Should you spin that short fleece?

Hand cards are easy to use even with such short fibers. I'll have to film another episode with this wool and my hand cards. That will be such fun!

I have brushed short, 2nds and 3rds. You have yo put abit of long er fiber in the mic to help hold it together. Good for felting

@@Cat-qz9tu short fibers need more twist to hold them together. Yes, mixed with longer fibers would be easier to spin and would create more of a halo on the yarn

I have lots of fleece that's a bit shorter. What was the staple length on this?

I think it was about 1 - 1.5 inches. Very short and very inconsistent. Some bits were less than an inch

What are the light coloured parts in the fleece?

Those lighter brown bits are sunburnt tips. The wool naturally bleaches

I have a great Pyrenees dog who I have brushed and collected the softes fiber off of. Depending on the location though, it is between 1 and 3 inches. The three inches makes a beautiful and waterproof yarn, but thw short stuff doesn't do great with a drop spindle. It wants to make fine yarn. But I didn't card it so it is uneven unless I really manage it. If I card it all together it would probably be lovely! I'm thinking ear muffs for winter. Warmest fur you can get easy and heavy water resistance.

Many years ago I wanted to incorporate some dog hair into a hat, I found that by carding the dog hair with some fleece it made it much easier to handle.
