Some people have a zombie apocalypse in mind for their fantasy gunfight.

As a 27 (and going) LE veteran, I hate tac reloads!! Theyre slow to perform. In most civilian and LE shootings, its all over in a few seconds. If youre worried about not having enough ammo..... carry more mags! Aaaaand most importantly, and obviously ....is always carry at least 1 spare magazine!! Magazines are THE weakest link of what could fail.

But this one time in Hollywood…. 😂 great video Joey! Keep up the good work.

In all my training, mag retention was only a thing in long range shooting. Everything else, we dropped them during reload. If you win, you can pick them up, if you lose, who cares, and if you’re running away, it’s less to carry.

I think a lot of these arguments are simply not based on reality but are based on Walking Dead or John Wick fantasy land stuff. Watch the ASP channel if you think otherwise. whether or not you agree with John's commentary or training, the videos speak for themselves as far as how a real world civilian or LEO gunfight goes down 99.9% of the time. You can't really argue with hundreds of real videos of shootings.

No kidding. ASP has to be the largest collection of these incidents you can easily access. He definitely disproves a lot of myths and opinions.

Plus it builds a training scar. Mag out, mag in. If you have time pick it up!

There isn't one answer. Situation dictates tactics. See John Farnum's lecture in the main classroom. 😊

I don’t even know of any police shootings where an officer purposely retained a partially used mag and then used that partially used later in a gun fight.

I think Yeager said that the idea of retaining mags was because a military class was going on and when guys dropped the mags in the concrete floor, it was busting the tabs in the bottom of the mags. Over the years it is now a thing.

If you wear a dump pouch on your belt EDC... you're allowed to retain partial mags. lol

Guys in Katrina ran out of magazines quickly because they didn’t retain them and they floated away. Guys in Ukraine have said that magazines are their most valuable piece of kit because they’re harder to replace than ammo. Yeah, neither of those pertains to a civilian gunfight, but why train a certain way that forces you to retrain in different circumstances? Magazine retention is a grey area, not black or white. You shouldn’t always retain magazines. But you also shouldn’t never retain magazines. You should retain magazines when it is practical to do so.

Not saying all but some worried about retaining the magazine could also be worried about leaving DNA behind at the crime scene…
