Malefic Roar was nerfed a couple of patches ago as Moonton probably felt that it was supposed to be a Late Game counter to Physical Defense, but somehow it was always bought early-mid. So has their nerf managed to work, or has Malefic Roar rose above the nerf?

according to my calculation 1. MR only better than 30 flat pen at defense, higher than 95 (assassins/fighter). 2. MR only better than 15 flat pen at defense, higher than 55 (fighters). 3. MR better at any point if no flat pen used (most marksmen). You can get a quadratic equation if trying to solve for percentage pen, defence (x) and flat pen (30,15) x(20% + x(0.125%))>30 [flat pen, u can change this value to whatever flat pen neede] which gives 125x^2 + 20,000x - 3000,000=0

Been recently looking out your channel to discuss about the new Malefic Roar, as the main counter core item built by Fighters to deal even gaining damage against early ones, the Percentage Penetration decrease is a nerf, and the Perc PEN/Phys Def does not benefit still. I gradually stopped buying this item and now continue prioritizing the squishy ones, it is only a useful item when two or more Fighters/Tanks had built more Physical Defense. Raw Damage and Physical attack are what I needed because we all know that we assigned to slay off *squishy* ones.

Aye, it's only when there's like 2 to 3 beefy front line that you'll want Malefic. Sometimes even the squishies start building PHY DEF too which increases Malefic's value

As a dmg Ruby main ive stopped using malefic roar soon after the malefic roar nerf. Now I just build blade of despair for dmg instead, works well with endless battle and the additional atk when enemy health is low.

I either go blood lust + endless battle then full defensive or entirely full defensive if the counterpart is dealing too much and damage and my tank is doing a good job as a frontliner and we already have enough damage from the dps. I always buy furry hamer and swap it for malefic as 6 slot. For the half price you gain higher pen than malefic until enemy have 60 armor. Since steel legplate nerf , squishy rarely build it in early game. Kinda how you use elegant gem as substitute for guardian sky helmet early game. For the cost of 400 gold you gain so much utility for the next 12~15 min

Malefic Roar for me is a plain item as intended. It does not have redeeming qualities against fellow PEN items Hunter Strike and Blade of Heptaseas, making you question yourself if MR is a good investment in the early and mid-game. That's why it's recommended as a late game item.

The new Malefic Roar should not be used as an early game item but sometimes my enemies do it and are still very strong. When I play Saber recently, I always think about this question: "Should I buy it as a 3rd item?" It's very strange. Sometimes I buy it, it's very strong, and sometimes I buy it, it's very weak. Even if my enemy builds a defense item, the result will still be the same. Similarly, the results of Divine Glaive are the same, but I never buy Divine Glaive as an early game item. I haven't tested Saber, so I can't be sure. EB and Malefic both sound like decent options for the 3rd item - you should jump on Practice mode when you have the time to confirm which one is better. IMO the fight will be between EB, BOD, and MR.

If not for this video, I would not have realized that Malefic Roar does not work so well with Dyrroth since it reduces Phy Def.. so I'm guessing heroes who reduce Phy Def does not work so well with Malefic Roar... like Saber's S1?

Dyrroth is kind of a special case since he has a very high % PEN on his S2 which means it's so strong even till the late game. For Saber, all his attacks can reduce PHY DEF, including his S1, but because it's a flat reduction and the scaling isn't that high, he can still use Malefic Roar pretty effectively against enemies who build high PHY DEF.

Hi! Well, it all depends when enemies build Physical Defense. In general, 3rd or 4th item for Granger is pretty safe time to get it IMO. But if enemies don't build defense, you can even delay it to as the 5th item.

I'd rather use Assassin's Emblem on Irithel/Zilong. Yes, you don't get as much movement speed as Support Emblem, but the base PHY PEN from the emblem stats helps alot with your early game damage.

Sea Halberd will be mainly for the anti-lifesteal effect, since I believe BOD will definitely out-damage it. I can't say for sure but I'm pretty confident. I'd rather have a combination of DomIce+BOD rather than Sea Halberd on Dyrroth tbh 🤔

As Yin player, i always buy malefic roar after fury hammer then blade of despair. But now, i think i will only include malefic roar if the enemy team has tanky heroes like terizla.

That's probably a good change. You should test it out in practice mode when you have the time if you want to fully optimize

@@himojohnson161 I see. I haven't tested Yin, so I don't know his best build tbh. Also, you might want to look at other Yin guides to compare builds, and also pick up some gameplay combos etc.

Malefic Roar was never meant for early game all along because it has percentage penetration so it goof when enemy build many physical defense item...

Hmm I've been building Malefic as 4 or 5th item all this after coming back from hiatus without knowing it got nerfed ot anything of the sort is BOD or Heptaseas a better choice? Or is it still viable to burst tankies all the same as before? Usually I never build BOD in last 6th item slot, I always take defense, semi-def(Rose Gold) or sometimes Antiheal Seahalberd 😅

First item Divine Glaive is a big nono for any Mage hero, whether multi-hit or not. Unless the entire enemy team is building a high amount of Magic Defense early (which is extremely rare), you should at least delay it until your 3rd item, and focus on building your core items first.

But I feel like dragon spear is useless yes the mvt speed but you sacrifice the damage and I may agree with the assassin emblem because it can gives 7 percent mvt speed

I haven't really researched on how good Dragon Spear is yet, so can't really say much about it. It seems like a decent item, though not sure how it compares to options like Windtalker etc.

I am not sure but malefic roar is better than windtalker and corrosion scythe for the trinity build dhs+gs+Mr and for the critical build Haas claws + berserkers fury + malefic roar but the problem is that you get 45 percent crit chance that means that the third basic attack will be critical

I tried it in practice mode and I found it worked malefic roar is better than windtalker I am not sure 100 percent you are the expert that is why I am waiting for an answer for you and for the itemsition I tried to use three core items and two real defensive items not rose gold meteor
