Should You Play Scholar?? 1 Month Review BDO

Now that some of the buffs are in and the class is kinda settling in. I wanted to give an update of the current state of the class for anybody considering rolling onto or tagging Scholar. Currently she is in a tough place. Good in PvE and if that is all that you, that class should be fine. But if you like to Node War I cannot recommend using this class. Hopefully some buff down the line help her in that area.

In PvE going straight to numbers scholar really falls behind (750gs), however on a subjective level im having a lot of fun and im gonna keep her tagged hoping for some buffs in the future

Her biggest problem is how her Dual Hammer attacks have the same damage, and same speed and animation as the Sledge Hammer. Just feels overall clunky. Rarely ever can do Back Attacks which straight up removes 50% of all damage, negating what people believed were insanely high base % scaling. Has skills that have INSANE debuffs, if the skill is on cooldown for every single pack. It won't be. All of the skills have too much aireal micro-moment, and locked directional mobility. You ALWAYS over-jump the pack, and NEVER are aiming at them for the next skill in the combo. You're always frantically hoping the player model turned enough with your 180, to not have your next attack attack in a wild direction. Or, you straight up lose the damage waiting to make sure, that the enemy AI turns around and it doesn't matter.The new Enhancements, one should be the NORMAL, repeatable movement skill, instead of the clunky mess of Cooldown-Only she has now especially Q Q. Loved farming Monestary on her because every pack was perfectly-imperfect with her mobility and damage based movemet skills, but now I'm out of Serendia Elvia, PASS. Her skills basically all need Nova's Accel Shift+LMB. Where with skill, you can turn in place to land the attack where you activated it. Or where you want it to go. Her current setup is her E? is ALWAYS too little movement unless you're touching a mob. And most of her high damage attacks are ALWAYS too much movement, that you don't hit all the mobs and end up in a disadvantagous position. 8:20 (Ignore the Q+Q) basically explains it all. Large hammer? Teleport 10m. Swapping to small hammer? Move 2m. This should be swapped, and the effect of the ground slam should be 2 effects. Teleport far with two small ground slams with 2 hammers. Teleport little with one big slam. Everything is just backwards with the class. Inconsistent.

I feel like the overshooting issue is something that will come with time. Kinda like succ zerk after using the class for a while I can gauge that jump distance. Honestly I think the class is really smooth. Felt alot better in labs, everything made alot more sense there. I have no idea why they changed her speed like they did on release. Im pretty sure Awk nova is S+..+++ god tier in the mid game. Like she is betting everyone by a mile. Awk nova is one of the few classes i have never played tho.

@@Rocket-Gaming The problem with overshooting is that the way the character is made, it's impossible to solve. Too many REQUIRED buffs, on bad skills, are pre-requisites. But the movement on the buff skills are so bad that you can't use them without touching an enemy. So at some point, you waste half a rotation on a pack of mobs, or waste tons of damage because you don't have the buff/debuff. The character in so many ways just works opposite. Revolving doors of it working against itself IMO. Like forcing you to overthink a simple character with easy flows, just because one required skill counteracts the effects of another required skill. Like it's forcing you to count cards as you're playing the game, so you know when the timing (or distance) is going to screw you. And thinking how can I use this skill in this situation to do better, is a world apart from Scholar spending every second wondering how the skill you use will negatively effect you.

I was having a good time with her tagged to my tamer till we went to lower sycraia (roughly gear appropriate for me). That was pretty depressing.

Oh yea for sure I can see her being super underwhelming at lower sycria. Id recommened stars end towers or like elvia rhutums. places where she can be more stationary. Elvia Sernedia would be better income for sure.

She was fantastic at crypt. Didn't need any accuracy to grind efficiently. Not quite witch level there but getting pretty close.

Really!? I once I get my pen neck crypt is next. Did you run any accuracy accessories? No accuracy crystals at all? I know they recently nerf'd there evasion to be more accessible to other classes.

Was such a good lookin class….but they weren’t ready to release her yet still did. Legitimately released a bugged class; passive, addons, damage were bugged. Underwhelming pve damage and in PvP she’s impossible in any situation. Want to land a cc? Too bad your target already moved. Here’s to hoping the next class is great

I actually already started getting the Glabs footage. Atm its super underwhelming...somehow the class is slower now. So i gotta rerecord and remove all addons and what not to make sure its more accurate. I am also changing my recording method to make sure it isn't a variable frame rate recorder issue. It being slower is making no sense, and i am comparing it frame by frame not just casually saying..."it feels faster" The combo was taking another ~14 frames on labs. The speed "buff" might be soo marginal it isn't making a difference. But ill retest it.

Heeey!! Mustve been something wrong when I was doing the test originally. Which makes sense cuz the class felt faster on labs. The class is looking like a 10-15% speed increase this time around.

yeah its pretty unfortunate I really like her. I waited 6 years for a hammer class and she feels ok but the bugs and the lack of AOE/pvp damage just doesn't really feel right with her multipliers and how I remember the trailer and her G labs release. Her AOE's feel like they're only 60% of what they were suppose to be. when I saw the trailer, I was thinking ok cool " a hammer version of guardian but a little bit faster without the big heals so movement and outplaying/positioning opponents will be big to her." It just doesn't feel that want as on now, even with the rabam skills.

A hammer version of guardian with more speed would be great actually. Im on the same boat. I wanted a hammer class since launch, Im sure here in a few weeks she'll get some needed buffs, no way those AoE sizes stay that small. I got my hopes that her magnus skill is something decent and ranged. We'll see, as she is right now she isnt too far off from being a great class just really buggy right now, unfortunately.

Do i still feel the same about the class since then? No, I made an updated pvp reaction. Talking about the Feb 7 buffs. Much better now, PvE wise shes about the same. I know how to use the class better now so numbers are a bit up. But shes still about the same in PvE does better in some areas than others. Limited by AoEs. Good single target damage.

Actually, not true. I'll update the current state of the class soon. She is actually in a better state now. She received decent sustain changes that help her in lower tier NWs and can stay in the fight longer in higher tiers along with some bug changes. She is useable just not meta, and everyone wants to be OP soo, being normal isn't good enough for the majority of the BDO community apparently.

Good overview; and yes, I have been thinking about it for Season's. IMO, PA is shell shocked from Maegu release when the PVP community cried like babies about how no one could be that class in PVP. As a PVP community we are paying the price for that with Scholar. If we would have 'GOT GOOD' and learned how to kill Maegu, and moved on, SCHOLAR would have been release with more power and damage. RocketG be careful what you wish for; with the PVP community as FINIKY as it is in BDO, bringing Scholar to where she needs to be, will put her under the radar of the Cry Babies and they will start shouting the popular KZbin phrase, OP ... OP..... BROKEN.... BROKEN. Then complain to PA to Nurf the class. I am taking your advise to see what the next 60 days brings. It was about 90 days before Maegu was destroyed by NERFS, so.....

Succ Maegu was machine gunning people beyond caster range. She was really busted. Scholar is very undertunned, atm i think most of the community would agree she needs some buffs. Those speed buffs from Labs are pretty good. I would say she she be more vaible within a few weeks here. Lets see if she gets any buffs in labs this friday.
