Should you switch from Mac to PC | Home Recording Studio

It's no mystery that mac computers are the industry standard for studios, but I made the switch to PC in my home recording studio, and I think you should consider it too!

The fact that this setup has touch screen made it much more unique than all the other setups on your channel. There a things that can be done more efficient with touch screen and things that are more efficient when using a mouse and keyboard. Having said that did you test out the touch screen? Just curious.

I know Mac, but generally a pc user. after weeks of research I came so close to purchasing a Mac Studio a few weeks ago. At the last minute I decided to have a new high spec pc built. So glad I did. Over the weekend I was running two video editors and pro tools all at once, while surfing KZbin tutorials for Davinci Resolve. Lots of audio and video tracks and plugins running and zero hiccups. Then played video games on it the next day. AND can still upgrade it later down the line. Glad I came to my senses and stuck with PC.

After many years of going back and forth (and starting out as a Mac guy in 1992), I finally bit the bullet and got rid of my Macs. Many of the same reasons you list here, but the ability to customize for what I need without spending nearly $4000. Elgato CamLink Pro was the final nail in the Mac coffin.

Couldn't agree more! There are a lot of pros for Macs, but they were not enough for me to buy another one over PC

@@TheDerekFrank My streaming setup in addition to the music and video work I need to do just made a Mac impractical. I bought and used the Mac Studio base, and a MacBook Pro and both would have worked, but there would have been several workarounds that would make the setup unreliable.

I seen your video with Andrew Masters. The fact that your setup had touch screen made your setup very unique compared to all the other setups on Andrew Masters channel. The fact that OS X still does not natively support touch screen is a real drag. That being said I would like to do a collaboration video with you.

i use studio one Im using Imac 27 in, 2011 and lately its become glitchy Ive been considering PC thats how i stumbled on to this video I own studio one 5 and I use the subscription version 6 I dont know how things got glitchy

This is an awesome video. Well done. I love the Mac screen and trackpad on laptops, but its not worth all the headaches the OS upgrades cause with music production. I have Waves plugins running on windows that I haven't paid to upgrade in years. With Mac you usually have no choice. How did you rack mount that PC though? That looks awesome.

PC user here, I want to have the ability to repair, update and own my computer because when you have a Mac, Apple in some way still owns that machine. Also have Studio One Pro v5, never fall in the Avid scam, they only knows something really good and is sucking money from users. And by the way, nothing this days are industry standard!

i have a gaming laptop and its terrible lol its my all in 1 (gaming , production , etc) and the fans spin loud , the keybed gets hot to the touch . i see most engineers who use windows have a desktop and wouldnt dare getting a windows laptop but some have a macbook pro on the side for portability

I switched from a using a Mac along with PC when they transitioned to intel. Everyone started to stop supporting the old chips with new updates, etc and Apple has a bad habit of abandoning standards they created. I am still Running a MOTU 828 MKII and a HD896. They are old I know but I cant justify right now replacing something that still works well without work arounds on PC. I thought about going Mac again but I'd have to buy new interfaces also and like you said have a system I cant upgrade or service. I have for years used Cakewalk and for the past few Studio One also.

You are 100% correct. Perfect example is Firewire. Apple invented it, everyone else adopted it and loved it then Apple drops it. They are notorious for this. I also use Studio One and love that as well!

I'm toying with the idea of going to pc from Mac. I use logic Pro, I play guitar and back up with software instruments and synths. What software would be easiest to transition to.

okay I am also a PC user but someone please tell me how I can zoom a particular area when in my Daw ( studio one) I see these instructors on you tube do it all the time. I checked with one guy and he said it was a mac thing? HELP !

I just built a new Windows 11 PC a couple of months ago. I can upgrade RAM, graphics card, storage (I have two NVMe SSDs and an HDD), or any other component. I am using my 20-year-old Epson photo scanner because the software and drivers from Windows 7 and 8 still work. I can, and, do, make my own repairs, if necessary. I could do a lot of this with Intel-based Macs (I even built a "Hackintosh" some years ago), but not with current Macs. Why would I want to buy such a closed system? Also, many organizations will repair old PCs, install the Linux, OS, and donate them to those in need. Could they afford or be able to repair a current Mac? Unlike some older Macs, it's not even an effective boat anchor! BTW, my old system, which I built nine years ago, is still running fine, but it wasn't worth upgrading.

I won’t even consider using a Mac/protools setup because I have a friend who also has a studio at his house and he just thought his setup was the end all to be all of recording studios until he updated his Mac 🖥️ and all of a sudden his new updates wouldn’t communicate with his interface and other (pricier things) to run his protools rig, things he shelled out his hard earned cash to buy and now they’re all useless what a waste of time and money but he thinks a Mac and pro tools is gonna make him the next doctor Dre and I tell him start saving now because the next update is in 2023 😊 there’s no fool like an old fool with protools. I’m not saying that a Mac isn’t built for what we do because it is but until he can create something far superior to anything I can do in my studio with a pc and studio one I’ll keep doing what I’m doing! It’s like a car with a 1500 horsepower engine big deal my car gets 32 miles to the gallon and I like that better

About to switch to PC. Apple hates the environment and consumers. They are masters at planned obsolescence and hate backwards compatibility. I was nervous when I got my first mac (which froze more than my PC, then the graphics died). Got my second Mac-loves it for a few years, and now one at a time software stopped working. If I upgrade the os, my daw will stop working. I have 10 year old PCs that work great. Done with Mac. Going to build and/or get a Dell I think.

I currently have a 2020 MacBook Pro i9 2TB 32 RAM running on Catalina and I’m terrified to upgrade my OS😂but maybe a handful of times I’ve had some CPU issues when I have too many plugins open. But I have pretty CPU hungry plugins like Kontakt, FabFilter, Omnisphere, etc. This is why I was thinking of switching back to PC for beats but using my Mac for engineering and recording vocals.. what do you think ?

I think PC is a great idea but will say a new M2 chip is pretty amazing. I still choose PC, but a mac mini is pretty affordable these days

I think you should get an M1, M2 or M3 Max MacBook Pro. I have an M3 Max with 64 gigs of ram...I can run hundreds of tracks with effects and Ive yet to hear the fan kick in. The difference in power going from my 2020 MacBook Pro and my M3 Max is truly insane, I also have Kontakt and Omnisphere also and the M3 has no issue whatsoever with them. I dont know what Daw you use but I run ProTools, Logic and Ableton and they've all been optimized to run on Apple Silicon. I'm not telling you not to get a PC if thats what you really want but I would get one based on Macs not being powerful enough when it comes to M series Macs.
