If you have a 40 series, DO NOT UPGRADE for more fake frames. I don't recommend cranking up your fake frames just to get more frames. Latency goes way up, and it just doesn't look better and doesn't play better unless you have a 5060 and it can't handle high-end games. But if you have anything in the 40 or 50 series in 70-ti ,80, and 90, you shouldn't run fake frames. Just lower your settings some to get more real frames. And remember, kids, always turn your TAA down or off. ❤ new game devs are lazy and want games to be blurry. Taa= blurry

It depends on what your current card is. If you're rocking something from RTX 2000 or previously than it would make sense. If you have a 3000 series than it depends and if you have a RTX 40-anything then don't waste your money.

I just sold my 4080 for 85% what I paid. Was originally thinking would just get the 5080 but with it having only 16GB of VRAM I'm gonna see how the reviews pan out for MFG and then possibly get the 5070ti which also has 16GB for same price sold 4080 for. Not interested in the 5090 as price is just too high. I woulda got the 4090 had I known that you could fully recoup your cost down the line though. I'm not sure same will be true for 5090 with them having increased price by almost a third and the raster uplift not looking as being in same ballpark as 3090 to 4090. If the MFG software works as shown in cyberpunk by DF then Nvidia may even have shot themselves in the foot trying to sell their top tier cards.

My 3070 is still a low-mid range 1440P card. I think the 30 series is still very viable, even though DLSS is becoming more and more enticing to have good graphics settings even at medium while keeping above 60 fps for these brand new releases at 1440P. I have a backlog of games on steam anyway, so it'll be a while before I even touch a game like Silent Hill 2. Heck, 1440P native with locked 30 or 40 at max settings without RT does not sound bad on controller.

I got 4090 from a guy who after 5090 announcement feared 4090 prices will fall like flies when glorious 5090 is released. Price was fairly good at 1300 bucks for card with one year warrantly. I could perhaps negotiate better price but I didn't want to be offensive. In our country we have rather large tax so 5080 will be about this price and this GPU was what I predicted I will get. Then again people selling their 4090s is great opportunity to get even better GPU for cheaper and I predict I will be able to sell 4090 later before warranty runs out if 5080 is for whatever reason better or if Nvidia maybe releases 5080 Super or something. 5090 itself seems nice but for me 4090 was already amazing improvement coming from 6900XT

30% or more is a massive difference. Getting 100fps at 4k, you'd be getting at least 130 or more. Lowering the settings a little and you can get 4k 144hz on avg. But I'm getting 5k 144hz next and if I sell my 4090 I'll get the 5090.

@ 30 percent is not huge performance uplift with 25% price increase. It is not worth in my opinion. I usually like to get double or more to be worth since it’s a 2k before tax graphic card. Also I am happy with the performance with most of games. I rather wait for the 60 series. I like to wait every other gen since I get the most out of my money.

Depends, do you have a lot of money and don't care about parting with it? It's very telling when nvidia publishes only DLSS improvements and RT, rasterization improvements will be extremely modest, possibly single digit improvements. If you game on 1080 or 1440 then I would say you most definitely do not need to upgrade.

Still using a 1080 oc. It’s still viable for 1080 on mostly low settings for newer big/demanding titles, and even more so with fsr but that of course comes with its own caveats. Plan to get a 5080 or 5090 and rock that like my 1080 for the next 10ish years. In relative whatever I get will be more than a significant upgrade

People have to understand the pricing. The 4090 slots right in-between price wise with the 5090/5080. Performance wise without dls4 is in-between them as well. What makes the 5090 for me is the 32gb ram and a 512gb memory bus. With power unlocking....that card should be a monster for 400 bucks more. 2 years ago I bought a 7900xtx and skipped the 40 series...5090 here I come.

It's tough to ignore those multi frame generation numbers, but I think people should try to consider the baseline raster performance of the cards when considering an upgrade. For upper midrange like me, 5080 is a good card to consider, 5070 Ti also looking strong. I think for the next step down, that is where AMD's 9070 XT is trying to step in with price to performance. We have to wait for reviews to know exactly what the numbers are going to be. Thumbs up.

I have the 3080 Ti as well.. just played the new Indianna jones title @ high/Ultra settings with ray tracing on and it does great. Im hoping to get ahold of the 5080 @ or near MSRP but at least the 3080ti is roughly equivalent to the 4070 super minus frame gen. 3080 Ti is by no means dead.

Honestly I am really impressed with NVIDIA. The AI improvements are ultimately pro-consumer even if alot of people think every frame should be rendered natively. As time goes on, there's more and more hardware to optimize for and it becomes harder. The AI technology helps mitigate the difficulty of optimizing games. Also despite their market dominance they haven't jacked their prices up too too much. They definitely could have jacked them up more. Also people are kind of freaked out by the MSRP of the RTX 5090 but I view it more as a workstation class GPU then a gamer card. I say this even as someone locked in with RDNA 3. (I have an Alienware M18 R1 with a Ryzen 9 7945 HX + Radeon RX 7900M)

Seriously ? You need PCIe 5.0 to get the performance as advertised, meaning you need to have an expensive motherboard and DRAM ! Also when upscaling is nescessary to get where you want to go then you are getting ripped of very bad since not a single 5000 series card renders over 1080p natively. @ClassicalTechnology The prices of this generation may seem more palatable as a whole, but keep in mind the 5080 is almost exactly half of a 5090. The 4070ti was half of the RTX 4090 (and everyone complained when it was meant to be the 4080 12gb), and the 3070 was a little over half the size of a RTX 3090. Nvidia has finally pushed the naming scheme of the half size 70 class to the 80 class, which has been a work in progress for years now. That doesn't mean that it won't be a great GPU, just that Nvidia is keeping more of the technological performance increase as profit rather than passing that down to the customer.

Getting a new GPU, especially the 5080 and 5090, at the suggested retail prices is only going to happen during launch. Once they sell out (and yes, they will sell out, even at those prices) you won't find them again at that price thanks to scalpers and the like, not to mention potential tariff increases. My plan is to hold on to my current GPU till I can secure purchasing the new one. If I manage to snag what I want, then I can sell the card I have. And probably still get a good price for it, even used, as its a 4080 Super nVidia Founders Edition that I bought when it launched last Jan. If I'm not lucky enough to pick up a 5090 FE, I will still have that card, so not the end of the world. I missed out on the 4090 and I refuse to buy from scalpers, so I plan to get a 5090. Good luck to the rest of you with whatever you decide to do, and watch out for scams! If its too good to be true, it probably isn't.

I want to see the raw performance first, if its similar to the 40 series then no. If you do vr games you want raw performance if the vr game doesn't support dlss. The tensor cores are way bigger though, so they might be very fast ai GPUs. The raw performance might not be enough to upgrade to, because prices are still inflated, and not a real gen on gen performance uplift. Just more fake frames. Is dlss4 instantly compatible with games that have dlss3? Or does it needs implementation? Its going to be interesting what the reviewers will say. Nvidia has yet to pull a fast one on the 50 series, until we see what the raw performance is. You just know they don't want to give you a fast midrange GPU.

I have a Zotac 4070 OC Twin for my SFF rig. So I'll wait to see what the market offers as far as performance, size and power draw. But I also am VERY happy with my current AM4 ROG Strix X570-I with Ryzen 9 5950X... weigh up the cost/benefit of upgrade to AM5 with prob (at this stage) 7950X3D or see what the 9950X3D brings with power draw etc... but TBH my rig with the 4070 is totally fine... yeah... wait to see REAL benchmarks of all the gear is best I reckon - don't just buy because its new and there.

Not unless necessary. Have a 3090 and its no where near a big enough boost for the cost from my situation. Really a far less need to upgrade as often with consoles holding back majority of game's system requirements, etc.

Sure, we don't yet know performance, but we can do the math. Other than the 5090, in pure raster this looks like a lackluster GPU generation. The 5080, in particular, looks like it might barely get 10-20% uplift. Ray Tracing gains should fare better, though. MFG looks like a gimmick, and so really the main interest for me is DLSS4 upscaling, which should look better and hopefully run faster. But since that's going to trickle down to older generations, it's not a reason to upgrade to series 50.

LoL at this video. No actual benchmarks, no actual street price info (its never MSRP), no clue what the availability is like. But yes sell your GPU. Very skeptical about 50 series. It looks like vast majority of "gains" is displayed by showing you multi frame gen vs single frame gen of 40 series. How much better can these cards actually be? No new process node being used.

If you are down in a 20 series card? Then yeah go upgrade. The level of enjoyment will not really change, a games a game. Chasing frame rates that are indiscernible to the human eye makes no sense at all. An upgrade is an upgrade. It does not matter if you are going from an RX580 to a 6600 or from a 2080 to a 4070. You will still get the same satisfaction from the experience as you will chasing the latest and greatest every two years. Which is just stupid. @Dempig The 5070 has 3% more cuda cores on the same node size. The clock speed is 0.03Ghz higher... It's only meaningful upgrade is the AI tops and GDDR7. There is a reason they didn't show just raster performance...

2070 super here still playing in 1440p. Sure it's struggling now but with dlss and Nvidia Overclocking on there new app. I've not wanted a new card because they are just ridiculously expensive. I'll see what reviews say first about the 5070 TI and what price they will really be. If price and performance don't hold well, then it maybe and AMD card depending how they are of course. Not good times for PC.

Why would I do that when there are no new games or older ones that need the power? 3000/4000 series cards run at high frame rates already even with all the sparkly shit turned on? If II was a content creator sure but I'm just a gamer. Rather spend the coin on more storage or faster ram or even a fancier Mobo. Just my two cents.
