's undeniable that prior ones just led to the game being a mindless chaos. And newer expansions often implement cards that counter an overpowered meta. (e.g. more cards that remove secrets and ofc. many more) Never played yu-gi-oh, but I've heard that they had banned decks and cards at tournaments 🤔

wasted tow years of my life in this game till cobolds came out and the game started changing into some weird dimensions, but arenas have always been fun before! Never bought packs and had on average three playable decks, but it has been difficult to keep up with meta.

No. It’s not. I went back after a few years of not playing and the game is such a fucking mess now. All these horrible unfun modes that make no fucking sense, Cards with 3+ effects on it because that’s how you make cards, Just attach all sorts of random shit to it, Decks that are straight fucking bullshit. What a shame, This game and company used to be so good.

I just tried it for the first time. Unlocking the heroes was fun, but I came across the challenge mode with prebuild decks against the PC, and that last level WAS NOT FUN. It was a demon girl with a healing deck against an orc woman that summoned a sword, and kept buffing the sword until she could one hit everything I put out with no mana cost and without taking damage back. I needed a crazy RNG from the cards to beat this level, so I quit, I figured if this amount of BS is in Siingle Player, imagine what kind of broken shit people are doing in multiplayer? I just want to have fun with a card game... Every card game seems broken now.

Yeah, it used to have high requirements for no damn reason at all. I couldnt even find games from time to time cause the join cutscene (the slot machine thingy) prevented me from connecting :D

I feel like you haven't played many physical card games. Standard is common in nearly every card game to as you said in theory #1 to keep the game fresh so people don't just play all the old matchups to death and get bored and move on from the game. I definitely agree that Blizzard is really greedy with Hearthstone especially the solo adventures that should be free.

Quite the contrary, I love card games alot at partys and stuff ( lol ) Most card games that Include luck as a mechanic ( like Uno and stuff ), atleast give each player the same chance % wise, by allowing them to draw from the same deck. You'd obviously would win more Uno games if all your cards were +4 :P

@@Senron I mean trading card games like MTG, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, etc... all of which use a Standard system. Hearthstone is a trading card game overall so it makes sense that it would do the same. Not very many TCG's use different systems but for example Weiss Schwarz doesn't have a standard system instead they release sets by property(anime mainly but thier are some movie and game properties) and a deck can only be made from one set so no mixing and matching. I happen to disagree with you on one point but I still enjoyed your content. Thank you for taking the time to respond 👍😁👍

Hearthstone is getting worse and worse, its emberassing if u take the game seriously or play competetive it can be fun and creative but it is mostly a luck factor and There are not enough game modes. The design is to make u spend thousands and Still not have all the cards, what a hell hole of a design.

@@Senron I Dont mind DLC's or paying for quality. But they are making the game impossible for new or casual players. They should start to give the first card collections away or be Able to buy cards that u actually want or need. Have a game mode that Allows u to pick cards and Maybe have more in the deck. People play for years and dont have a single collection complete. Plus the new card packs dont let u win Them and u most of the time win doubles or things u dont need or want for a crappy ammount of dust.

It's sad the direction the game has taken. They saw the random aspect of discover and its ability to steal games, and instead of moving away from it like a rational developer would, they embraced it. Now even having even a 55% winrate with the best deck in the game is considered godlike. It's really sad, because while the hearthstone subreddit is not really super active, probably becausemany left the game and have nothing to say, there's still many people that like it and is waiting for some sort of change to this new direction, evident by the massive subscription count. Yet blizzard is continuously pushing them away and continue printing cards with random or discover, and making them even more beneficial.

Many games are like that sadly, and I definitely agree with you. Thats why I make these types of vids in the first place. I generally want to give long gone games a second try, to see if theyre worth playing, or just downright worsened. Sadly, I'm not content with HS state as of right now aswell, and I do wish to see more changes made, by players for players :)

True, but most of them only see play at a competitive level and Hearthstone doesn't. If I want to try out something fun I'm kind of forced into playing PvE or against friends, because atleast someone wont die in under 7 turns.

Building your own good deck is skill intensive though. Especially in BO3. Especially in Historic. the gameplay itself does require skill and experience but it is not something unreachable. LoR is actually more skill intensive when it comes to the gameplay :). with that said, even the dumbest MTGA decks are deeper than any deck in HS, except m.b. freeze mage back in a day. Due to design space in cards, sideboards and close to 0 randomness (except of you drawing or not drawing the cards you need at the moment. And even this is much less random than in HS or LoR as you can scry, fetch and what not) with that being said - "decks" like Nexus of fate or Wynota. There are plenty of decks in MTGA that build themsemves and require minimum skill to play, while being rather high win percentage. So MTGA isn't even nearly perfect or good. It is the best card game, I'd say, but it's not good - it's ok. And this is before talking monetization. Which is better than HS, but still - far from being good. I mean - how is it not enough to pay 50$ every 3 month to have most of the cards? In reality even if you pay 100, you still won't have all the cards. From which a lot of are just filler garbage. So - yeah
