Should You Skate Nike SB DUNKS?

Are Nike SBs good for skating? Are dunks only for skating? I've been collecting and skating Nike SB Dunks for just under 15 years, and I hope I can help answer those questions!

Nike SB Dunks are one of the hardest shoes to get, let alone skate. I think they are good skate shoes, but there are a lot of other good options out there that cost way less. Are Nike SB Dunks good for skating?

Good idea in theory, but Nike actually makes more dunks a year than a lot of shoes, but the demand is just way higher than other shoes that are always stocked. If you’re just trying to skate a pair there are plenty of recent releases that are barely above retail

@@MrButteryHobo Um that is completely wrong in every way. I challenge you to find a pair of sb dunks thats slightly above retail. The lowest is 190 which is 90% higher than the retail. AFter fees thats about 210-230. Skating $200+ shoes is unrealistic and stupid. Talking about stock the average sb dunk has about 40000-60000 pairs compared to the hundreds of thousands of people that want them because of the hype at the moment. Ive gone for every single sb dunk in the last year on snkrs and every entered raffles online and in skate shops and never hit. The same thing happened to all my friends. Lets say youre talking about normal dunks. Average resell price for those is $150+ after fees thats about $180. $180 for shoes that'll be destroyed in 2-4 months is unrealistic. Assuming it takes 3 months for them to wear out thats $60 and month which is about $15 A WEEK for a pair of shoes. Not only this but theyre less durable than sbs and have worse padding so 3 months is probably more than theyre going to last. I have literally gone for every dunk drop sbs and not for the last year and hit once. Plus its not like I dont hit, I hit probably about once a month on snkrs most recently being the A Ma Maniere jordan 1s(these sell for 400 which is $100 mroe than the average dunk and have less stock making them even more rare but I still cant hit on dunks) but have only hit on dunks once showing the insane rarity. Finding dunks to skate for a reasonable price is almost impossible without insane luck. Try finding dunks for a reasonable price for skating I dare you

If u look hard enough u can find trustworthy people selling dunks without a middle man without fees too. I’m not saying any of this is optimal money spending, but most of skateboarding apparel isn’t either…

i use to skate these back in 04 05 06 back when these first came out they were the go to skate shoe i think they were around 65 for a pair crazy and silly how expensive they are now

I've skated some dunks that I bought for like $150 ( the Hennessey lows and the oski highs) but I'm just not a fan of bulky shoes or skating. I like the highs more forsure and would skate another pair if I could get them for like around $100 but I regret skating those Hennesseys. So many other shoes that skate as good or better for cheaper. Both pairs held up really well though.

I bought my first ever sb dunks in 2017, not knowing anything about sneakers, sports shoes or the heritage behind them. Just liked the way they looked and the fact that they were cheap. They are the most comfortable shoes that I have ever worn, so much so that I wanted to buy a second pair this week because the old ones are beat up. Then I saw the prices and couldn’t believe it… Even though I’m no skater, I really empathise with ya’ll, I can’t imagine having my heritage sabotaged by hypebeasts, and not being able to buy the imo BEST day-to-day shoe is brutal 😔

Dont view the shoes as a dollar sign and view them as a shoe. Skate em cause they skate great and dont feel bad about it, sell if you want if youre into that its a skate shoe,collectors shoe, resell shoe, at the end of the day ITS A SHOE. But dont feel bad skating them, theres plenty of ways to make money and dunks are sick asf

Sb’s when wear but not skate the part that wears out first is the inner heel then the grip goes. I usually move on to next pair when the heel rips.

skaters and botters are the only ones who can get dunks for retail. The catch is you have to be friends/family/or sponsored and then you can get the "hook up" at ur local sk8shop. too bad my local shut down in 2010 haha.

yeah you can do that but at the end of the day there is and for the foreseeable future will be a pretty large dollar sign behind them. I have a pretty big collection of dunks and I skate a decent amount of them but I also have pairs that I dont skate because some day I might need some extra cash and I can flip em and get a cool couple hundred in my hand fast. Also that argument could be said about any shoe but obviously some shoes have a way higher dollar sign then others which is why they are collected and sold.

I love skating dunks cause how they feel when I skate. I skated them since 2006. Due to all the hype the price went up and we'll had to change. Love vans too but I've had more foot injuries wearing vans than I did with dunks.

Yooo that foot injury shit literally goes the same way for all the skaters who started skating thin skate shoes when they started popping off which like around 2012 -2014.......back when everyone was skating bulky and semi-bulky shoes "ankle rolls" was a rare injury because thicker shoes kinda prevent them ....but once the thin skate shoes started popping off skaters were getting ankle rolls left and right back to back type shit ....ankle rolls became the common injury in skating... Even for myself...but after a few years i got to the point that i got tired of getting ankle rolls all the time i retired the thin skate shoes....and i started skating thicker shoes again...and i understand a lot of ppl don't wanna go back to thicker shoes because they take too long to break in....and that was the best thing about thin shoes was that they break hella fast in within a few hours or so....and thats also what i loved about thin skate shoes as well and why i stuck with them for like 3 years....but overtime i realize the ankle rolls werent worth the fast break in anymore....but its all good i aint tripping anynore i grown to have the break in patience for bulky shoes like we all did before thin skate shoes became a thing ....a lot of skaters forgot that we all accepted the break in patience of bulky skate shoes...but most of these skaters just don't have the drive to develop that patience .....

If they're not sb then you probably shouldn't, the sb's are almost a completely different shoe on a technical level that makes them a little better for skateboarding, but at the end of the day if you want shoes that will help you bring out your full potential when it comes to skateboarding anything Nike wouldn't be my first choice. But to be honest, you shouldn't listen to other people if they try to tell you what shoes to skate on and not skate, try them out yourself and if you like how they work, look, etc. then stick with that model. Great video, but I´ve to say a few things. The issue with Nike Sb is that the accumulators or their official collectors name are upset because the people who buy these shoes are skating them, so since many of them live from the re-sale of these, it doesn´t suit them, their business is damaged, So also the possers have raised their voices because they have the money to buy Nike Sb, but only to wear skateboarding things because they think they will look "cool" the truth is that everyone can do whatever they want with their shoes, skate them or keep them or sell them Likewise, Nike will continue to make millions of dollars, which is what they are interested in.

I got lucky on two pairs at my local skateshop (one was today :D) i skated both right after i left the shop for one session each and i'll leave it at that. They are really fun to skate but i rather keep them in my collection and wear them casually instead of destroying them.

These and the Pink pigs i was able to get from there, which is awesome because these two are actually my favourite colorways this year so far. Of course you wouldn't skate those dunks, they are "special" releases. But say on new dunks like the ACG Plum, Barcelona or Orange Lables - buckle em up and skate them

na its all the "non dunk heads" that all started wanting to buy dunks after they saw travis scott wear em, and saw the "famous" hypebeast youtuber's videos saying that Dunks are "Hot Now" Oh and those people don't skate. Then the botters swoop in to destroy every online release, and the shops start to backdoor to "loyal customers" and run fake raffles that cost money to enter when they only let their friends win pairs. I'm salty right now sorry this is a long message Also that Insta u showed is prlly flooded with crappy replicas, that dont skate anywhere as good as legit pairs.

Idk, I’m a skater, been skating since I was a kid and I don’t skate my dunks, I’m a fashion student in college and really like fashion and appreciate dunks for wearing and not just skating. Plus I’ve gotten lucky to cop a ton of dunks for retail and don’t see the point in trashing something I will never get again
