😊 Hi Pavel! Welcome to the channel. I love doing this work and restoring these old items. They also remind me of my childhood and better times. I also wish I had more subscribers but it's a work in progress. I need KZbin to promote my videos more but if you subscribe and share it with others who might like this channel it would help. Thanks so much for watching. PS Sorry if my Bulgarian is bad! 😊

Hi Wally. I just always had this ion my blood. Since the age of six I never wanted anything new, I always took pleasure in fixing old stuff and making it new. My mom has no clue why. Mrs. RRG read the comment and you've gone and upset her that you noticed the electric fireplace over her! LOL Thanks again for watching I appreciate it!

@@RetroRepairGuy i wanted to comment about her honesty but i did not know how you would take it. You are a very very lucky man. Tell her the only reason i noticed the fireplace is because i rewinded the video back to when she was in the frame and had to zoom in. Tell Mrs. R.R.G that i noticed her in the video you have on your website sitting next to you.

I share the same sentiment. Agreed 100%. However, the network storages are not recommended. These often have serious vulnerability issues that let ransomware into your home network. If you intend to save any data that's worth saving, don't use old NAS!
@RetroRepairGuy
@RetroRepairGuy 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Yes normally that would be true but I did mention it quickly that I added a USB key for the new O/S. You see this NAS had an old version of Home Server installed on the first drive. It also has 256MB on board. You can install any O/S such as Windows 10 or FreeNAS. Also adding the VGA cable internally I was able to enter the bios settings and boot from wherever, including this USB key to take full advantage of the four drives. In fact it's only limitation was the O/S. Thanks for watching!

@@RetroRepairGuy Thanks for your reply. That sounds much assuring. I am very nervous about NAS because even though I had the OS updated my NAS got intruded from the internet and all the data was encrypted or damaged by ransomware. 10 year's photos and videos of my family along with some important data: totally gone. Well, luckily I was well prepared and had a second NAS which stores the complete backup; one that's not connected to the internet to ensure security so...wait..NOOOO! The second NAS was encrypted as well. The first NAS was probably used as a stepping stone to reach the second NAS. That is the only explanation I can think of. So never trust a NAS: that's my learning.

@@midimoog I can see how frustrating that is and can't imagine. Not just about losing stuff but the intrusion. But I probably will have it plugged locally to my computer, not as a "NAS" but as a RAID 5 external backup for the KZbin stuff and keep it off the network. PS go figure what triggered KZbin to put this answer of yours in SPAM? I wonder what words would trigger it.

If it's fixable, WHY NOT? A lot of old AV stuff is enjoying new life in the 2020's.

Hi there! Everything I own is old, even my house! 😂 I do enjoy making old stuff new again. My first car at sixteen was a 64 Chevy Belair and I spent my days restoring and spending every dime I made as a student on it. However some of the equipment thrown out is even in perfect working order and that part I find a little sad and never understood why not at least sell or donate it. Either way I went thrift shopping today and got my fix! 😁 Thanks for watching!

@@RetroRepairGuy Nice! I myself am starting with VCRs and Camcorders. I think if people understood the history and significance of some of this stuff they'd be more hesitant to send them to the curb.
